[HotAir] Next month will mark the end of an era in San Francisco as the city's sole remaining gun shop closes its doors. High Bridge Arms has been in business at the same location since the 1950s, but with the next round of city regulations and restrictions on gun dealers (which means just High Bridge) the city fathers have found the straw required to break the camel's back. It's a glorious day for liberals.
Business for the last gun shop in the city of 840,000 has been good, according to Alcairo, especially since the store, which caters to law enforcement and outdoors enthusiasts, announced it would close next month.
Situated in the prominent city heart of Mission Street, High Bridge Arms was founded in the mid-1950s by Bob Chow, who competed in the 1948 Olympics 25-yard pistol shooting event. By some accounts a Bay Area institution, it has long been a tourist destination -- specially for members of the law enforcement community who visit the city.
"I found the staff to be friendly, decent, law-abiding people who have been harassed by the San Francisco anti-gun crowd for quite some time," Jim Wilson, a retired sheriff from Alpine, Texas, told FoxNews.com as he recalled stopping by the shop during a visit to San Francisco a few years back.
The new city laws were so far over the top that it's difficult to imagine them surviving a court challenge, but the owners apparently don't feel like converting their entire operation into little more than a legal defense fund to keep fighting the liberal legislature. They were going to force them to record videos of every customer in the store and keep those videos available permanently. The personal information of every customer would have to be turned over to the police department each and every week even if there wasn't a hint of an allegation that any crime had taken place. In short, the rules were designed to force the shop to harass their own customers mercilessly to the point where no reasonable person would want to shop there anyway.

And you wonder why they were so swiftly ratified in the first years of the old republic. The founders knew of the behavior of man over thousands of years of record, formerly known as history.
[American Thinker] Recently, Phillip Rucker of the Washington Post asked readers if Republicans and Democrats are talking about the same country, and proceeded to provide evidence that they may not be.
This is, of course, a wildly asinine question to ask. The fact that it is even being posed as relevant inquiry signifies both the rudimentary nature of current political discourse in mainstream venues and the disrespect that mainstream pundits have for American audiences' intellect.
Have Rucker and the other tuned-in media pundits asking such lofty questions just not been listening or paying attention, or do they assume that we haven't been doing so? Barack Obama answered his question just days before his election back in 2008: "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America." His wife Michelle was even more forthright. "We are going to have to change our conversation," she said. "[W]e're going to have to change our traditions, our history; we're going to have to move into a different place as a nation."
Not sure how the clever pundits could miss this, but when you have one faction outwardly professing a desire to transform our nation into something entirely new, while another faction outwardly professes to either retain our identity, or return our identity to something it was once before, the simple answer to Rucker's question is: No. Republicans and Democrats are not currently talking about the same nation, and the paths sought by each have very little in common.
The United States Constitution is, without question, a document which secures the rights of self-governance among the States and the People, while bestowing minimal authority upon the federal government to oversee very specific elements of governance.
[Breitbart] Erik Prince, founder of the famed private military contractor Blackwater, addressed the Bush-linked Maverick PAC on Friday night. His remarks, as transcribed by the Daily Beast, were provocative. He thought his old outfit could have handled the menace of the Islamic State effectively:
"It's a shame the [Obama] administration crushed my old business, because as a private organization, we could've solved the boots-on-the-ground issue, we could have had contracts from people that want to go there as contractors; you don't have the argument of U.S. active duty going back in there," Prince said in an on-stage discussion featuring retired four-star Gen. James Conway. "[They could have] gone in there and done it, and be done, and not have a long, protracted political mess that I predict will ensue."
As the Daily Beast explains, Blackwater was "crushed" after the Obama administration cut its government contracts, in part due to a history that included "Blackwater guards gunning down 17 civilians in Baghdad" during the Bush administration. Prince feels he and his company were treated unfairly and has vowed not to accept any more government work.
[PJMedia] Akbar Ahmed, the chair of Islamic studies at American University, has advised many government officials, including General Petraeus, Richard Holbrooke, and George W. Bush. He speaks regularly on BBC and CNN, and has appeared on many U.S. shows, including Oprah and Nightline.
To oppose the "burn the Quran" event planned by Pastor Terry Jones, Ahmed wrote an editorial for CNN in which he stated:
Not only are the actions of Jones contrary to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, but they are also against the ideals of the American Founding Fathers.
The Founding Fathers read and honored the same Quran that Jones is now seeking to burn.
[John Adams, America's second president] showed the utmost respect for Islam, naming the Prophet Mohammed as one of the greatest truth seekers in history.
These statements are utterly opposed by the facts.
John Adams said absolutely nothing of the kind. Correspondence from John Adams to Thomas Jefferson on July 16, 1814, reveals John Adams' true feelings about Islam: Adams states that Mohammed is "a military fanatic" who "denies that laws were made for him; he arrogates everything to himself by force of arms."

