#3 I remember being depressed when they clamped down on the Canadian protests. I thought was over. Now governments are toppling.

#5 To be fair, it IS about subsidies.

The German Farmers' Association spoke of unacceptable "tax increases". However, it is correct that these are tax concessions that are to be abolished. In the case of diesel, which is already tax-privileged compared to petrol, farmers have so far been exempt from around half of the tax rate. They are also exempt from motor vehicle tax.
In Lower Saxony, for example, where farms are significantly larger than in the south of the republic but smaller than in eastern Germany, the average main farm spends around 21,000 euros a year on fuel, according to the state government. According to the information, the loss of the tax exemption amounts to around 3,000 to 3,500 euros.

#7 Farmers often pay less fuel tax because most of it is not used on roadways.
