#2 US troops, about 500 to 1000 are there to hunt ISIS and may also provide some protection to the Kurds.

Syria probaby doesn't have the forces to deal with the ISIS contingent in their country. Letting Iran and Turkish troops deal with ISIS doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

#3 Syria doesn’t have enough oil to be worth robbing, unlike Iraq, where we also did not help ourselves to the oil.

Perhaps President Putin means Turkey, which has been allowing its “Syrian National Army” run roughshod over Syrian citizens.

#4 Letting Iran and Turkish troops deal with ISIS doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Iran would no doubt take the hint reasonably seriously if t hey saw no way of exploiting them for their own purposes, but Turkey has used and supported ISIS in Syria in the past against the Assad government. For that matter, some unknown part of the so-called Syrian National Army that Turkey employs along the border is made up of old ISIS turbans left homeless after the Caliphate fell, and Turkey knows it.