There was a time when the United States could count on safe and secure air bases from which it could leisurely deploy warplanes to deter an enemy or launch an air campaign. No longer. Potential enemies -- China, in particular -- possess long-range missiles that could pepper an airfield with bomblets and wipe out huge portions of America's air power.

"This led to a reduced emphasis on air base defense measures and the misperception that sanctuary was the normal state of affairs rather than an aberration."
The emergence of the long-range, highly accurate, conventional missile (both ballistic and cruise) as a threat to air bases is now widely recognized in the U.S. defense community, and, with that recognition, there is a growing appreciation that this era of sanctuary is coming to an end. Consequently, there is renewed interest in neglected topics, such as base hardening, aircraft dispersal, camouflage, deception, and air base recovery and repair.

Jarrett is such a perfect amalgamation of Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama, it's somewhat baffling that Democrats have made no effort to draft her for 2016. Consider her credentials:

- Iranian-born
- Woman (single)
- Would make history
- Stanford University grad
- Ties to Obama regime, would continue the Obama-Jarrett legacy
- Extraordinarily young (58) compared to Hillary (67), Biden (72), and Sanders (74)
- Is a real person, has more personality than Hillary, but not in a creepy way like Biden
- Brains behind the Obama administration's foreign policy
- Ready for primetime television
- Sufficiently self-important to be president (demanded full-time secret service detail)
- No email scandal (that we know of)
- Way more liberal than Hillary
- Didn't quit her job early like Hillary
- Almost as rich as Hillary
Jarrett has all of Hillary's positive attributes (female gender, experience) and everything that Biden lacks (female gender, historic nature of candidacy). She is the perfect alternative, and could help inject some enthusiasm into an otherwise pathetic Democratic field.
No longer co-puppet master with John Brennan, imagine the free time she'd have to devote to the job !
Marian Robinson's West Wing bedroom and study could be turned into a prayer room and mini-mosque, or Muslim Brotherhood field office.

During Pope Francis's parade in Washington, 5-year-old Sophie Cruz suddenly dashed up to the popemobile and handed His Holiness a note about the wretched plight of her illegal-alien parents from Los Angeles, who are apparently terrified of all the recent talk about deportations. The media loved the spontaneity and courage of 5-year-old Sophie.
But that was not quite the whole story.
...Recently, social media created a victim-hero out of 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, whose plight with local school authorities earned him global commiseration -- and invitations to visit almost everyone from Barack Obama in the White House and Mark Zuckerberg at Facebook to the United Nations. How did teenager Ahmed become an international celebrity?
He supposedly spontaneously brought a "clock" to school that he had built from scratch. Soon after, Ahmed was alleged by his supposedly dim-witted school to have instead brought in something that appeared to look like, or perhaps even sound like, a bomb. After questioning, the young Edison was expelled -- purportedly because he was presumed guilty as a son of Sudanese immigrants and a Muslim. Was Ahmed another innocent child victimized by the oppressive forces of traditional racist America?
Again, hardly. Almost everything that Ahmed and his family have alleged is being proved first fantasy, and, second, a likely set-up.
...The fact that so often charges of religious prejudice, racism, and sexism under scrutiny break down and prove melodramatic, if not outright fabrications, suggests that there is a perception by the victims, at least, that there are not quite enough naturally occurring bigots to go around without having to invent some. Even the vociferous Trump apparently cannot provide enough religious intolerance without being lured into more.
There are careerist advantages to becoming a victim of religious, racial, or sexual prejudice.. Ahmed Mohamed is now a global rock star; Mattress Girl is a leftist icon. No one much cares that "hands up; don't shoot" was a complete myth.
Note that the constructed crimes are always committed against the supposed victims of race and class intolerance.. A white kid two years ago played with his food to concoct something that was felt to resemble a gun -- and thereby earned an unwarranted school suspension. Yet the White House did not invited the seven-year-old boy for a visit either to honor his artistic talents or to commiserate with him over the intolerance of local school officials.
