Next ice age not likely for 1 500 years
[News 24] High levels of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere mean the next ice age is unlikely to begin for at least 1 500 years, an article in the journal Nature Geoscience said on Monday.
I sure hope my coat's back from the cleaners by then...
Concentrations of the main gases blamed for global warming reached record levels in 2010 and will linger in the atmosphere for decades even if the world stopped pumping out emissions today, according to the UN's weather agency.

#1  Yokay-y-y, but IMO this forecast has to be weighed agz previous reptitive Pert forecasts warning of significant global temperature range increases 2050-2100 - iff correct, the latter directly infers that the Sun will emit far stronger solar flares = CMES, etc. than presently experienced on Earth.

"LETHAL/DEADLY" GLACIAL? ICE AGE VS. "GREAT/MIGHTY SLUSHY".

#3  Population drops significantly during extended cold spells be they full ice ages or mini-ice ages. The rubes who've been Chicken Little'ing global warming seem to have missed that fine point.

#4  If you think about it, the world in 1,500 years will likely:

1) Not have a United States, as such, though one or more North American nations will claim descent from it.
2) Will have a population of around 3-4 billion people.
3) Will have significantly different flora and fauna, with many extinctions and new species.
4) May or may not have much of an entire continent devastated by some natural catastrophe such as a meteor or super-volcano eruption.

#5  The world in 1500 years will
Have peak Oilers predicting oil will run out in 35 years time.
Have people saying the Vogons are a peaceful race.
Have a group who want the currency to be run by largely foreign gold-miners.
The people running the currency are a group of academics so awful, it might be better if any other group did run the currency.
Still have Malthusian twits.
Still have people calling David Ricardo and Adam Smith communists.

#6  While warming due to increased CO2 is currently undetectable, in a century or two it may become detectable. In 1,500 years it may significant enough to do us some good.

Or not.

#7  Does this mean the solution to global warming is another ice age?

BTW how does the prospects of thousands of species of tropical plants and animals going extinct in a world wide cooling fly with our dim light bulb earth first animal liberation vegan PETA crowd?

none of these idiots in the environmental left talk to each other, if they ever compared notes, they would realize that global warming would increase habitat as vast areas of Africa, South America and the US Southwest would become green from rain and we'd have more arable land to grow food. I think the prospects of being able to feed a couple of billion more people is why the environazis don't want global warming.

#8  It isn't so much that they don't talk to each other Bill - it's that, in the end, they couldn't give a flaming ball of sh*t about the environment as long as their grant money keeps pouring in and they can boss people around (see EPA).

That is what's important to them - not some silly-ass environment.

#12  I've had a chance over the holidays this year to try and talk to a slew of gerbil wormers.

Of course it didn't amount to anything because they literally can not converse. They can neither ask intelligent questions nor process answers; if asked a question of any kind they can not provide an answer other than the rote sound bite appropriate according to their dogma. This, in spite of the fact, that their sound bite is diametrically opposed to the sound bite they uttered 30 seconds earlier.

When this "inconsistency" is pointed out and queried their only response is to engage in spittle flecked invective, often referring to GWB in some way or other.

The whole interaction rarely lasted more than 2 minutes from opening "hello" to snot-dripping rage.

It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

Egyptian Christian faces trial for insulting Islam
[Seattle PI] A prominent Christian Egyptian media mogul faces trial on a charge of insulting Islam, lawyers said Monday, based on his relaying a cartoon on his Twitter account.
If you can't say what you please you don't have freedom of speech, do you? And if you can't say what you please you're not free to think it. And if you can't think what you please you're not free at all, are you?
The case dates back to June, when Naguib Sawiris posted a cartoon showing a bearded Mickey Mouse and veiled Minnie. He made a public apology after Islamists complained, but his action set off a boycott of his telecom company and other outlets. He said it was supposed to be a joke and apologized, but lawyer Mamdouh Ismail filed a formal complaint against him. After investigation, the prosecution set the trial for Jan. 14. Sawiris was not available for comment.

