#1 3M seems like another American icon that is on the downhill slide.

But correct me if I am wrong--I don't recall hearing many complaints about ear plugs in WWII, Korea, Vietnam....Oh, maybe I know why, the soldiers were too busy with their knee problems after running/doing PT in their boots their whole career.

#2 ...I discovered early on that wearing the little yellow earplugs was for some reason physically uncomfortable enough that I requested - and got - a medical review. End result was that I had it in writing that I was authorized 'Mickey Mouse Ears' hearing protection, and I used those.

Those complaints were filed with the VA. A lot of WW2 Army Air Corps personnel suffered hearing lost related to both flight and ground support around those bombers.

#5 My father developed hearing issues in WW2. He thought it had to do with his duty station being underneath the anti-AC guns on the destroyer.

#6 I guess I worded my sarcasm poorly. Surely the VA got plenty of claims, but the fact that there were no earplugs is a sign of the times, I suppose.
