Somali troop carry out mine-clearance near Adan Yabal
[ShabelleMedia] Somali Govt troops began military movements following the capture of the Adan Yabal, which lies 245 km north of Mogadishu, the country’s capital.

Speaking to the state media, SNA boss Gen Odowa Yusuf said the soldiers started landmine clearance operations in the town to avert possible blasts that could harm local residents.

The latest operation was conducted in al-Khowthar village, where the troops dislodged al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
from their bases this week without encountering resistance.

The operation in the Middle Shabelle region bears fruits as the army gains more ground from al-Shabaab, which is part of a larger offensive against the krazed killers.

#2  Supply & Demand Economics:

Not to insult anyone's intelligence, but if supply increases and demand stays the same, prices will fall. If supply remains constant and demand decreases, prices will fall. The 'experts' can't fathom those concepts. The Wharton School doesn't teach it.

#7  #2: I always find it "cute" when socialists/communists/"democrats" feign not to understand supply and demand curves. They feign ignorance when issuing economic decrees that fly in the face of classic economics, YET to a man they understand that releasing oil from the strategic reserve (an example of INCREASING SUPPLY) will most certainly have a short term impact of reducing price.

It SLAYS ME that we don't call them on their hypocrisy. If they KNOW that supply and demand curves work in a crisis, then they KNOW that supply and demand curves WORK!

Turkish court sentences Istanbul mayor to nearly three years
[Rudaw] A Ottoman Turkish court on Wednesday sentenced Ekrem Imamoglu, opposition politician and Istanbul mayor, to nearly three years and imposed a political ban on him for allegedly insulting a member of the electoral commission in 2019.

Imamoglu was charged with "insulting a public official" by the court and sentenced to two years, seven months and 15 days. It also barred him from politics, reported Ottoman Turkish media.

Imamoglu, candidate of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) was elected as the mayor of Istanbul in 2019. This was the first time that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) lost in the commercial capital in 25 years.

A large number of Imamoglu’s supporters and politicians gathered in Istanbul late Wednesday to express support for the politician following a call from him.

The mayor’s legal team have announced that they will appeal the court decision.

Opposition leaders condemned the ruling, expressing support for Imamoglu who has been seen as President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

SECNAV Names Next Big Deck Amphib USS Fallujah
[Shafaq News] Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro named a future landing helicopter assault ship after the first and second Battle of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
the Navy announced Tuesday.

LHA-9, an America-class amphibious assault ship, will be called USS Fallujah, the Navy said in a news release. Del Toro announced the name at a promotion ceremony for Private 1st Class Chesty, the Marine Corps bulldog mascot.

"The name selection follows the tradition of naming amphibious ships after the U.S. Marine Corps battles, early U.S. sailing ships or legacy names of earlier carriers from World War II," Del Toro said during the announcement. "It is an honor for me for our nation to memorialize the Marines, the soldiers and coalition forces that fought valiantly and those who sacrificed their lives during both battles of Fallujah."

The two battles of Fallujah were fought in 2004 during the Iraq War. The first, occurring in April, was an effort to kill or capture snuffies thought to be responsible for the deaths of four U.S. contractors. The second, in November and December, was a U.S. attempt to retake control of Fallujah, according to the Navy announcement.

The Fallujah battles were part of Operation Phantom Fury, thought to be the bloodiest engagement of the Iraq War, with 100 coalition forces killed and another 600 injured.

The operation is also considered the "fiercest urban combat" for Marines since the Battle of Hué City in the Vietnam War. That battle lent its name to the former Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Hué City (CG-66), which was decommissioned in September after 31 years in service.

Fallujah’s sponsor will be Donna Berger, the wife of Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger.

"Under extraordinary odds, the Marines prevailed against a determined enemy who enjoyed all the advantages of defending in an urban area," Berger said in the statement. "The Battle of Fallujah is, and will remain, imprinted in the minds of all Marines and serves as a reminder to our Nation, and its foes, why our Marines call themselves the world’s finest."

The Navy awarded HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding the $2.4 billion contract to build LHA-9 in October. Ingalls is also building future USS Bougainville (LHA-8).

