American woman found dead in suitcase at Bali resort; her 19-year-old daughter arrested
[NYDAILYNEWS] An American couple was tossed in the clink
Please don't kill me!
in Bali after the woman's mother was found dead and stuffed in a suitcase at a posh hotel, local media reported Wednesday.

Heather Mack, 19, and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, were collared after the luggage carrying the body of Sheila von Wiese Mack, 62, was found in the back of a taxi parked in front of the exclusive St. Regis Bali in Nusa Dua on Tuesday, the Jakarta Post reported.

"When we opened the suitcase we were really surprised as we found a dead body," South Kuta Police Chief Comr. Gede Redastra told the paper.

Planned Parenthood Counselor To Teen: 'Anything' Sexual Is Normal 'As Long As Its Consensual''
[BREITBART] A fourth video in a series from pro-life group Live Action exposes a Planned Parenthood

I'm kinda hazy on this. I got the Shetland Pony part, but if a carp takes part does it have to say it's okay, too? What if it's dead?
The Planned Parenthood counselor claims that "anything within the sexual world is normal as long as it's consensual," and that if the "teen's" sex partner "wants to try something that... is gonna cause you harm or pain, and you're okay with that, that's a completely different thing than [sic] if he wants to try something to do that you're not okay with[.]"

Dog elected mayor in Minnesota
[MYFOXNY] A small Minnesota village has a new mayor. Duke, the dog is Cormorant's newest mayor.

The 12 people who live there elected the 7-year-old dog as its leader.

Duke may not understand politics too well but he's been doing a great job guarding the town.

He even makes sure cars aren't going past the speed limit.

Duke will be sworn in on Sunday.

He won't be getting a salary, but a pet store has agreed to donate a year's supply of food to reward Duke for his service.

Ebola death toll reaches 1,069: WHO
[Iran Press TV] The World Health Organization (WHO) says the worst outbreak of Ebola has so far claimed the lives of 1,069 people.

The UN health agency announced the latest corpse count on Wednesday, adding that the disease left 56 people dead in just two days.

The number of confirmed infections rose by 128 over the two days, raising the total number of cases to 1,975 people, the WHO said.

New cases and deaths had been registered in the West African countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria.

The development comes as Canada has said it would send doses of a vaccine called VSV-EBOV to West Africa. The drug has shown promise in animal research but never been tested in humans.
And now it will be. If it does nothing or causes harm, it will soon be conclusively demonstrated.

#1  Some rejected drugs for other diseases turned out, in testing, to have horrible near term (weeks to months) side effects that rendered them unusable. Check out fialuridine.
Posted by: Anguper Hupomosing9418 || 08/14/2014 10:12 Comments || Top||

#2  Every drug is toxic and they all have side effects, to a greater or lesser degree. So it's always a question of which is worse: the disease or the treatment?

Besides, ZMapp and vaccines are antibodies. Not drugs. No guarantee of efficacy, but very unlikely to be harmful. By "animal research" they mean monkeys. Primates. 98%+ genetic similarity to humans. Much better than rats or mice or cells in a petri dish.

This Ebola strain so far has a 55% mortality rate. If there was an option beyond bed rest and staying hydrated, I'd sure as hell give it a go.

Rapper Weird MC Denies Being Appointed Commissioner in Osun State
Just for the record, I haven't, either.
[NIGERIANBULLETIN] The 44-year old rapper, Weird MC, a native of Ogun state, was an enthusiastic campaigner for governor Aregbesola in the last election. Rumors went abroad that she has been offered a position as Commissioner for Arts and Culture.

She has, however denied it. Speaking with The Net NG, she said: 'I just heard about it this morning. I don't know anything about it and at this point I would rather keep quiet and let the rumour continue' she said.

The rumour sparked off after she retweeted a post from a certain Sir Akanni Ade with handle @jimAAK who wrote on Twitter, 'Osun has decided: Commissioner for Art and Culture to Weird MC Official. Your struggle has finally being laid to rest. Indeed you need a vacation'.

She however confirmed that she will take up the post if offered, 'Of course, I would accept it. He's one one man that I admire and would love to work with.'

Ebola Claims Another Sierra Leone Doctor; ZMapp to Liberia
FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — A second leading Sierra Leone doctor has succumbed to the Ebola epidemic sweeping across West Africa, dealing another blow to the country’s faltering efforts to stem the disease.

Dr. Modupeh Cole, 56, died Wednesday at the Ebola treatment center operated by Doctors Without Borders in the northeastern town of Kailahun, officials at the health ministry said.

The loss of Dr. Cole was described as significant by health officials in a country with a severe shortage of well-trained doctors, especially coming two weeks after the death of Dr. Sheik Humarr Khan, the virologist who was leading the fight against the disease in eastern Sierra Leone, where it has flourished.

Dr. Cole “was a highly qualified physician, and we have very few of them on hand,” said Dr. Amara Jambai, director of prevention and control at the health ministry. “You can imagine what this does to the younger cohort. It’s like having a general falling in battle. It just brings more misery. It’s not good. When you have a health system that’s constrained, it’s a bit too much.”

