#2 From 1989 to 1993's I was a back up Sr. Electronic Tech (Electronic Assoc.- civilian) for the KC-10 Flight Simulator at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Bumped into many a Pilot and BOT/Boom operator. All had Nightmare stories of some sort or another.

Given what they do and in the extreme conditions they sometimes must refuel in... It is amazing this does not happen several times a year.

The best accident video I saw during that period, was of a A4? - KC10 refueling near ICELAND where the hose kinked, A4 pilot backed off too much, lost the connection and the Boom operator dumped and several 100 pounds of fuel into the Jet Intake. Big Engine Puff and the A4 steep right bank as the Jet lost power and control.

#3 Video is 95% talk 3-5 of a object hiting the ground a fireball.

Some recorded comm traffic audio of the mission.
A lot of SME discussion and viewer Technical education.

#4 Looking at the damaged KC-130J, my guess is that where 2 F-35s involved. Only speculation on my part and assuming visible not from emergency landing:

On the right side, an F-35 overshot (either during or before refueling contact) and collided w/ the props. That F-35 when down.

On the left side, an F-35 was already taking fuel and when the collision on the other side happened, he broke off very hard to the left and caused the front of the refueling pod to twist right and into the outboard props. That ripped the refueling pod from the wind mounts and explains why the fuel flow is still on.

The KC-130J was flying on one engine and 3 egg beaters. Could have easily been 3 aircraft down.
