Hearse Carrying Body Stolen at Australian Funeral
[An Nahar] An Australian family Friday spoke of their shock after a man jumped out of bushes and drove off in a hearse carrying the body of a relative just before his funeral.

Hayley West and husband Tobias Richardson were preparing for the funeral service of her brother-in-law Seth at a school building in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney on Thursday morning when the alleged carjacker made his move.

"Just as we were talking in the foyer and one of the funeral directors was getting the trolley to put the coffin on, a guy jumped out of the bushes and jumped into the hearse and started it up," West told ABC radio.

"The funeral home guy was banging on the window, saying 'What are you doing? You can't drive away in a hearse'.

"We are all standing around, going 'Oh my God, the hearse has been stolen'."

Richardson jumped into his own car to pursue the thief as West called police and an aghast crowd watched the chase unfold.

The hearse drove into the grounds of a school, with Richardson using his car to block it from being driven any further, West and New South Wales police said.

"Tobias jumped out and said, 'What the hell are you doing?'," West said. "The guy meekly said, 'I need to go to hospital.'"

NSW coppers arrived five minutes later to take the 49-year-old man away, adding that he had dementia and had gone missing from a nursing home earlier Thursday.

"The missing 49-year-old man was detained at the scene and taken to hospital for assessment," police said in a statement.

"It is anticipated that no further police action will be taken regarding the incident."

West said the funeral service carried on as planned after the hearse was returned, and that Seth Richardson would have seen the funny side of the incident.

"He would have thought it was hilarious."

This Week in Guns: Post Ferguson Riots Edition

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Michael Yon, the former special forces operator and current freelance writer gives his summary on the shooting of Michael Brown last August. I found this on Facebook:

Ferguson: Why did the officer not shoot Brown in the legs?

Many people are innocently asking this question. The answer could go on for pages, but to be succinct, a couple handfuls of reasons:

1) This ain't the movies.
2) Most police do not fire their weapons much. Most are not great shots.
3) He would have to be an incredible shot to be crazy enough to fire wounding shots.
4) Nearly all firefights are "stress shoots." The other guy is moving. Heart is beating fast, often out of breath. The officer in Ferguson had just been punched in the face and had been in a wrestling match for his pistol, according to him.
5) Bullets that miss can hit someone else.
6) You always are low on ammo, and you do not want to waste a single bullet.
7) Time spent reloading is dangerous.
8) I have seen many people shot who kept fighting. Shot with weapons far more powerful than any officer's pistol. Many police and combat troops have seen this and will verify.
9) Police and Soldiers never train to shoot to wound. (None that I know of.) All combat shots are center mass of any part of the target that you can see. If you see only a foot. Shoot the foot. If you see a chest -- aim for the middle. That is the way troops and police train. If the officer is pointing his pistol at someone, he is one click away from going lethal. There is no in between.
10) This ain't the movies.

During the firefight at the link below, I was photographing when two people were shot a total of seven times. Two men, shot seven times. (US Soldier three times, al Qaeda four times with M4 point blank.)

After the US Soldier was hit three times in front of me, he continued to fight well. He was hit badly at nearly point blank. The al Qaeda terrorist was hit 4x times. He was still standing trying to shoot. One shot took off a testicle, and then he got tackled by a US Soldier, and despite being hit 4x, he then engaged in aggressive hand to hand combat.

Again, this ain't the movies. When officers or troops shoot, they must shoot to kill.

***

One of Rantburg.com's regulars noted that at some point during the confrontation after Officer Darren Wilson had begun firing, he should have spent the brief break in the incident reloading. I have always heard in you are not shooting, you should be reloading.

***

One of the stories in Ferguson is about a group of shop owners, among them a tattoo shop owner who brought guns (ARs) to their businesses to protect them from damage and looting. It must have helped. As I noted earlier and elsewhere, I listened to a few hours of the Missouri State Police scanner online, and I got the impression the destruction visited on businesses in the area were not spontaneous, but planned and deliberate.

And as if on cue, the Los Angeles, California city council wants to ensure that rioters there have a tactical advantage over people who own guns, law abiding or not in their little corner of heaven. As difficult as possible rules and regulations must be imposed on those who do have guns in their homes. The rules sound a lot like the same rules US military have to live with on military bases.

