#2 I'm not sure why the Iraqi foreign minister is making a fuss now, when American troops with Iraqi Army and Police are actually making inroads into the problems in Shiite Iraq. Let the British troops go to Afghanistan, where they are permitted by the Home Office to do some good.

#3 I've noticed this as a reoccurring theme. We leave an area alone for a while, the villains come out to play in the open, they also migrate there from other areas, then we swoop down and nail them.

I would not be surprised if SOCOM is gathering all sorts of intelligence on militias, AIF and criminal gangs in Basra right now. Lots of surreptitious photos and DNA samples, finding out who in the government and police are rotten, locating safe houses and foreign activities.

#4 I sure hope that is the case because Basra is a critical economic link for Iraq. There is a huge amount of work that needs to be done there. There should be about zero unemployment because of all the port reconstruction, waterway clearing that needs to be done.
