JI was for years directly funded by Osama Bin Laden's brother-in-law, an Al-Qaeda moneyman. It was very active in Indonesia until the money spigot was closed. Then JI in Indonesia metamorphosed: They became 'religious moderates.' Nevertheless, to this day the JI continues to fight on in the southern Philippines.
