#4 This appears to be a case of stupidity, rather than anything criminal. The muzzies would have probably tried to build TATP, which is much more explosive than gunpowder. TATP is just slightly more stable than nitroglycerine, and equally as deadly. It also produces some fumes during production that are not good for people or other living things, including plants.

#7 I knew a student in high school in NY (c. 1969) who lost several fingers while building a bomb. A protest against the War. Heh.
