It was the kind of strange, odd statement which after these last couple weeks has me thinking Obama was attempting to get ahead of these last couple weeks; like the IRS admitted doing.
MEN with strong upper body strength are more likely to vote conservatively while physically weaker males have a greater tendency towards left-leaning views.
And stronger men are more likely to protect their resources while weaker males favor more socialist views such as wealth distribution, researchers claim.
Psychological scientists Michael Bang Petersen of Denmarks Aarhus University, and Daniel Sznycer of the University of California, say political motivations may have evolutionary links to physical strength.
The scientists say men's upper body strength predicts and influences their political opinions and this link reflects psychological traits that evolved in response to our early ancestral environments and continue to influence behaviour today.
"While many think of politics as a modern phenomenon, it has - in a sense - always been with our species," they say.

I wish I could find the blog post I saw on this. The writer, digging into the original study, discovered that there actually is a second bifurcation along the line of financial success. That is, financially successful men with strong upper bodies were against redistribution, but financially unsuccessful men wtih strong upper bodies were strongly for it. Think the difference between the Independent business owner and the union man. He posted three beautiful graphs, presumably from the publication, showing those correlations.

So the corollary should be that the predominant physical characteristic of strongly conservative areas should be an over abundance of buff rich guys? Will moving to idaho help my triceps and wallet?
