U.S. Soldiers Told to Ignore Sexual Abuse of Boys by Afghan Allies
[NYT] KABUL, Afghanistan -- In his last phone call home, Lance Cpl. Gregory Buckley Jr. told his father what was troubling him: From his bunk in southern Afghanistan, he could hear Afghan police officers sexually abusing boys they had brought to the base.

"At night we can hear them screaming, but we're not allowed to do anything about it," the Marine's father, Gregory Buckley Sr., recalled his son telling him before he was shot to death at the base in 2012. He urged his son to tell his superiors. "My son said that his officers told him to look the other way because it's their culture."

Rampant sexual abuse of children has long been a problem in Afghanistan, particularly among armed commanders who dominate much of the rural landscape and can bully the population. The practice is called bacha bazi, literally "boy play," and American soldiers and Marines have been instructed not to intervene -- in some cases, not even when their Afghan allies have abused boys on military bases, according to interviews and court records.

#13  One of the things that allowed the Taliban to come to power was the tolerance by the Soviet-supported government of this kind of behaviour. For a while, as I recall, the Taliban successfully forbade taking boys and growing opium, though by the end they were as bad as those they'd replaced.

Build a 20-meter wall around the entire country, put signs on the outside saying "Hell on Earth" - and leave the Orcs inside to destroy themselves.

The best thing we could have done 30 years ago would have been to encourage the Soviet Union to stay in Afghanistan - for 100 years. Let them wallow in that cesspit of moral depravity for few generations - meanwhile, bleeding their Army white.

It's just like Iraq - we should have just kept selling arms to both Iraq and Iran - and let those two flavors of Muslim barbarians grind each other into pink mist for decades to come.

Karzai: Pakistani civilians are our brothers but problem is with ISI
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
said Sunday that the Pak civilians are the brothers of Afghan people but criticized the country's strong military intelligence -- Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) for interfering in internal affairs of Afghanistan.

He said the Afghan people should remember that the Pak civilians are their brothers and thanked the Pak people for providing shelter to thousands of Afghan refugees during the civil war.

Karzai was speaking during a ceremony to commemorate the 4th liquidation anniversary of former Afghanistan's Caped President and High Peace Council Chief Burhanuddin Rabbani
... the gentlemanly murdered legitimate president of Afghanistan...
.

In regards to the liquidation of Burhanuddin Rabbani, Karzai said those who were against peace and stability in Afghanistan planned and carried out the attack on Rabbani.

According to Karzai, a grant meeting (Loya Jirga) was due to be organized on grinding of the peace processor in Afghanistan before Rabbani was assassinated.

He insisted that the attack was carried out to sabotage grinding of the peace processor and destabilize the country.

Rabbani was assassinated by a jacket wallah who had disguised himself as a peace messenger, representing the Taliban group.

The attack was carried out inside his residence in capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
on the evening of 20th September 2011.

No group including the Talibs grabbed credit behind the attack with both the Taliban and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network rejecting role in the attack.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the Afghan officials insisted that the liquidation plot was organized by the Taliban's council -- the Quetta Shura

Mullah Mansoor issues statement amid fears of Taliban split into two factions
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The newly appointed Taliban group chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor has issued a statement amid fears that the group may split into factions due to persistent rift following Mullah Mohammad Omar's death -- the group's founder and supreme leader.

In his statement, Mullah Mansoor urged the Taliban group members not to distance themselves from the formation of the group's new leadership -- apparently pointing towards the dissident Taliban capos who oppose his appointment as the new Taliban group chief.

Mullah Mansoor warned that such moves will only prove beneficial to the group's enemies and will harm the Taliban group leadership.

He said the Taliban group under his leadership welcomes any steps and efforts that are for the betterment of the group's jihadi efforts, insisting that the leadership needs their commitment and contribution.

This comes as reports emerged earlier today suggesting persistent differences among the Taliban leadership as talks between the newly appointed Taliban group chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor and the dissatisfied Taliban capos failed to resolve tensions as a result of Mullah Mansoor's appointment.

