#1 in the US, severe allergic reactions to the vaccine have been quite uncommon, no more than one in 500 I think I heard

not sure what the rate is in Europe or how they define an allergic reaction

#2 Does this fit leftist US politicians' continual maundering that the US should be "more like Europe?"

#3 Well to be honest, for younger people, there's a low, short term and quantifiable risk from COVID and an unquantifiable long term risk from the vaccine.

You don't exactly have to be good at maths to work out this is one to skip if you're under 55.

#4 Severe allergic reactions are handled immediately with an Epi pen, right?

#5 EU should've imitated (mutatis mutandis) USA: Muslims get it first, then everybody else.

#6 ^ Agreed. Muslims get it first. Only the richer ones though.

"No, sir. You first. I insist."

#7 The article did not say what the severe allergic reaction was.

#10 1. About 1 in 100,000 to 1 in 1,000,000 vaccinations of all kinds (flu, tetanus, hepatitis) result in a immediate severe anaphylactic shock. That is why you should wait a few minutes before leaving the vaccination room. Usually it is because the person vaccinated has a pre existing allergy (e.g., to eggs).

2. About 1 in 20 to 1 in 10,000 vaccinations of all kind result in a mild delayed reaction of various kinds (low fever, weakness, hives). These go away by themselves.

3. In the phase III trials that Pfizer and Moderna conducted, people with known severe allergies were, I think, not enrolled in the trials.

4. There is a large grey area between people with known severe allergies and people who are becoming allergic or have underlying allergies that haven't manifested yet or haven't manifested in many years. It's one of the unfortunate gaps in knowledge.