Fallujah will be the fourth America-class landing helicopter assault ship. The future USS Bougainville (LHA-8) is currently under construction at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss

La Belle Francesca Albanese, an Italian lawyer, was appointed earlier this year as the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights

in the Paleostinian territories. The rapporteur is an independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council tasked with investigating human rights in Paleostinian areas, publishing public reports and working with governments and other groups on the issue.
Note: doesn't say anything about "neutral"
Albanese, who now says she regrets the "Jewish lobby" remark, has long been a harsh critic of Israel, and the Israeli mission to the UN in Geneva formally objected to her appointment, arguing that she harbors significant bias against the Jewish state.

A review of her past social media posts, media appearances and talks with activist muppet groups found that aside from inveighing against a "Jewish lobby," she has also sympathized with terror organizations, dismissed Israeli security concerns, compared Israelis to Nazis and accused the Jewish state of potential war crimes.

Then, as now, she refers to Israel as a settler-colonial enterprise and to Jews in Israel and the pre-state British mandate as foreign interlopers subjugating an indigenous Paleostinian population. In her first official report to the UN this year, she urged a rejection of the conflict paradigm, describing Israel solely as an oppressor and legitimizing Paleostinian "resistance." She rarely acknowledges Paleostinian terrorism.

UN removes Iran from women's rights body over protest crackdown
[Rudaw] The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
on Wednesday voted to remove Iran
...They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
from a women's rights body over Tehran's brutal crackdown of women-led protests.

Following a campaign led by the United States, 29 members of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) voted to expel the Islamic republic from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) for the remainder of its 2022-2026 term.

Eight countries voted against and 16 abstained. A simple majority was needed to adopt the move, which had been proposed by the United States.

The resolution says it strips Iran of its membership of the commission with immediate effect.

The commission is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.

In early November, Vice President Kámala Harris
Former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's former mistress, then a senatrix from California, and then a former 2020 Dem presidential hopeful. She dropped out because she was polling in negative numbers because of racism or misogyny or something like that. Her father is a Marxist professor emeritus at Stanford and her mother is an Indian of the Hindoo tribe. She is reputedly the proud descendant of a long line of women. Joe Biden picked her for her skin tone, feeling she could also bring in the Native American, women's, and bimbo votes. She's an outstanding exemplar of the Peter Principle, proudly displaying her level of competence in her handling of the Biden Border Surge
said the United States would work with other nations to oust Iran from the commission.

Former Secretary of State Crooked Hillary Clinton
...former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away. Politix is not one of her talents, but it's something she keeps trying to do...
had also campaigned for the move.

Opponents, including Russia and China, noted that Iran had been elected to the body and that expelling it set "a dangerous precedent."

Nations on the women's commission are elected by the UN Economic and Social Council, whose members in turn are voted on by the General Assembly.

Interactive map aims to show incidents of West Bank violence amid IDF operations
[IsraelTimes] US think tank launches site that provides visual explanation of military raids, festivities, and terror attacks over the past year

With the security situation in the West Bank deteriorating in recent months and frequent festivities between Israeli troops and Paleostinians, a Washington-based think tank is aiming to provide a full picture of the events with a new visual tool.

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) on Wednesday launched an interactive map that tracks individual incidents in the West Bank and Israel since March, when the Israel Defense Forces began a major crackdown following a series of terror attacks.

The site, say its authors, will record and provide accurate, unbiased information about the IDF’s operations, ensuing festivities and Paleostinian attacks on Israelis.

"Our goal is to show the uptick in violent mostly peaceful krazed killer activity in the West Bank, and that it’s not just isolated to Jenin and Nablus, but a lot of areas in the West Bank, and you can see how extensive the violence is," Joe Truzman, an FDD research analyst focused on Paleostinian terror groups, who is responsible for the map’s data, told The Times of Israel.

Truzman said the think tank picked the beginning of the IDF’s operation as a starting point for its recording activity, though violence in the West Bank constantly ebbs and flows.

The IDF launched its anti-terror offensive, mostly focused on the northern West Bank, in the spring to deal with a series of Paleostinian attacks that have left 31 people dead since the start of the year.

The operation has netted more than 2,500 arrests in near-nightly raids, and has left more than 165 Paleostinians dead, many of them — but not all — while carrying out attacks or during festivities with security forces.

