~~Right~~Wronghaven update:
A lawyer for copyright troll Righthaven is declaring under penalty of perjury that an update to his computer's browser prohibited him from electronically submitting a legal filing before an angry judge's deadline.
Pathetic. Read the rest for the whole whinefest. Comments not exactly on his side. ;-p

You do whatever you have to to get that filing in on time. I think the electronic filing system even lets you file up to midnight of the deadline day (rather than the 5 p.m. or so for paper filing).

I think the article said the law firm was filing amendments to their original suits where they stated they owned the copyrights. You're allowed to file amended pleadings (with the judge's leave), but that's to add stuff (or even take stuff out, I suppose). I doubt that absolves you from LYING in the first place.

#4 I wonder if Righthaven's set up as a virtual legal-house, where all the attorneys outside of the top 1-2 are 'partners'. Essentially they're independent contractors, no in-house IT service, etc.

Means RH can run lean and mean and hungry, as any lawsuit mill should. But it also means there's no back-up should one of its components fail.
