#1 Just in case you're wondering just wtf is being searched for, because the article won't say...

These are essentially police operations. Small time criminals, drug peddlers, thugs and loud mouths, rapists and 'naughty men'. As we all know, moslems are way more efficient at doing to moslems exactly what they deserve. And they shall. The talibs are trying to establish an administration that looks legit.

Of course, if they can find subversives, shiites, Christians, that sort of thing the Taliban police will just make up charges and take them too.

#4 Those are far out of their reach, at least the ones who are still active. The good ones who took sides with Massoud and Saleh before the two departed at a goodly pace have become the new resistance. Some of the NRF is still active in Panjshir, in Faryab, in Baghlan. Guerillas. Everyone else mostly made peace with the Taliban even before they'd won. Hell, that's probably the reason they won. Most ex-alliance, ANDSF, they all stand proudly saluting the turbans nowadays. And Taliban made good on promises to some who were influential enough. They're learning politics as they go.

Subversives and spies, yes, there may be many. Aybak though, is a city. Peaceful, what passes for a metropolis in this hellhole, some 80 klicks south east of Mazhar e Sharif. If there are NRF guys and gals here, or some kind of cells left by Massoud still hunkering down in residentials, they're stupid.