"You hear about it in the news but we want to explain it visually so a reader can get a better understanding of what is happening. That’s our goal here, to show how extensive the festivities have been," Truzman said.

He said the data is sourced from official IDF statements, major media outlets, local outlets, and some local sources on social media. The sources, Truzman said, "are all available for people to look at. It’s not being pulled out of thin air."

He added that the site is constantly updated with new events.

FDD said it hopes the site will be used by both average readers who want to know more about the conflict, and international organizations or NGOs looking for organized data regarding the violence in the West Bank in the past year.

The FDD describes itself as a Washington-based "non-partisan research institute focusing on national security and foreign policy." It has been described as hawkish on issues related to Iran.

Hamas, celebrating its anniversary, brandishes gun of IDF soldier killed in 2014
[IsraelTimes] Terror group says window for return of slain soldiers’ bodies is closing as it issues various threats against the Jewish state

The Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terror group held a major rally in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip on Wednesday as it celebrated the 35th anniversary since its establishment while warning that the window of opportunity for the return of the bodies of slain Israeli soldiers it holds could soon close.

At the rally, a masked speaker brandished an assault rife he said belonged to slain Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin. Goldin and fellow soldier Oron Shaul were killed in Gaza in August 2014 during that year’s war between Israel and Hamas in the territory, and their bodies were then taken by Hamas forces and have been held by the group ever since.

Hamas also posted closeup photos of the weapon and its serial number, apparently as proof of identification.

Despite ongoing efforts by the soldiers’ families and a succession of prime ministers and unconfirmed reports of repeated attempts at negotiations, the bodies have not been repatriated. The group is also believed to be holding two Israeli citizens, Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayyed, who entered the Strip of their own accord and who are both presumed to be alive.

Hamas is believed to be demanding the release of a large number of Paleostinian prisoners in exchange for their return.

The leader of Hamas in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, confirmed at the rally that negotiations had taken place. He said that Israel had "limited time" to cut a deal or else negotiations would end and "Hamas would find another way to liberate our prisoners."

Hamas said in a statement on the gun pictures posted on Wednesday that "August 1, 2014 is a day that we remember well and that the leaders of the occupation and its soldiers remember well, even though they pretend to forget. That day they lost contact with the officer Hadar Goldin because he had been taken by triumphant heroes."

The statement went on to say the gun "was one of the spoils taken by Hamas fighters on that awesome day, so that it may be a sign of their army’s failure and a tally to be put up on our scoreboard."

Goldin was killed hours after the UN and the US brokered a 72-hour ceasefire between Israel and Hamas during the 49-day-long 2014 Gaza War.

One of Israel’s major war aims, largely achieved, was the neutralization of the sophisticated tunnel network in Gaza that included tunnels dug toward Israeli territory for infiltration attacks.

The fighting in the summer of 2014 claimed the lives of 67 Israeli soldiers and five Israeli civilians. On the other side, some 2,200 Paleostinians died, of whom 65% were civilians according to the UN, 36% according to the Israeli army.
As ‘tis said, “Don’t start nuthin’, won’t be nuthin’.” Or in the modern vernacular, FAFO. But Hamas did, and so they got to enjoy the consequences.
Wednesday’s events in Gazoo

marking the 35th anniversary of Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, were also the occasion for high-ranking members of the terror group to lash out at Israel and the Paleostinian Authority in the West Bank, which is run by the rival Fatah party. Sinwar accused the PA of helping Israel arrest some 300 Hamas members in the West Bank in recent weeks.

An arrest operation against suspected terror group members in the West Bank city of Jenin on Sunday resulted in the IDF shooting dead a 16-year-old Paleostinian girl, Jana Zakarna. The IDF has admitted that one of its soldiers likely fired the fatal bullet, and says the teen’s death was an accident.

Hamas’s Sinwar said, "The campaign of arrests in the West Bank indicates that the leadership of the security coordination is continuing down a dark tunnel."

Hamas members almost universally call Israel "the occupation" and often refer to the Fatah-led PA as "the security coordination."

Mutual interests in keeping a lid on unrest in the West Bank motivate Israel and the PA to maintain a coordination mechanism. A 2022 poll showed that 61% of Paleostinians in the West Bank are in favor of ending coordination.