The reports further added that the rift could result into a split among the Taliban group leadership could derail fledgling peace talks between the insurgency and the Afghan government and open the way for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group to expand its foothold in the country.

Mullah Abdul Manan Niazi, a front man for the anti-Mansour faction, said talks between Mansour and the dissatisfied commanders had failed.

"We waited for two months and wanted Mullah Mansour to understand the situation and step down to let the Supreme Council choose the new leader by consensus -- but he failed," said Niazi.

Niazi further added that the dissident commanders will now direct their own attacks on the Afghan government and its foreign allies in Afghanistan.

"Anyone engaged in Death Eater activities under the leadership of Mullah Mansour isn't a jihadi," he said. "We will now publicly oppose him."

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Jane reached into her purse for her .38...
the Taliban group claimed earlier last week that the issues among the Taliban leadership have been resolved with the allegiance of Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
's son Maulavi Mohammad Yaqoob and his brother Mullah Abdul Manan to Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.

The circumstances surrounding the decision by Mullah Omar's family members to pledge allegiance to Mullah Mansoor is not clear so far as Mullah Manan had earlier opposed with the election of Mullah Mansour as the replacement supreme leader of Taliban and had warned of internal fighting within the group should the differences among the Taliban leadership are not resolved.

He wanted Maulavi Yaqoob to succeed his father as the supreme leader of Taliban insisting that Mullah Mansoor was not elected by majority of Taliban's central Shura 'council'.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
the Taliban group said the family members of Mullah Omar delayed the announcement of allegiance to Mullah Mansoor considering the interests of the group and rejected that the delay was caused due to rift among the Taliban leadership.

Rassoul Sayyaf Believes Terror Attacks Plotted in Kabul
[Tolo News] Former Jihadi leader Abdul Rasool Sayyaf
...Afghan Salafist warlord, owned by Saudi Arabia. He was the guy who invited al-Qaeda to come into Afghanistan and make themselves at home...
on Sunday said he believes terror attacks carried out in Afghanistan are being plotted from centers within Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
city.

Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the fourth anniversary of the liquidation of former president Burhanuddin Rabbani
... the gentlemanly murdered legitimate president of Afghanistan...
, he claimed that the centers are located in the Afghan capital and that he can prove it.

"The terrorist attacks that kill our women, children, youth and elderly citizens are being carried out from centers based in Kabul city," Sayyaf said.

Sayyaf's anti-Taliban declarations that the holy warriors are the slaves of foreigners were also widely welcomed.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, a little lightbulb figuratively appeared over Bossy's head...
referring to the spies within government - which is lately referred to as the fifth pillar - he said that the enemies of Afghanistan are found within government ranks.

"As long as we don't remove the enemies from our own ranks, we will face serious threats," he warned.

He also noted that a number of "criminals and slaves" are in possession of a lot of weapons in Kabul. He warned that such groups can raise their weapons at any time against the government.

Touching on the newly emerged group - Daesh - Sayyaf said such elements are only appointed as slaves and show a bleak image of Islam.

This comes after Sayyaf's recent call for Jihad against the Taliban.

Speaking at an event earlier this month - marking Martyrs Week and Ahmad Shah Massoud's 14th anniversary of his death - Sayyaf called the Taliban's war un-Islamic and illegal.

"I want them to free themselves of slavery. If they have any objections, they should share it with us. They should not take commands from others," Sayyaf said at the time.

UNSMIL condemns Hafter's Operation Doom against IS in Benghazi
[Libya Herald] The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), headed by Bernardino Leon, has "strongly" condemned the military escalation in Benghazi launched yesterday by the head of the Libyan armed forces Khalifa Hafter.

"The timing of Arclight airstrikes clearly aims at undermining the on-going efforts to end the conflict," it said in a statement issued from Skhirat, Morocco, where the UN-brokered Libya Dialogue negotiations are taking place.

Hafter yesterday unveiled his latest bid, Operation Doom (Hatif), to rid Benghazi of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) fighters and other krazed killers. It is supposed to be a coordinated ground and air strategy to deal with them once and all and targeted primarily in the city's Leithi, Gwarsha and Sabri districts.

