Interesting. I argued for language like this, except stronger (and placed up towards the front of releases, or included in spoken statements in such a way that quotes would be likely to include them) with members of the former public affairs crew at MNF-I. I guess a slug at the end of a press release is better than nothing - though not much, as the media tends to barely use these releases as it is. One depressing certainty out of Iraq is that there is no level of barbarity or brutality - by the enemies of civilization, anyway - that will draw the attention of the media, so long as the US is the other side. Think about it - it's the lack of outrage, the lack of indignation, the lack of accurate and therefore provocative coverage of enemy activity that is a large part of the effed up framework in which the media and so many Americans understand this conflict.
