#3 Presumably they were in the middle of a firefight, and instead of just tucking their head down and waiting for it to be over, they felt the need to go traipsing through the tulips. Maybe they were out of food, maybe somebody was sick, but more likely this is whole cloth invention by the human rights bastards. Take a couple victims of the general fighting, find some typical Gazan Arabs to do a song-and-dance about how they actually died, and voila! Instant My Lai.
