#2 The folks who carried out the Metcalf attack knew exactly what and where to aim their shots.

Plus they knocked out the fiber link to this station prior so the grid monitors never knew what was happening until well after the fact. They just thought that they had a downed comm link.

#3 ITSEC knew the NE/NW Grid was hack-able 20 years ago.

Physically it has been known for 60+ years.

One "Hey Bubba Watch This" stunt that was accidentally stopped some years ago would downed
Medium size Ga. City for few hours.

It was Stupid Simple Bubba Low Tech and cost the pair... if I remember right about 5 years each.

#4 Single point of failure analysis by trained analysts often eith looks too hard for complex threat risks or fails to see the third order fialure points.
Years ago i me mentioned here the SF story about an A Team Sf op with the USAF. The Red Team was a single Green Beret A Team who were challenged to demonstrate how to nullify an entire USAF B-52 wing. Over the weekend the base had heightened security around the aircraft and ordnance sites. The fuel farm was off limits as I recall. Monday came and the Wing Commander met with tue A Team and proudly proclaimed that his unit was fully mission capable for a strike anywhere in the world. The SF unit commander merely held up an oxygen mask dusfer with talcum power to represent a lethal contaminant and explaied that they had penetrated the Aircrew Life Support lockers and maintenance facilities thereby making OCONUS flights above 10000 feet impossible.
Single point of failure and low tech threat.