"A military solution is not a viable option in Libya", UNSMIL said, noting that already too many civilians had been killed or maimed, more than 100,000 displaced and areas reduced to rubble in the battle for Benghazi. The latest air offensive would merely add to residents' suffering, it added.

"Whether in Benghazi or elsewhere in the country, armed hostilities have shown time and again that they can only bring destruction and suffering for the Libyan people."

The Arclight airstrikes, it claimed, were "a clear attempt to undermine and derail the on-going efforts to end the conflict at a time when the negotiations have entered a final and most critical stage."

Demanding for an immediate ceasefire in the city, UNSMIL also called on key figures who support the Dialogue to use their influence to de-escalate the military situation.

There was no mention in the statement, however, of the actions of IS, Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
or the other krazed killer groups who brought violence to Benghazi and tried to take it over by force.

There has been no condemnation either from UNSMIL of Thursday's attack on the General National Congress which was specifically aimed at undermining the Dialogue process.

In a separate joint statement, ambassadors and diplomats from a number of countries present at Skhirat also condemned the rise in hostilities in Libya, including that they said were "air strikes against civilian population in Benghazi".

Qaddafi exiles set up new political group
Splitters!
[Libya Herald] A new political organization, named the Nidal ("struggle") Front, has been launched in Cairo by Libyan emigrés, mainly former members of the Qadaffy regime. Officially led by the former Libyan ambassador to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Mohammed Saeed Algashatt, the organization is believed to be the brainchild of Ahmed Qaddaf Al-Dam, the dictator's cousin who is now based in the Egyptian capital.

He is a member of its "central committee", a term redolent of the Qadaffy era, despite the organization's claims to want to build a new, inclusive Libya.

Claiming that the country lived in harmony with the rest of the world until foreigners (it specifically mentions French intellectual Bernard-Henri Lévy), "foreign greed" and traitors caused the 2011 revolution, it says it wants a civil, democratic and prosperous state.

The groups says national reconciliation is essential and proposes a truth-and-reconciliation system, a general amnesty for "all the consequences of the civil war and the re-establishment of the army and police. It also says it rejects terrorism, extremism, and violence. In particular, it wants to "confront groups that take religion as a screen to impose its dominance by violence and force the people to adopt its views" -- seen as a reference to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....

and associated Islamist myrmidons.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
it also strikes an Islamist note, saying that Sharia law should have a decisive role in Libya. Nothing that contradicts it, the organization says, should be allowed in Libya.

Africa Subsaharan
Message said to be from Boko Haram leader attacks Nigerian army
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A new audio message purportedly from Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
leader Abubakar Shekau calls the Nigerian army liars for saying troops have regained territory from the krazed killer Islamist group.

Nigeria's military said on Friday it had recaptured villages and rescued 90 people in a process that involved the "continuous elimination" of the group from Nigerian territory.

"They have lied about us saying that they retaken our territories, taken weapons and driven us away," says the recording posted online.

"They are actually the ones whom we have driven away. They are all liars."

Rooters could not independently verify the authenticity of the audio message. The Twitter feed of jihad monitoring site Site Intelligence said the Hausa language audio message was released by Shekau on Saturday.

Boko Haram has been fighting for six years to set up a state adhering to strict Islamic laws and at the start of 2015 controlled vast swathes of territory across three states in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
.

Nigeria's army, aided by troops from Chad, Niger and Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, said it pushed Boko Haram out of most of the territory earlier this year.

Suspected members of Boko Haram have killed around 800 people in Africa's most populous nation in a spate of bombings and shootings since President Muhammadu Buhari was inaugurated as president on May 29, according to a Rooters tally.

In the recording, Shekau appeared to make references to Buhari's visits to U.S. President Barack Obama
teachable moment...
and French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
in July and September respectively.

"Buhari, you are yet to finish spending Obama's money. The business you are doing with the money is not over yet because I am here alive. Your business with Francois Hollande is not yet complete because I am still alive," he said.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Reports: Russian troops refusing deployment to Syria
[Ynet] Russian media outlet interviews group of soldiers who refused to be deployed to Syria, describing secretive preparations and their fears: 'We don't want to die there.'

