#4 And that is the only real major threat they have beaten. Everyone else just let them collapse on their own by out spending them. It is the only great Russian military achievement in modern times. Therefore they worship it.

#5 To be fair, DarthVader, it was the only one that was existential. America in 1990 would not have erased the population and all its works to replace them with our own — as the Nazis intended to do with all the Slavs, from Poland east to the Pacific.

#6 Currently TW, Russia sees this as an existential conflict. They need to control the chokepoints that the Soviet Union had as their population is collapsing and this is the last time they can do it. In the future there will not be enough Russians to do it.

They just didn't count on the Ukrainians fighting as hard as they have and Europe being as united as it has with the US to support them. Russia won't stop. Even if Putin is removed. The inner circle supports the war too. If a revolution removes the inner circle, then, maybe peace can be found.

But don't hold your breath.

Shocked the hell out of me, I have know people that trained them after 2014 and knew they were improving. Still see some really basic tactics used for taking trenches instead of NATO infantry doctrine, but it gets the job done. One thing that Ukraine does not have in short supply is bravery.
