#2 The seminal moment in the history of the Ikhwan in the United States was the founding the Muslim Students Association (MSA) in January 1963. Established by students at the University of Illinois, and with the support of the Muslim World League, the MSA is the oldest of the American Islamist organizations dominated by the Musllim Brotherhood (Ikhwan al-Muslimun). The first MSA convention was also held in 1963, again at the University of Illinois. Seventy members attended. Then as now the "main goal" of the institution was "always dawaa.(Islamic outreach)" (See: "A Little Taste of History," Muslim Students Association, http://www.msa-national.org/about/history.html, no date.)