As Russian expands its military presence in Syria, a report was published on Saturday in Russian newspaper Gazeta.ru examining the transfer of weapons, equipment, and manpower from the Russian port city of Novorossiysk to Al Assad base in Syria, and quoting several soldiers who expressed their desire to stay away from the war-torn Middle Eastern country.

The paper interviewed a group of soldiers, mainly non commissioned troops, who refused to deploy to Syria due to their fear of ISIS. One of the soldiers, a lieutenant named Alexei, said, "We don't want to go Syria, we don't want to die there."

The group complained that the military had hid their destination from them. They were due to be shipped off on September 17, but 10 days later they were told they would be deployed to a hot region with a very different climate than what they were used to, and that there would be poisonous animals at the new place, but the specific region was not named.

The soldiers were surprised to receive new weapons and equipment with their serial numbers removed. The soldiers were also instructed on how to behave if they were captured.

Alex Tancher, an expert on Russian media, explained that President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
passed a law in recent months which banned the publication of names of soldiers killed in action. The law was passed as a result of the public outcry caused by the war in Ukraine. The outcry has been renewed by the soldiers who are being sent to Syria.

The Russian Defense Ministry declined to comment on the report.

Muslim demands Munich end '€˜anti-Islamic' Oktoberfest
[American Mirror] It was only a matter of time before the "refugees" pouring into Europe and their sympathizers would begin to impose their Islamic will.

Morad Almuradi, writing from the Netherlands, has created a petition on Change.org asking that the city council of Munich, Germany end the traditional 16-day Oktoberfest event.

He writes:

"Dear City council of Munich,

I am writing this letter to bring to your attention something that I and many Muslims believe is unfair and requires attention.

I would like to inform you that the Oktoberfest is an Intolerant and Anti-Islamic event. We tried to ignore the event, but there too many Un-Islamic acts done at the Oktoberfest. Such as alcohol consumption, public nudity etc."

Anti-migrant demo in Finland over refugee influx
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Several dozen demonstrators formed a "human wall" and briefly blocked a border point in a northern Finnish town Saturday in protest at a dramatic spike in the number of asylum seekers crossing over from Sweden, a local official said.

Waving Finnish flags, protesters "from the extreme-right" formed a line in Tornio urging refugees and migrants to stay away, said local councillor Peter Waara from the adjacent Swedish town of Haparanda, where a counter-demonstration took place.

Both rallies had dispersed peacefully by the end of the morning.

Finland expects a total of 25,000 to 30,000 asylum seekers this year, seven to eight times as many as in 2014.

The Finnish government on Thursday said it would step up controls at the border with Sweden following a spike in mostly Iraqi asylum seekers, many of whom had simply walked into Tornio from Haparanda after arriving in Sweden.

Up to 800 people entered Tornio on Friday alone, the largest number of refugees to arrive in the country on a single day since the Russian Revolution, according to figures from the Red Thingy cited on Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

Authorities are set to open a registration office for asylum seekers at a disused high school in the town on Tuesday.

Syrian refugees lured to Europe by a cheaper route and false stories
[Rudaw] Europe is caught in a crisis it cannot contain. After years of discouraging and strict asylum laws, refugees are now traveling there by the thousands.
The asylum laws are not strict. It takes the Euros 1 to 3 years to judge an asylum request. In the meantime you get benefits and housing. That is not strict.
They want to get away from war, but at the same time they are misinformed. When I spoke to Syrians wanting to leave the relative safety of Iraqi Kurdistan, I found out they had misconceptions about the rules and regulations awaiting refugees in the EU. They had been told by those who had reached Europe that it will be easy, and that they will be provided with a house and a job.
Plus they'll be in the vanguard of the Islamic revolution in Europe...
I spoke to a Syrian mother who had taken her 6-year-old daughter with her on a boat from Bodrum in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to the Greek Island of Kos, before stepping for fear of drowning. I asked her how she could risk splitting the family by leaving her husband and son behind. She was convinced that they would be allowed to join her in a couple of months and that the authorities would even pay for their ticket.