At least -- certainly not in the face of a federally mandated "Shall Issue" ruling -- they are not trying to outright ban guns.

Some fascists don't even want you choking down your traditional Thanksgiving dinner in peace.

Loads.

#1  A group of black Ferguson residents armed with AR-15s and other weapons stood guard around a Conoco station, owned by a white man, and saved it from being burned after looters began wreaking havoc on November 24.

Because of the armed citizens, the Conoco was not only spared, but the owner did not even have to board up the station's windows.

According to Reuters, one of the men guarding the station was 37-year-old "Derrick Jordan--'Stretch,' as his friends call him." He arrived in front of the Conoco, pulled out an AR-15, and stood guard at the store's entrance. He was joined by three other black residents on November 25--all of whom had "pistols tucked into their waistbands" and all of whom took up positions around the Conoco.

Other armed black men joined Jordan and the others from time to time to help keep guard. They protected not only the building, but also citizens who pulled up to get gas.

Store owner Doug Merello said, "We would have been burned to the ground many times over if it weren't for them."

Jordan and the others said they did not get paid to stand guard. Rather, they did it because Merello had "employed many of them over the years and treats them with respect."

#4  My AR Carbine is in 7.62N. I have shot in service rifle competitions and simply feel better with the bigger caliber. I feel that 5.56N is a marginal caliber for a rifle. Especially a semi-auto one as opposed to automatic or burst fire capable rifles. So if I like it and shoot it well, which I do, it's the best rifle for me. Y'all pick your own, just don't try and take mine:p

#5  I agree SB. I've seen young soldiers do absolutely amazing things with M-14's fitted Leopold scopes, a rifle nearly three times their age. Equally as amazing is their reverence for the weapon of their fathers, but that goes with being a soldier and is one of the reasons I will always love a soldier.

Britain
Briton charged in UK over Pakistan murder
[DAWN] A British man was charged on Friday with killing a woman in Pakistain under an 1861 law that allows for British nationals to be tried for murder committed abroad, police said.

Tariq "Nigel" Rana, 30, is accused of killing Gulam Asia, 49, in Lahore on July 27, 2013. She died after being shot several times outside her home.

"Although the murder took place in Pakistain, Section 9 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 provides authority to try a UK national for an offence of murder committed overseas," London's Scotland Yard police force said in a statement.

Rana, who has no permanent address, was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
on Wednesday.

Two other British nationals, Nargis "Alistair" Ahmed, 33, and Mohammed "Cecil" Adeel, 35, both from Birmingham in central England, have been charged with assisting an offender.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russian Navy Successfully Tests Bulava Missile
MOSCOW -- The Russian Navy on Friday successfully test-fired a new intercontinental ballistic missile for a second time in as many months, proving its reliability following a troublesome development.

The Defense Ministry said the Alexander Nevsky nuclear submarine test-fired a Bulava missile from an underwater position in the Barents Sea. The missile's warheads reached designated targets at a testing range in Russia's far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula.

The Bulava suffered many failures during a decade of tests, raising doubts about the fate of Russia's most expensive and ambitious weapons program since the Soviet collapse. But a series of recent launches has been successful and the Navy now has three Borei-class nuclear submarines armed with the Bulava.

Like the previous Bulava launch on Oct. 29 from the Yuri Dolgoruky, Friday's test was essential for confirming the capability of the missile, which Russia touted as a key part of its nuclear deterrent.

With Soviet-built nuclear submarines approaching the end of their lifetime, the Kremlin has made replacing them a top priority in the arms modernization program, which envisages spending 20 trillion rubles (more than $400 billion) on new weapons through 2020.

