#4 And yet, they allowed him hours before booking to let the BAC drop to minimal levels. The card worked exactly as anticipated, all the kerfluffle is window dressing.. I guarantee the CHP Officer who arrived on scene and was briefed quietly by the Napa SO officer who was first on-scene and who bailed as soon as he knew who was involved. There was undoubtedly a personal cell call to the Watch Commander and then on to the Commissioner who was careful in the way he explained what he wanted done. Chippies are fine guys but no one wants to commit career suicide by enraging the vindictive witch who happens to be the Speaker of the House.

#7 Maybe the court should have thrown some hard time his way rather than probation. They probably felt sorry for him as he already had a life sentence of hard time with Nan. Now, that is cruel and unusual punishment.

#9 When I consulted with various local governments in CA, it was common for LEO's to give out "courtesy cards". They had to be used with a particular formula (or incantation) when you handed the card over, something like "Please extend whatever courtesy is appropriate under the circumstances". The card was only good for one shot; it was always taken whether or not any courtesy was extended.
