#2 To be fair, the plan for the previous Ukrainian offensive - driving south and cutting Crimea - was strategically sound. The only flies in that ointment were the fact that the Ukrainians lacked the necessary combat power and would face the same problems that plagued the Russians, namely that they would be assaulting over open ground into prepared and well-developed enemy positions while faced with massive artillery fire. Other than that, it was a great idea.