Turkey set to recruit 5,000 village guards in anti-terror fight

will recruit 5,000 village guards, Interior Minister Selami Altinok announced Sept. 19, amid an upsurge in violence between the state and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Altinok said the guards would be deployed to 22 provinces in the eastern and southeastern areas of the country, where Turkish security forces' fight against the PKK has intensified since late July.

Turkey currently employs 46,000 village guards under a system established in the 1980s, according to the Federation of Provisional Village Guards.

"The Republic of Turkey can eliminate this trouble and is determined to tackle it," Altinok said at a veterans' lunch in the Central Anatolian province of Aksaray. "The fight against terrorism will be maintained in a determined way until the terrorist organization PKK lays down its arms. With the instructions of Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, we are set to start hiring almost 5,000 village guards in the 22 eastern and southeastern provinces to be more effective in the guard system."

Turkey's president, masses condemn terrorist attacks
[Hurriyet Daily News] Hundreds of thousands of people protested recent terrorism incidents, with Turkish prime minister calling on people to vote for his party and the president demanding 550 seats for one party in a rally in Istanbul's Yenikapi Square on Sept. 20.

"We will not show mercy to terror and terrorists, we will enter their caves and chase them. The life of a martyr cannot be compared to anything. But I have one demand from you. I want you to make a historic effort for the Nov. 1 [election]," President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said.

"Send 550 domestic and national deputies on Nov. 1 elections. You know what I mean," said Erdogan.

The rally titled "The single voice of millions against terror" started at Yenikapi at 4 p.m. on Sept. 20, a couple of hours before rally participants came to the area with Turkish flags they were handed at the entry to the area.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu conducted the first speech at the rally. He said the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) had stopped a planned withdrawal after the Gezi protests.

Hearing the slogan of "We don't want the PKK in the parliament," Davutoglu said: "Then you will work hard for the Nov. 1 [election] and leave them under the [election] threshold. You will make the AKP [Justice and Development Party] the single-party government once again," referring to the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), which is focused on the Kurdish issue.

Davutoglu also said security forces would continue their operations to keep security tight. "We will continue peace operations and take election security ahead of the Nov. 1 elections," said Davutoglu.

Home Front: WoT
Kerry: US to accept 85,000 refugees in 2016, 100,000 in 2017
[WASHINGTONPOST] Scrambling to address a growing Syrian refugee crisis, U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
announced Sunday that the United States would significantly increase the number of worldwide migrants it takes in over the next two years, though not by nearly the amount many activists and former officials have urged.

The U.S. will accept 85,000 refugees from around the world next year, up from 70,000, and that total would rise to 100,000 in 2017, Kerry said at news conference with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier after they discussed the mass migration of Syrians fleeing their civil war.
In January 2017 President Obama will retire, and someone new will be sworn in. That someone will not be obligated to execute what was merely an executive order, not a law passed by both Houses of Congress.
Many, though not all, of the additional refugees would be Syrian, American officials have said. Others would come from strife-torn areas of Africa. The White House had previously announced it intended to take in 10,000 additional Syrian refugees over the next year.

Asked why the U.S. couldn't take more, Kerry cited post-Sept. 11 screening requirements and a lack of money made available by Congress.

"We're doing what we know we can manage immediately," he said, adding that the U.S. cannot take shortcuts on security checks.

U.S. politicians immediately expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s about the potential influx.

The Islamic State

group and other terrorist organizations "have made it abundantly clear that they will use the refugee crisis to try to enter the United States. Now the B.O. regime wants to bring in an additional 10,000 Syrians without a concrete and foolproof plan to ensure that gunnies won't be able to enter the country," said U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va.

Hamas demands end to Egypt border crackdown
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers are calling on Egypt to halt a project aimed at destroying the last remaining smuggling tunnels along the border.
"Youse guys are endangering our meal ticket!"
The project is being billed as an Egyptian military-operated fish farm that would effectively fill the border area with water. Egyptian military officials have said the fish farm is designed to shut down tunnels used to bring in hard boyz and weapons.

