#1 ...The cost of refitting Nimitz one last time wasn't quite so much the issue as the amount of time and resources it would have taken to only get, for all intents and purposes, one more deployment out of her. The USN doesn't have anywhere near the yard space or resources to throw her in a drydock for at least 18 months, when they can't find space and materials for other, newer ships. They got burned badly on this idea with Enterprise (CVN65) and had the good sense not to do it again.
