#1 gday fred
you're right there's no shortage of bossy boots
i haven't drunk alcohol for 20 years and i feel good
if i drink it, i feel bad
so it's simple. no alcohol, no coca cola either. just drink the water or tea. or water with bubbles. the soda stream is great.
i like extra carbon

#3 Gave it up last year and the results don't lie - but that only applies to me. Besides, I will want to be truly sober for possibly lies ahead.

#4 German-Irish expert here.

"regular alcohol consumption could lead to insomnia symptoms."

Per se. Insomnia because you have an unfinished twelve pack to drink, or insomnia b/c you havent found your buzz yet.

"sober for what possibly lies ahead"

Me too. Decided to be sober for the Rapture. Felt I was getting too complacent with how shitty the world was trending.

#5 I drink a beer for lunch every day. Am 69 years old, healthy as a horse, and stayed the same weight for 30 years.

I don't eat breakfast or lunch, but have a light dinner of anything I like. Cheers!

#6 I've been clean and sober for eight years and am, at least for now, and extremely heathly middle-aged man. And because I embraced sobriety, I still have a wife and a family. So it also worked for me.

But I don't *enjoy* it! So if you don't have a problem like I do, by all means enjoy a few drinks each day. It's good for you in limited doses.

#7 The sleep thing is real. Use a sleep monitor and see for yourself. Passing out is not a replacement for sleep quality.

That said, I do enjoy an occasional drink, even though I know it will impact my sleep quality. All about balance.

#8 #6 Spot on! I do still love me a good pub and that will never change - I just drink diff stuff now and get to enjoy married life and good health whilst doing so. It seemed like a good idea at the time and still is.

#9 Some are more sensitive to alcohol (and other substances), while some are less. I admire those able to turn their back on an addiction, but for the generality of mankind there are health benefits as well as detriments to a regular glass of alcohol. The fisked article deserves every drop of Fred’s scorn, and more.

#10 Two of my family were "only stop when you are plastered" binge drinkers. I decided early on that I didn't want to see if I inherited that trait... So it is a personal choice.