Hamas has said that the project further isolates the Gazoo Strip, which has been under an Israeli and Egyptian blockade since the Lion of Islam group seized power in 2007. Hamas said Sunday the project "represents a great danger" to homes on the Paleostinian side and to groundwater.
Yes. Perhaps y'all should not have made the Egyptians mad.
Last week smugglers said a tunnel collapsed after it was flooded. There was no immediate comment from Egyptian officials.
But back at headquarters it was toasts and high fives all around at the news.

Palestinian officers disciplined after video of beating
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Paleostinian security forces disciplined eight officers on Sunday after the clubbing of a teenage boy by security forces was caught on video.

The security forces were preventing dozens of protesters from reaching an Israeli checkpoint near the West Bank city of Bethlehem on Friday. The video showed protesters throwing stones and bottles and then several officers beating the boy.

The National Security Forces said that four senior commanders were suspended from their duties and will face "disciplinary measures." Another four officers were sentenced to three months in prison.

The beating video circulated widely on social media and sparked criticism of the Paleostinian leadership and demands to punish the officers. On Sunday, dozens of protesters gathered outside the security forces' station in Bethlehem and threw stones, injuring nine officers, according to the security force.

Paleostinian security forces have limited powers in the West Bank but are often tasked with holding protesters at bay in areas where they operate.
Ynet has the video here, and additional information about the youth:
The images prompted a media storm among the Paleostinians. "Two weeks ago there was a big and very violent fight between families here," a resident of Bethlehem said to ynet. "We didn't see such a dedicated response to end that fight, like the actions we saw yesterday, when they beat the poor young man," the man concluded.

Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, was quick to use the images to attack the Paleostinian security forces, which tried to prevent the youths from clashing with the IDF forces.

The young Paleostinian man seen in the video is Mohammed Hamamra (17), a resident of the town of Bet Sahur near Bethlehem. His father is an officer in the Paleostinian police.

As a result of the event and the ensuing media storm, a decision was made to hold a "sulcha" (a reconciliation or mediation common in Arab society) between the police and the Hamamra family, but even this did not put an end to the anger caused by the video on the Paleostinian street.

PM: Israel, Russia establish 'mechanism' to prevent 'misunderstandings' in Syria
Israel and Russia agreed to a create mechanism to prevent accidental confrontation between their forces in Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said following a meeting on the outskirts of Moscow Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Netanyahu, in a phone briefing with Israeli diplomatic reporters, said that the meeting was devoted to the complicated situation on Israel's northern border.

"I made clear our policy to try to prevent through various means the transfer of lethal weapons from Syria to Hezbollah, which is actually done at the direction of Iran," Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu said that the purpose of the meeting was to prevent "misunderstandings" between IDF and Russian forces. "We established a mechanism to prevent those misunderstandings," he said, without elaborating. "This is something very important for Israel's security.

75 U.S.-trained Syrian rebels enter Syria from Turkey
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Seventy five Syrian rebels trained by the United States and its allies to fight ISIS have entered northern Syria since Friday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday.

Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Observatory, said the rebels had crossed into Syria from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
with 12 vehicles equipped with machine guns.

A top U.S. general told Congress on Wednesday that only four or five Syrian rebels trained under the programme aimed at fighting ISIS were still fighting in Syria.

The U.S. military began training in May for up to 5,400 fighters a year, in what was seen as a test of President Barack Obama

An Nahar adds:
He said the group had entered in a convoy of a dozen cars with light weapons and ammunition, under air cover from the U.S.-led coalition that has been carrying out strikes against the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.

According to the Observatory, the rebels crossed through the Bab al-Salama border point, the main gateway for fighters and supplies heading into Aleppo province. That supply route has been increasingly targeted by IS jihadists seeking to cut off support to rival rebels.

Abdel Rahman said the newly-trained fighters have deployed to support two U.S.-backed units, with most assigned to Division 30 -- the main unit for U.S.-trained fighters -- and others to a group called Suqur al-Jabal (Falcons of the Mountain).

The $500 million U.S. programme run out of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey has been fraught with problems, with than a dozen of those already deployed with Division 30 either killed or kidnapped by Al-Qaeda's Syria affiliate, Al-Nusra Front.