MONROVIA (Reuters) - A consignment of experimental Ebola drugs arrived by plane in Liberia on Wednesday to treat two doctors suffering from the virus, which has killed more than 1,000 people across four West African countries.

The drug, ZMapp, arrived in two boxes on a commercial flight from the United States carried by Liberia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augustine Ngafuan, and was unloaded at the VIP terminal, a Reuters witness said.

It will be taken to a hospital in the capital and administered to Liberian doctors Zukunis Ireland and Abraham Borbor, who officials said contracted the disease while attending to patients, including a late colleague.

Rooshun military vehicles enter Ukraina
So, it begins...
The white trucks of humanitarian aid rumbled through Russia in a convoy stretching for miles, moving slowly southwards on the M4 highway, amid a landscape of fertile fields and Ladas stopped at the roadside — their boots overflowing with watermelons for sale.

But, while the trucks came to a halt well short of Ukraine's border, a different Russian convoy did make the crossing into Ukrainian territory late on Thursday evening.

The Guardian saw a column of 23 armoured personnel carriers, supported by fuel trucks and other logistics vehicles with official Russian military plates, travelling towards the border near the Russian town of Donetsk — about 200km away from Donetsk, Ukraine.

US mercenaries reportedly in Ukraina battle

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Russian nationalists claim that American and Polish mercenaries are involved in Ukrainian military operations in eastern Ukraina.

According to a news report which appeared in the pro Russian Voice of Sevastopol, those troops were withdrawn from Gorlovka, which has been the scene of fighting as the Ukrainian Army has been trying to seal off Donetsk to begin a final assault on Donetsk.

Ukrainian forces appear to be having difficulty sealing a ring around Donetsk, but have begun shelling Donetsk and Lugansk, according to a separate report which appeared in the online edition of the pro Russian Voice of Sevastopol. Reports are the Ukrainian military is attempting to regroup their forces in the area of Gorlovka, which have been heavily battered in recent fighting.

Reports from two days ago indicated Ukrainian forces were attempting to complete encirclement of Donetsk, cutting the city off from its northeasterly sister city of Lugansk. According to information on Russian blogs pro Russian fighters are trying to keep the road between Lugansk and Donetsk open for a Russian humanitarian supply column expected to enter eastern Ukraina this week.

All the fighting in the last 36 hours between Ukrainian regulars and pro Russian forces center around the municipality of Krasnii Luch, east of Donetsk, where several fire fights have taken place over the last four or five days.

According to current information presented in the pro Russian publication, troops of the Ukrainian 25th Airborne Brigade were forced to retreat from their positions, even as Ukrainian forces begin shelling and air strikes in Donetsk and Lugansk.

The shelling of Donetsk began after 1200 hrs Tuesday after about 12 hours of relative peace in the region. Additional shelling began around 1800 hrs and continued for about 90 minutes as artillery impacts were recorded in the Yasinovataya area and in the Voroshilov district. The report said two civilians were wounded. Other reports said dozens were wounded and killed.

A second artillery strike was recorded in the southern sectors of Donetsk near the Yelenovka area. That shelling began around midnight Wednesday local time. Artillery strikes were recorded on Ulitsa Biryuzovo.

Artillery strikes were also reported in the Kalinovka and Budyonovka areas near Donetsk.

Meanwhile near Krasnii Luch, Russian fighters claim to have two "punisher" brigades encircled, the 30th and 95th Brigades, which are suffering from a lack of food. This units are also undergoing artillery rocket attacks from pro Russian forces in the area.

The same report said that Ukrainina forces were attempting a new combined arms operation to take the town of Vuhlehirsk (Russian name: Uglegorsk), about 20 kilometers east of Donetsk.

Pro Russian forces are said to have destroyed a heavy rocket artillery battery in the same area, near the settlement of Stepanivka, where about ten vehicles, including Urugan 300mm artillery rocket launchers (MRL) and supply vehicles, were located. It is reported that pro Russian forces were using tanks and artillery to counter Ukrainian forces in the area.

The pro Russian blogger Colonel Cassad said Tuesday that the forces righting in he area appear to be in a state of dynamic equilibrium, although Ukrainian forces were faring less well than expected. Other report say Ukrainian forces were forced to expend their own mobile reserves to deal with counterattacks by pro Russian forces.

Paid media have been silent since Tuesday about Russian president Vladimir Putin's humanitarian aid convoy, set to enter Ukraina this week. Although it has been generally reported that Ukraina along with its western allies including the United States, have opposed the convoy, it is rumored that Ukrainian government officials are meeting to discuss the issue in closed meetings. It is said Poroshenko wants he convoy to go no further in than Lugansk and to enter only through the northern region of Kharkiv. According to various news account a total of 287 vehicles are in the Russian convoy.

