#1 Close the school. Black ticket the staff.

#2 I suppose they may have been thinking that if they allowed a US military uniform, they'd be sued to Hell and back if they didn't allow a fake suicide vest. And even more if they checked to see if it really was fake.

#3 I hope someone takes up the case of this Marine and he sues those who prevented him from participating in the commencement in his dress blues. Make the decision makers personally pay out of their pockets--not the taxpayers.

#4 Principal Chip Pettit defended the decision and alleged it was not meant to disrespect the military, or Stanley, or veterans, or the school community.

“This tradition is not intended to be disrespectful to students, parents, or our community, but as a source of pride for our students,” Pettit told NBC Chicago. “It is also not intended to be disrespectful to our students choosing to serve in the military, our active duty servicemen and women, and our veterans.”

Liar! That is exactly what it was intended to do.

#5 It is a high school graduation, not boot camp graduation. Wear the cap and gown like everyone else. Wear your USMC uniform when you report to your first duty station. The world doesn't revolve around what a PFC feels he/she is entitled to wear. I want to put my 1stSgt chevrons back on and have a brief counseling session with this Marine.

#6 The kid is probably proud of his service in the USMC.

#7 Say VS, when I graduated at my university, we wore our uniforms under our cap and gown. Then in the graduation ritual, they had us take off the cap and gown, and perform the oath of office amongst the those assembled. Technically, we had the 'official' oath taking and paper signing the night before, but the public display was and had been a part of it all. Then we all departed, with a designated exit where the First Shirt stood to give each of us our first salute with a silver dollar tendered.

#8 I highly doubt Hemingway could fit into his uniform in any case.
