#4 Ref #1: ...or a valid up to date passport...geeezzz.

Proof of citizenship needed for a passport. Quite obviously passports are racist.

#5 Actually, passports may be obtainable for the 1 million+ illegals who've stolen Social Security #s from citizens. Just depends on how well maintained are State's databases for those who've suffered identity theft. I wouldn't assume they're well maintained and completely accurate in this area.

#6 Depends on whose passport you're referring to.

Memory hole link for passport office fiasco.

#7 The mess that will create at airport will be ruinous as most people won't be prepared and will freak when turned away. This will cause the Feds to push back the date of compliance giving everyone another month or two to get their ID.

Also a compliance date of OCT is as stupid as you can get as you'll cause a fuss throughout the holidays. A compliance date of Feb/March on the other hand allows you to bombard the holiday travelers with last chance notes.

#8 The Real ID deadline has never been a secret. The states that said "it would cost too much" were told that wasn't an excuse. There have been deadline extensions already. Those of us with Real ID say "Your lack of planning does not constitute a crisis on our part."

#9 Got my REAL ID in September. I had the proper documents and it only took me slightly longer than usual DL. Having a passport helps

#10 M. Murcek you may be factually right, but I'm betting the americans that don't pay attention to anything causing major hassles by showing up without the correct ID.

#11 I'm not saying it's the fault of individuals necessarily. It most certainly is the fault of every state that resisted implementing Real ID on a timely basis. Yes, it's going to cause problems at the airport just like the people who bring their stuff to the post office and think packing supplies are free at the counter. I see it all the time. Such people really don't deserve anyone's sympathy. The disruption can be minimized by not letting people without Real ID inside the terminal to begin with. Harsh if it derails someone's holiday? Afraid so.

#12 Shouldn't airlines have asked for RealID or equivalent when booking?

#13 Does anybody know if a federally issued military ID could be used instead of a Real ID compliant driver's license?

I'm retired from the Navy, and I always carry my id.

#14 Look it up on your state DMV site. I think the only acceptable alternative is a pasport
