#1 Spain, the drinks are dirt-cheap and the bartender will pour the gin up to the rim unless you say "stop."

Clearly this is related to the Shipman/Fischer Rum Paradox, which observes that the bars with the cheapest drink prices also pour the strongest. AB is there a hidden logic at work?

#2 They keep the prices down by getting the foreigners totally sloshed and then grabbing their wallets when they stumble out the door. They almost certainly realize a net profit this way.

#3 In the Caribbean water and "punch" (anything with rum) are free at events. Soda and beer cost money.

#4 My maternal grandfather emigrated (legally) from Norway to Nevada, became a sheepherder and rancher near Carson City. Even as rough as that life was, it was a blessing compared to the "homeland" in terms of lifestyle and opportunities.
