#8 The pig fat thing is a historical reference to the Sepoy rebellion in India that was set off by rumors the British were greasing their rifle cartriges with pig's fat.

Pig's blood would just gunk up the bore, I'm guessing.

#10 I've long suspected the US military bullet industry has been taken over by a very elite group of profiteers, figuring that there will always be a demand, so they can set ridiculous prices. And, as long as they owned a couple of senators, they could probably get away with it.

#11 Actually, ammo for my AR-15 ~~Assault~~ coyote Rifle is relatively cheap. Ammo for the Whitworth or Maynard, on the other hand, is pretty expensive. The Maynard is about $3.50 a round, the Whitworth is about $2.00 per round, The AR-15 ~~Assault~~ coyote Rifle rifle is about $.025 per round. (2 1/2 cents)

#14 Shipman, I have a Whitworth Rifle. It's .451 calibre and fires a 470 grain bullet accuretly to a little over 1000 yards. I wish I had a Whitworth cannon. It fires a 12 pound projectile 10,000 yards.
