#1 ...On the one hand, she would have been gorgeous, and she was already one of the most elegant warships afloat (only the USN's Lexington class CVs came close).

On the other hand, mechanically they may not have been able to do much for her no matter what, and the best case is that she would have ended up like blessed Warspite - worn out, partially decommissioned, and with just enough crew to get her underway, handle safely, and fire the guns.

And just thought of this - if she had been in the Med when the Luftwaffe started throwing around the first anti-ship missiles, she would have been in deadly peril.

#2 It looks cheesy now, but the "Battle of the Denmark Strait" scene in the 1960 movie Sink the Bismarck was incredibly dramatic, at least to my younger self: I didn't know the Hood was going to sink. I was shocked.