The case is linked to developments in Egypt after the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak last February. Sawiris and Ismail belong to competing political parties, and sectarian violence between Christians and Islamists has been on the upswing. In Egypt's parliamentary elections, Islamist parties have won a large majority, leaving liberals far behind. Sawiris co-founded a liberal party, and Ismail heads a party representing ultraconservative Salafi Muslims.

The case has added to fears among many that ultraconservative Islamists may use their new found powers to try to stifle freedom of expression.
No! Reeeeeeeally?
Ismail countered that, saying he took legal action against Sawiris because he wants the law to be respected by all, even a famous businessman and politician, in the post-Mubarak era. "The revolution came about because we all are seeking the rule of law without any exceptions," he said. The charge is punishable by up to one year in prison.
So y'see, it didn't come about because of any desire to be free on the part of the citizenry, just a desire to see laws enforced strictly, especially against infidels.
Rights lawyer Gamal Eid said the contempt of religion law, in place even before Mubarak came to power, has been used against scholars and activists whose comments about Islam angered conservatives. He warned that the wording of the law is vague, and it can become a tool in the hands of prosecutors to punish opponents and appease authorities.
Generally people get the government they want, occasionally even the government they deserve.

#1  It is important who is in control of the courts when it comes to trial. Egypt still has Civil Law, similar to the French Code Civil, which means that more justice can be purchased than can be dictated. So, as it were, saved from rabid hyenas by sharks.

Greece begins the collapse -rules pedophilia, exhibitionism, and kleptomania disabilities
ATHENS, Greece (AP) - Greek disability groups expressed anger Monday at a government decision to expand a list of state-recognized disability categories to include pedophiles, exhibitionists and kleptomaniacs.

The National Confederation of Disabled People called the action "incomprehensible," and said pedophiles are now awarded a higher government disability pay than some people who have received organ transplants.

The Labor Ministry said categories added to the expanded list _ that also includes pyromaniacs, compulsive gamblers, fetishists and sadomasochists _ were included for purposes of medical assessment and used as a gauge for allocating financial assistance.
Sooo... things which cost society money and unity, are encouraged and protected to cost society more money and unity. I see nothing wrong with this plan to accelerate Greece into civil collapse and ruin!

FIA sacks three forensic experts
[Dawn] The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday sacked three of its forensic experts, DawnNews reported.

All three dismissed garde-19 officers, Sarfraz Chaudhry, Irfan Qureshi and Abdul Ghafar, had worked with former DG FIA Tariq Chaudhry in important cases.

According to FIA sources, they were dismissed on ground of poor performance. However the officers deny it and were of the stance that they were sacked without any reason.

All three have investigated in key cases. Sarfaraz Chaudhry was even announced to get "Tamgha-i-Imtiaz" for his work in Khanani and Kaalia and Hamesh Khan Cases.

The sacked officers were performing their duties as forensic experts for last six years.

Righthaven complains about 'scorched-earth' efforts to enforce judgments
Awwwwww - da' poor bay-beeees
A new round of name-calling erupted Monday between copyright lawsuit filer Righthaven LLC of Las Vegas and one of its creditors.

Righthaven, the copyright enforcement partner of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and formerly of the Denver Post, has for months been in survival mode as it tries to block creditors from seizing its assets. Creditors -- including people sued by Righthaven for copyright infringement but who then defeated Righthaven in court -- have won $216,335 in judgments against Righthaven. That's money they spent on legal fees successfully fighting Righthaven.

In the latest round of legal wrangling, Righthaven filed motions in federal court in Las Vegas on Monday complaining about what it called the "scorched earth judgment enforcement efforts"
you'd know
of Righthaven defendant Wayne Hoehn and his attorneys.

After on June 20 winning dismissal of the Righthaven lawsuit against him -- alleging infringement of a copyright for a Review-Journal column -- Hoehn was awarded $34,045 in legal fees against Righthaven on Aug. 15.

The $63,720 writ of execution also was included in Randazza's successful request that a receiver be appointed to auction Righthaven's property, including its copyrights, trademark and website domain name.

So far, the receiver has seized and auctioned the website for $3,300 but has said Righthaven has been uncooperative in turning over the trademark and copyrights.
I'm just shocked! Hooda thunk it?
