Steele drops re-election bid, Priebus to head GOP
GOP Chairman Michael Steele has dropped his re-election bid amid declining support as the Republican National Committee, facing a $22 million debt and an internal war over the party's identity or something, voted to elect a new chairman.

"I will step aside because I think the party is ready for something different," Steele told the committee after doing poorly in four rounds of balloting. He endorsed challenger Maria Cino and called for the party to be unified as we it seeks to topple President Barack Obama in 2012.

#1  Let the Reince Priebus joke begin!

#2  Steele got tossed under the Priebus.

#3  For starters, if Priebus wants to keep the RNC a relevant force in politics, they NEED to embrace the grassroots and the tea party while telling the country club elite to sit down and share. The damn RINOs have pissed the regular voter off so badly, they don't work with the RNC and even deliberately work against them and their wishy-washy candidates. The time for a consensus on how things are run from everyone is necessary.

#4  at AOSHQ in high celebration:
New RNC Chief: 25th Century Mogolian/Hun Conqueror From the Future, Reince Priebus
—Ace

No, seriously, he has a science-fiction villain name.

I like it, but "Reince Priebus" seems like it should have an "Overlord" or "StarKhan" in front of it.

#5  remember "Blue" Wisconsin? He helped make it "Red" Wisconsin and got Russ Feingold out on his ass resigned. I like the choice

#6  I will give him a year and make a decision then. For now, I will support the party. Lets have a look a year from now and see how things look.

#8  New guy is an insider, part of the upper crust GOP. And thus may be part of the problem. He has a few months before the knives start being sharpened.

RNC tends to be way too insider oriented, and that blindness is what cost them even greater success last cycle.

But in any case good riddance to Steele, who was a flopper.

Obama tells polarized nation: 'We can be better'
[Arab News] President Barack B.O. Obama appealed for unity at a memorial service for those attacked in the Arizona shooting rampage, and he implored a divided America to honor them by becoming a better country.

Obama electrified the crowd Wednesday by revealing that following his hospital visit with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, she had opened her eyes for the first time since being shot point-blank in the head in the liquidation attempt four days ago. First lady Michelle Obama held hands with Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, as the news brought a cascade of cheers.

While some have blamed America's overheated political climate and the use of violent imagery in campaigns, Obama conceded that there is no way to know what set off Saturday's shooting rampage that left six people dead, 13 maimed and the nation shaken. He tried instead to leave indelible memories of the people who were bumped off and to rally the country to use the moment as a reflection on America's behavior and compassion.

#1  No.

YOU can be better.
The Nation can be better by not having elected YOU.
It's all about YOU.

#3  You can be better. And if you work really, really hard, for a long, long time, maybe someday you can be as good as meeeeeeeeeeee.

"Go now, and tell no one of these things."

#5  opened her eyes for the first time

I read a different report that said the above was not really true - that she had opened her eyes earlier. But I wasn't there, and Obama was, so.....

#7  Geez, dude....the phrase of the day was "Together we thrive". It was on all the t shirts and everything. Stay. On. Message.

Did TOTUS go rogue again, dammit??

#8  I remember a medical update a few days beforehand the doctor in charge noted she had opened her eyes.

There are only two other explanations for that statement, one being they had continuous video of Mrs. Gifford, and the other being, well..."opened her eyes for the first time (for me)." I guess there are other explanations, like being able to heal the blind.

Yes starting the very second "WE" are out of office.

#10  "Together we thrive"

Should have said: "The Together We Thrive 2011 Obama Tour."

T-Shirts was pretty tacky.

#11  Re-branding tragedy? Is that considered Hope, Change, or both?

When I peeled the sticker off of my Together We Thrive Slurpee Cup, it had a sticker underneath that read "Chicago Olympics 2016". And my Back-Of-The-Car keychain has a PLA army knife attachment.