According to Russian media reports, the Bulava has a range of more than 8,000 kilometers (nearly 5,000 miles) and is capable of carrying up to 10 nuclear warheads. Military officials have boasted about its ability to penetrate any prospective missile defense.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea's Military Orders Surge in Squid Poaching
North Korea has been orchestrating a surge in squid poaching in Japanese waters, as the country's fishermen take drastic measures to counter food shortages. The past 11 months have seen a four fold increase in the number of North Korean squid fishing boats spotted near Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone -- the area 200 nautical miles from Japan's coast.
I'll leave this for others to comment. Something about the phrase 'Squid Poaching' that doesn't allow me to comment appropriately on this family-friendly site

The Grand Turk
In Turkey, Iraqi Catholics Seek Stepping Stone to New Life
[AnNahar] It hardly seems the gateway to a new life of safety and prosperity: An office tucked away in a grey apartment block in Istanbul. Yet every day, dozens of Iraqi Catholics queue here, hoping it will open the door to a new life free of fear.

The Chaldean Catholics, members of Iraq's Assyrian minority, have fled Baghdad and the now jihadist-controlled city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
to escape the violence that has frequently targeted Christians since the U.S.-led invasion of 2003.

The current threat posed by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) hard boyz who regard Christians as heathens has prompted more to leave and makes a return inconceivable for those who already left.

From Turkey they must deal with the mountain of paperwork to build new lives abroad, possibly with relatives already living in exile.

For help, they flock to the non-descript office of Turkey's own tiny Chaldean community in Istanbul, run by its vicar Francois Yakan, who in 2005 founded the organization Ka-Der aimed at helping Chaldean refugees in Turkey.

The Chaldean Catholics -- who split with the Orthodox faith followed by much of the world's Assyrian community in the 16th century to follow the pope -- are awaiting the upcoming visit of Pope Francis to Turkey, which begins Friday, with huge anticipation.

- 'No idea where to go' -
On a typical afternoon, dozens of Iraqi Chaldeans wait at the office, many of them with stories of long and complicated years in exile amid the chaos in Iraq.

"I stayed five years in Syria and I have now been in Turkey for a month," said Hanna (not her real name), a mother of five children. "I want to see Pope Francis so he helps me to go to Australia as I want my daughters to do their studies there."

Yakan works personally on every refugee case, helping them register with UNHCR, pay bills or receive urgent food aid.

"The situation of the refugees has become unbearable," he said.

"Their demands for emigration can take years due to the receiver countries and because there are too many requests here in Turkey.

"In general their families who are already abroad are able to help them but they do not have the right to work. So it is very hard."

A husband and wife from Mosul, Faer and Asmaa, bear out his words. Faer has undergone four heart operations already, working up bills that he knows he cannot pay.

"We have been on the road since 2008. First in Leb, now here. We have no idea where to go. We just cannot anymore," said Asmaa.

Yakan is working with a Turkish organization to negotiate a reduction in their hospital bill. "The problem is we cannot help everyone in need," he said.

- 'A sign of hope' -
His budget of just 150,000 euros ($185,000) a year can only be used for urgent situations.

For other expenses, he needs to count on the generosity of the Istanbul Christian community or donations from outside, including the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
. It is also now increasingly dealing with Syrian refugees as well as Iraqis.

But after almost 10 years of work, his organization can already claim success, helping some 55,000 Iraqi Chaldean and other refugees move to new lives in other countries.

His success is in stark contrast to the size of Turkey's own Chaldean community, which according to officials numbers only 816.

"When I look at what we have done, I am happy that we dared to create an organization to save all these people," said Yakan.

"Our role is to protect the faith of all these eastern Christians who are being persecuted because of their beliefs."

He is hoping for a serious impulse from the visit of Pope Francis, who on Saturday afternoon will celebrate Catholic mass in Istanbul at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.

"His arrival in Turkey is a good sign for the Christians of the Middle East, especially those who are on the roads of exile. And for the thousands of refugees who we have in Turkey, it is a sign of hope," he said.

Pope Francis kicks off visit to Turkey
Pope Francis started his visit to Turkey Nov. 28, the Turkish news channel TRT Haber said.

Reportedly, after an official meeting at the airport, a delegation led by the pope will visit the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the first president of Turkey. Francis will then meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the new presidential palace.

It is also scheduled to hold meetings with the Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and the Head of the Religious Affairs Directorate Mehmet Gormez.

TRT Haber said that on Saturday, Pope Francis will depart for Istanbul, where he will visit the Hagia Sophia mosque-museum, which is also considered one of the Christian holy places. It is expected that the pope will visit the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, which is the central mosque of Istanbul also.

Francis is the fourth pope, to visit Turkey.

