#7 Understood - but keep in mind that the Germans did all they could to PREVENT assimilation for decades while still encouraging 'guest workers' to arrive there and contribute to low wages in industry.

#8 §7 - Yes and no : I know some quite successful Turkish people here - First generation, came here with no money and little education -- 40 years later, they are well off plus their children have university education etc . But this is in the countryside, in cities like Berlin they seem to be stuck in their Islamic parallel world, financed mainly by the German welfare state. Why should the Germans tolerate this ?!
.. and there is still the question : WHY do most immigrants from other parts of the world so much better ??

#10 All those countries joined the EU and were part of its predecessor. Makes a difference, I suspect, although one can argue cause vs effect.
