#1 The king is always loved, because his ministers exist to misinform, hide things, and otherwise catch the blame for anything going wrong. If the king ever becomes hated, then it's just a matter of time before the ox-cart starts making its way to the guillotine.

It was probably banned because of policy & ministerial answers, not over the personal popularity of the royals.
