#3 Mexico is not like the states, money still talks there. $20,000 would prolly get you the necessary "clerical error" needed to be released. Chump change to a good smuggler, but big money to a prison official who makes $20 a day.

#4 Could have been a bribe or somebody could have told the judge he was a dead man if he didn't let the suspect walk.