Quetta police arrest murderer of six-year-old Hazara girl
[DAWN] Police in Quetta claim to have tossed in the slammer
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
the killer of six-year-old Hazara girl Saher Batool, whose body was dumped after apparently being subjected to rape attempts.

"After one month, we have successfully apprehended the killer of Saher Batool," Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Asad Raza told a crowded presser on Friday.

Police had found the child's body on October 29 this year from Zarghoon Road area of Quetta, the capital of the restive southwestern province of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...

The victim, who was the daughter of a gardener working at an army facility, was found near a garbage dump close to her home.

The accused had strangulated the girl after a failed attempt
Curses! Foiled again!
at subjecting her to sexual assault, SSP Raza told news hounds today.

There were marks of torture on Saher's face and neck, he added.

During the presser, police also produced the killer before the media while covering his face.

organizations and political parties to hold protest demonstrations in order to mount pressure on the brass hats to catch the killer.

There was no immediate reaction from Saher's family following the arrest.

"We will bring more facts before the public once the investigation is completed," SSP Asad Raza said.

U.N. Watchdog Slams Police Shootings of Blacks in U.S.
[An Nahar] A U.N. watchdog on Friday slammed police shootings of blacks in the United States, days after a decision not to prosecute a white officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teen sparked nationwide protests.

With tensions still running high after Monday's decision by a Missouri grand jury not to charge a white policeman who rubbed out 18-year-old Michael Brown on August 9, the U.N. Committee Against Torture published conclusions from its review earlier this month of the U.S. record.

Brown's parents had been present at the hearing on November 12 and 13 in Geneva to discuss their son's case with the committee members.

"The committee is concerned about numerous reports of police brutality and excessive use of force by law enforcement officials, in particular against persons belonging to certain racial and ethnic groups," the 10-member committee said in its report.

It also lamented "racial profiling by police and immigration offices and growing militarization of policing activities."

Alessio Bruni, one of the top Sherlocks on the committee, told news hounds in Geneva the members had voiced "deep concern at the frequent and recurring police shootings in fatal pursuit of unarmed black individuals."

The committee, which periodically reviews the records of the 156 countries that have ratified the Convention Against Torture, lamented that the large delegation of high-level U.S. officials who came to Geneva to defend the U.S. record had provided little data on police brutality and investigations into such abuses.

It urged Washington to ensure that all cases of police brutality and excessive use of force are "investigated promptly, effectively and impartially", that perpetrators be brought to justice and that victims receive effective remedies.

"We have certain concerns about whether investigations are ... thoroughly completed and whether punishment of law-enforcement when they have crossed the line are effectively put in place," said another of the panel's top Sherlocks, Jens Modvig.

The committee also highlighted excessive use of taser guns by police, an issue that had prompted protests at the hearing earlier this month.

3 Myths About the Rioters and Looters of Ferguson
The angry rioter is a sacred figure in the progressive pantheon of social justice. The shirtless men in bandanas carting away cell phones are so outraged by injustice that they are willing to take to the streets and do what progressive hipsters taking social justice selfies of themselves in souvenir t-shirts plastered with the face of the latest victim of "white supremacism" can only dream about.

But the saint of the looted convenience store is as mythical a figure as the selfless community organizer. The race riot isn't a bubbling stew of outrage out of which wounded souls emerge to cry out for justice. It's a complicated criminal conspiracy in which the perpetrators rarely suffer any consequences.

Here's how a race riot is actually put together.

#3  All they needed to do was shot a few of the looters live on TV and throw their bodies into the fires they set.

If what the article says is true the real justice loving folks would of stood in front of the stores being looted to stop the thugs; not encourage them.

#7  The rioting game is as easy to figure out as tic-tack-toe. In the end the outraged community is left gutted and cast-off by the riot "organizers." Insurance rates sky-rocket and property values plummet. All the firebrands and rock-throwers pack up their circus tents and head off to the next venue of injustice. After the tidal wave of stupid there will be a residual ripple of outrage when it becomes apparent that no businesses intend to cast more money into an apparent cauldron of hate. Ferguson will likely become a talisman for business planners. Franchise values will rise and fall based on a communities potential for similar hijinks.
