#1 Why is he in Federal court? Isn't shooting people illegal in Arizona?

#2 He killed a Federal Judge. And attempted to kill a member of Congress.

This pretty much automatically kicks it up to the Feds the way I understand it.

(I am not an at tourney)

#3 Of course, in the unlikely event that he actually beats the Federal raps, he is still up for the state charges of four counts of murder and many of attempted murder.

Just for the record, if I lived in Tucson, I would be happy to volunteer for jury duty, although it is unlikely I would survive the voir dire with my attitude.

#4 He killed a nine year old girl and some other regular folks. Drive him down to the state court in Tombstone and put him away.

Let the Feds fart around with their stupid crap after he is properly jugged. Is there only justice for important federal type people?

FIFY - no charge.

And no ding on the Congresswoman herself - but Congress and the Robed Princes of the Land (judges) do act like a Ruling Class.

#6 CF, I have already written my congress critter urging him not to support the various panicked bills that have been introduced to "protect" members of Congress. One would prevent anyone from saying anything that could be construed as a threat against a member of congress (Like for example, saying I'm not going to vote for him). The other law would establish a 1000 foot weapons-free zone around members of congress. I'm sure that would have deterred Loughner - surely he would have said "I'm planning on gunning down a bunch of people today. That could bring me the death penalty. But wait! I can't bring my gun within 1000 feet of Ms Giffords! Darn, guess I'll have to do something else."
