Smolyaninov's case: how to punish a traitor
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

[RIA] Actor Artur Smolyaninov is on everyone's lips - the star of the 9th Company and Elok. Although he left for Latvia last spring and no longer acts in Russian films, he managed to attract everyone's attention to himself with a few phrases in a video interview. Declaring that "if I went to this war, it would be on the side of Ukraine," because "for me it is on the side of my brothers, who were attacked by my other brothers," he added that he did not care about the fate of Russia at all :

“To be honest, I don’t give a damn what form Russia will remain in. It will fall apart, it will not fall apart. It will turn into the Ural Republic, the Pelmensky Republic or the Khakass Republic. Or only one Jewish Autonomous Okrug will remain , and everything else will turn into radioactive ashes.”

This is not the first time Smolyaninov has said this - he has already said that he feels "nothing but hatred" for those who fight against Ukraine with weapons in their hands, and when in October he was fined 30 thousand rubles under the article on discrediting the Russian army, the actor replied that for him "there are no laws of this state: they, like the state itself, are criminal in their essence."

That is, the views of Smolyaninov have long been well known, but this time they caused a very sharp reaction in Russia. Why? Maybe because he said that if he had been at the front, he would have shot at his colleague Soslan Fidarov, who fought as part of a detachment of Ossetian volunteers?

But although Smolyaninov believed that his colleague, most likely, had already died, he turned out to be alive and even answered the emigrant:
"About the fact that you shoot me on the battlefield - we both understand that you will never do this just because you will never be on the battlefield. I send you greetings from Alexei, from Nikita, from Magomed, from Alan and from all those guys who won't come home anymore."

Or because, arguing that his brothers were on both sides, Smolyaninov immediately said that he didn’t care if Russia collapsed or even was destroyed? After all, this is too much even for a person who has already called his state criminal. But still, the reason for the sharp reaction to the words of an ordinary actor is not this, but that we have already heard too much hatred from the lips of fellow citizens who left the country, famous and ordinary.

Therefore, the question arises: is it necessary to somehow respond to this stream of curses? And what about those who not only speak, but also do: for example, organize subversive work against Russia, ranging from informational to outright terrorist?

Responding to Smolyaninov, one of the State Duma deputies called him a traitor and turned to the Investigative Committee with a request to initiate a criminal case, another deputy suggested "to deprive the citizens recognized by the court of the preferences provided by the Russian passport," that is, not to deprive them of citizenship, but to cancel their passports. Another deputy said that we need to think about the possibility of deprivation of citizenship (that is, amendments to the Constitution), but for now, come up with a set of restrictive measures, for example, ban entry to Russia "for 20 years and strike them with their rights for the same period."

Dmitry Medvedev went the furthest - mentioning that "the discussion has resumed about how to deal with traitors who have defected to the enemy and want their fatherland to perish," he wrote that they must be dealt with "according to the special rules of wartime":

"In times of war, there were always such special rules. And quiet groups of impeccably inconspicuous people who effectively execute them."

Of course, this is not about Smolyaninov, but about those who not only speak, but also work for the enemy, telling him where and how best to hit Russia, how to defeat it from the inside and ruin it. A typical example of such a traitor is the former State Duma deputy Ponomarev. But there are not so many such frankly open enemies - the vast majority of those who have fled and left are simply silent, and among those who curse their homeland, the majority is limited to words, without turning to deeds.

But it is they who cause the greatest resonance in our country - actors, singers and other "stars". Just because they are widely known, people are outraged by the fact that "how can he say such a thing!".

Moreover, nothing else could be expected from very many of those who cursed Russia - the fact that at a difficult moment they would leave their homeland was, alas, predetermined. After all, they were part of the very "elite" that was formed in our country not just in isolation from the people, but in opposition to them. No, publicly they were simply against the authorities (Putin, Chekists, corrupt officials), but in reality they were not satisfied with the people themselves. And in the hour of trials, they easily moved from cursing the authorities to statements about the "criminal state" and "stupid people", and the most advanced of them - about the "cursed language".

Nothing surprising - in our history it has already happened when those who left and fled cursed the fatherland and those who remained there. But at the same time, they always shook "his ashes from their feet" - when voluntarily, and when they were forced. However, in our era of globalization of everything and everything, a new, previously almost impossible situation has developed - you can curse the country and earn money in it or its citizens.

Previously, it was impossible to imagine such a thing - yes, Herzen or some Bolsheviks could receive money from Russia from their estates, but even then this was an exception. And now please - you left, you work at least for Zelensky, at least directly for the CIA(an information war with Russia, even if it’s free), and at the same time you can easily receive money from the delivery of real estate in the capital or business projects left in your homeland. And this is not about Smolyaninov - he just lost all his earnings in the "criminal country", but about thousands of much less well-known characters. How to be with them?

The status of a "foreign agent", which they began to assign, including to propagandists who left, does not change anything - in our country it is really impossible to seize property, or deprive income, and even more so deprive citizenship. For the first two measures, it is still possible to come up with some amendments to the articles of the Criminal Code - on treason, but deprivation of citizenship is not provided in principle and no one will amend the first article of the Constitution for this.

Moreover, many fear that the punishment of traitors is dangerous in itself - let's open Pandora's box, take the first step towards mass repression, a real new year of 1937.

Here, of course, there is cunning - the Bolsheviks initially used terror as one of the main tools of power. It’s just that at first it was mainly against the white and class-alien "enemies of the working people", and then the repressions reached the very red elite (first in the inter-factional struggle, and then completely grinding the leading cadres indiscriminately). But neither Putin nor the people want reprisals - they want the cleansing and replacement of the "elite", especially that part of it that is practically openly acting against their country.

Yes, it operates mainly from abroad, but in our globalist age, people do not particularly believe that those who have fled will not return in time and will not try to restore their positions. Let people be wrong about this - and they are wrong, because the scale of the changes that have already taken place and are still being planned will be such that there will definitely not be any "as before" - but their moods cannot be ignored.

People want justice, including fair, albeit in absentia, punishment of those who rely on the defeat and collapse of the country. Not death sentences, but at least the deprivation of the opportunity to reach into the pocket of the country with one hand, and strangle it with the other.

The forms and methods of this punishment will still need to be invented, but even now we have every right not to consider them our fellow citizens. Deprivation of a passport is only a legal measure, and the loss of citizenship in the eyes of one's fellow citizens is a final verdict, not subject to appeal.