Ukraine says will not let 'Putin's' convoy onto its territory
[Al Ahram] A massive Russian aid convoy rumbled towards Ukraine's border on Wednesday as Kiev vowed to block what it feared could be a "Trojan horse" bringing military assistance to pro-Kremlin rebels fighting a bloody insurgency in the east.

Russian television images showed a line of nearly 300 lorries moving through the countryside, covered with white tarpaulin and stretching over almost three kilometres (two miles).

The mission has sparked fears the four-month conflict, which has already left over 1,500 dead and plunged relations between Moscow and the West to a post-Cold War nadir, could be about to escalate even further.

Western powers say Russia might use the operation as a "Trojan horse" to sneak in troops or weapons for pro-Moscow Death Eaters, who have been losing ground against government troops in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine's interior minister Arsen Avakov lashed out at Moscow's move as a "provocation by the cynical aggressor" and reiterated Kiev's insistence that "no humanitarian convoy of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's will be allowed to cross the territory."

Earlier, it said the trucks would be stopped at the border, and the aid unloaded and transported into conflict-torn eastern Ukraine with the help of the International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC).

Russia insists it has coordinated the mission with the ICRC and that the convoy does not include military personnel.

But the ICRC has denied it is involved and told AFP they had not been able to check what was inside the convoy.

A journalist from Russian tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda travelling with the convoy wrote on Twitter on Wednesday morning that the lorries had halted as they waited for "political decisions" to be taken.

Other Russian journalists with the convoy said it was due to arrive at the border by evening.

There were concerns in Kiev that the vehicles, officially bound for a government-controlled border checkpoint, could take a different route to the east across a rebel-held stretch of the border.

The convoy -- with between 262 and 287 vehicles, according to Russia's foreign ministry -- left the Moscow region on Tuesday carrying over 1,800 tonnes of "humanitarian supplies", including medical equipment, baby food, sleeping bags, and electric generators, Russian media reported.

Ukraine Open to Russian Aid If Distributed by Red Cross
[BUSINESSWEEK] Ukraine opened the door to a compromise over humanitarian aid arriving on hundreds of trucks from Russia, saying it could accept the supplies if the Red Thingy distributed them in the nation's war-torn eastern regions.

Ukraine also demanded that its own customs and border officers examine the shipments first near a checkpoint into the Luhansk region, where pro-Russian separatists have been battling government troops for months. Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for Russia's Foreign Ministry, didn't answer a call to her mobile phone seeking comment outside of office hours in Moscow. There were conflicting reports on the location of the truck convoy.

"A decision was taken to accept aid for Luhansk to avoid a full-scale invasion from Russia," Svyatoslav Tsegolko, a front man for President Petro Poroshenko, told news hounds yesterday in Kiev. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe would also be involved in checking the cargo that left Moscow Aug. 12, he said.

Turkish women post shoe pictures in new anti-sexism protest
[Al Ahram] Turkish women took to social networks on Wednesday to post pictures of shoes in a new viral campaign against sexism inspired by a female deputy's incendiary speech in parliament.

Turkish opposition MP Aylin Nazliaka had launched a withering denunciation of gender discrimination in Turkey, during which she became so incensed she threatened to throw one of her high-heeled shoes at her fellow deputies.

"I swear to God, the devil inside me tells me to take off my shoe and throw it at you. But I take a look at my shoe and then I take a look at you and say, 'It's not worth it'," she said in the speech in parliament on Tuesday.

In the Islamic world, throwing a shoe or exposing a shoe sole at an opponent is considered one of the biggest possible insults.

Inspired by the powerful speech, Turkish women were posting pictures of their shoes under the hashtag #geliyorterlik (the slipper is coming).

"My slipper is coming and it can hurt just like a police truncheon," Twitter user @blenderella wrote.

The new campaign comes after Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc caused a furore last month by saying that Turkish women should not laugh in public.

This prompted thousands of Turkish women to post pictures of themselves laughing deliriously, under the hashtag #direnkakhaha (#resistlaughter).

The government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
, who was elected president on Sunday, has long been accused by critics of seeking to erode the country's secular principles and limiting the civil liberties of women.

Nazliaka's angry outburst came during a heated session in parliament during which she urged politicians to immediately discuss a bill that would grant victims of domestic violence residing in women's shelters the right to vote.

She said the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) was exposing women to violence "due to the policies that you impose on the female body".

She said the AKP wanted to control "what women wear, what women eat, even what colour of lipstick they use."

Abid Masood told the Riaz Khan Shaheed police that he received a call of his brother, constable Sadiq Zaman, at around 5.30am that he (Zaman) had killed his father, Omer Zaman, mother, Nighat Yasmeen, and nephew, Sameer Rehman, and was also going to kill him (Abid).

The complainant said that the policeman accused his family of taking sides with his former wife, whom he had divorced a few months back.

"After receiving the call, I rushed to the house of my parents from my Naway Kalay residence and found my parents and nephew lying in a pool of blood," he told police, adding that the killer had escaped the area.
