Today's Idiot
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., June 22 (UPI) -- Florida authorities said they put the bracelets on a Dunkin' Donuts employee who allegedly dropped marijuana in with a bank deposit.

St. Augustine, Fla., police said Kimberley Kelley, 30, was taken to the clink Tuesday when she returned to Regions Bank to ask if there were any objects she had accidentally dropped in with a deposit she made for her store, WJXT-TV, Jacksonville, Fla., reported Friday.

An officer arrived at the bank and arrested Kelley after the object she allegedly dropped in with the deposit -- 55 grams of weed, pot, cannabis -- gave a positive result in a field test.

Kelley was released Wednesday from St. Johns County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Afghanistan
Former MP Ranjbar Arrested, Accused of Kidnapping and Rape
[Tolo News] Leading political figure and former member of Afghanistan's parliament Abdul Kabir Ranjbar was enjugged
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
and accused of rape by the Attorney General's office on Saturday.

Deputy Attorney General Rahmatullah Nazari told TOLOnews that Ranjbar is accused of kidnapping and raping a girl.

According to Nazari, the girl was kidnapped from the Dehsabz area of Kabul province eight months ago and raped.

"This girl was kidnapped from Dehsabz area several months ago, then she came and claimed that she was with Karim Ranjbar for several days and was raped. From yesterday on, Mr Ranjbar is under detention," Nazari said.

Some eight people were investigated in connection with her case and in the course of the investigation, officials discovered that Ranjbar was also involved in the incident, he said.

Prosecutors say that the girl had beat feet from Ranjbar's house.

"The girl claims that when Ranjbar was raping her, she hit his mouth with her fist and broke three of his teeth," Nazari added.

The case is under investigation and no further details were provided at this stage.

Australia ends search for 90 missing from boat
CANBERRA, Australia: Australia has ended a three-day search for survivors among more than 90 Afghan asylum seekers missing since a fishing boat carrying them capsized between Australia and Indonesia. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority says the air and sea search for survivors ended late yesterday and that all of the missing are now presumed dead.

No survivor has been found since the day of the tragedy on Thursday, when 108 men and a 13-year-old boy were rescued from the Indian Ocean. Searchers will now focus on recovery of bodies. The safety authority said six bodies had been retrieved yesterday, and more had been seen by planes searching for survivors.

The boat is believed to have originated in Sri Lanka and to have been carrying mostly Afghan asylum-seekers.

Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare said earlier that the critical 36-hour search window had passed and conditions had steadily deteriorated, with the situation “looking grimmer by the hour.”

“There may still be people alive, but we’re passed that window,” Clare told ABC Television. “I’ve been on the phone to Border Protection Command. Their advice is that they’ve now instructed the men and women out in the search and rescue area to now identify people that have been perished and retrieve those bodies.”

The capsize is the latest in a series of refugee boat disasters in the Indian Ocean in recent years, as rickety, overloaded vessels packed with desperate migrants struggle to reach Australia. Most boats originate in Indonesia, though there has been a spike in attempts from Sri Lanka, with navy sources in Colombo saying that people-smugglers had been encouraged by the failure of a so-called people swap with Malaysia.

That deal, under which Canberra would have taken 4,000 registered refugees in exchange for 800 asylum-seekers, was scotched by the High Court of Australia last year, forcing an easing in the government’s mandatory detention policy. Though they come in relatively small numbers by global standards asylum-seekers are a sensitive political issue in Australia, dominating 2010 elections due to a record number of boat arrivals.

Europe
Germany tells Greece to stop asking for help and start cutting budgets
Germany has told Greece to stop asking for more help and get on with implementing the reforms it has already promised as tensions mount before this week's crucial summit of European Union leaders.
They did cut budgets -- they increased them by only 20% instead of 30%. That's a cut, right?

#3  As are the Germans who, by a significant majority, now support a new Deutsche Mark which would quickly become one of the world's strongest currencies. This, in turn, would cause the price of exports from Germany's export-led economy to skyrocket & their economy to quickly collapse. Either the Germans continue to subsidize Club Med (on Club Med's terms) or they suffer a Great Depression of their own.

#5  ..a new Deutsche Mark which would quickly become one of the world's strongest currencies.

That excludes the Chinese model of artificially keeping the monetary unit low to maintain exports and business.

'Kidnap bid' on courts premises exposes poor security
[Dawn] Poor security arrangements for the city courts again came to light on Saturday when some men managed to enter the premises in a taxi and tried to kidnap a suspect.

Following the June 15 acid-throwing incident at the city courts which had left a litigant seriously injured, representatives of the Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Bar Association had expressed grave concerns over poor security arrangements. The district and sessions judge concerned had also ordered proper security at the entrances and issued directives to block the entry of all vehicles except those of judges.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
court sources said that three to four men entered the city courts premises in a taxi from gate No 1 allegedly to kidnap a suspect, Asif Lodhi, who along with some others was booked in a rioting case registered at the Korangi Industrial Area cop shoppe.

They said that Asif came to the city courts in connection with the hearing of his case where the men in the taxi tried to forcibly take him away but some lawyers and other people present around foiled the attempt.

An official at the City Courts cop shoppe also confirmed the incident, but said that no case was lodged since the matter had been settled between both parties.

A comprehensive security plan was proposed for the city courts in February 2010 and the basic objective of the whole exercise was to restrict and monitor the entry of people and vehicles on the courts premises by installing walkthrough gates, surveillance cameras at the main entrances and increasing number of coppers. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
the KBA held the provincial authorities responsible for not implementing the plan.

Thai 'Red Shirts' back for 'unfinished fight'
[Iran Press TV] Thousands of Thai "Red Shirts" rally in Bangkok to demand the judiciary to stay out of the country's politics, saying they have returned to attend to unfinished business.

"Today, we mark the 80th anniversary and show our concern over threats to democracy," AFP quoted Red Shirt leader Kokaew Pikulthong as saying on Sunday to the crowd, who had gathered in the Democracy Monument in the capital to mark the end of absolute monarchy in the country 80 years ago.

"Let's prepare for an unfinished fight," he said.

Thailand's current Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the sister of the exiled former Premier Thaksin Shinawatra, has proposed changes to the country's constitution as part of reconciliation plans to end a political crisis that has gripped the country since her brother was ousted by royalist generals who saw him as a threat to the monarchy.

The opposition groups, however, say the amendments and related amnesty moves are aimed at allowing the former premier to come back home. Thaksin, a former telecoms tycoon, has been found guilty in the country of abuse of power and currently lives in Dubai to avoid a jail term on the back of the conviction.