Sinwar went on to draw battle lines with Fatah over the groups’ differing attitudes toward armed struggle.

"Hamas never disagreed with Fatah in terms of strategy when Fatah used to raise the banner of armed struggle, we disagreed about exactly how much score-settling [with Israel] there needed to be," Sinwar said.

In an interview last Wednesday, PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
affirmed his opposition to armed resistance — toeing what has been the party line since the late 1980s — but said he could change his mind in the future.

Elusive Hamas military chief calls on all groups to unite to liberate Palestine

[IsraelTimes] Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,’s military commander Muhammad Deif issues a rare statement to mark the 35th anniversary of the founding of the terror group, calling on all factions to unite to "liberate Paleostine."

"You won’t manage to oppress our people or eliminate our identity from our land," Deif tells Israelis in a recorded message.

"All the factions must unite for one great goal, the liberation of Paleostine," he says.

The elusive Hamas military wing leader Deif has been on Israel’s most-wanted list for over 25 years for his involvement in the planning and execution of a large number of terror attacks, including many bus bombings in years past. The Israeli military considers Deif to be a skilled field commander.

Israeli security services tried to kill Deif at least seven times over the years. The first such attempt took place in 2001, a second in 2002, costing him his eye, and a third a year later. Another strike was conducted in 2006 in which he was maimed, losing both of his legs and one arm.
They used to call him Stumpy, but now he’s just called Stubby.

#1  A bit of history:
Shortly after Hamas was founded in Gaza, in November 1988 a large gathering of Islamists occurred in the United States at the Oklahoma Convention Center. Sponsored by the Muslim Arab Youth Association (MAYA) for Palestine, the featured speaker was Sheikh Abdallah Azzam, the noted Afghan-Arab who made his home in Peshawar. [Later assasinated by order of Zawahiri.] Azzam was working to finish the task of creating an Islamist Afghanistan. MAYA served as a front for HAMAS whose charter was devoted to the extirpation of Israel. Azzam never visited America again, and MAYA split off with the Muslim Student Association doing much of its heavy lifting.

Hamas leader threatens Israel over ‘plans’ for Temple Mount
[IsraelTimes] Haniyeh says ’sword of Jerusalem’ will protect holy site amid Paleostinian concerns incoming police minister Ben Gvir will alter delicate status quo

The political leader of the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terrorist group, Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
, threatened retaliation on Tuesday to any changes to the status quo at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.

The esplanade is the holiest place for Jews as the site of the Biblical temples, while the al-Aqsa Mosque, which sits atop the mount, is the third-holiest place for Moslems, who believe that the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven from there.

"We will absolutely not permit the implementation of Zionist plans at the al-Aqsa Mosque or in Jerusalem more broadly," Haniyeh said in an address commemorating Hamas’s 35th anniversary.

"The sword of Jerusalem has not and will not be sheathed," he said.
"It may wear a condom for safety, but that's it!"
Hamas supporters refer to its latest major flareup with Israel in May 2021 as the "Sword of Jerusalem Battle." The terror group claims that the rockets it fired during that conflict were retaliation for Israeli security forces entering the al-Aqsa Mosque after Paleostinians threw stones and other objects at them.

Israel claimed illusory sovereignty over all of Jerusalem after its victory in the 1967 Six Day War, but allowed the Islamic Waqf, a Jordanian institution, to retain its administrative authority over the mount. Jews are allowed to visit the site, but not pray there, in a delicate status quo that has been slipping as some Jewish activist muppets push for expanded prayer rights.

Haniyeh’s comments come amid speculation that the appointment of far-right Otzma Yehudit party leader Itamar Ben Gvir to the position of national security minister might usher in policy changes that would allow Jews to pray in a more conspicuous manner at the site. Police have for decades enforced the Jewish prayer ban as a public security measure.

On Monday, Ben Gvir called for an end to the prayer restrictions, which he said constituted anti-Jewish "apartheid" at the holy site. During coalition-building negotiations, expected incoming prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the right-wing Likud party reportedly shot down an Otzma Yehudit proposal to change the status quo on the mount.

A poll in May found that 50 percent of Israeli Jews think Jews should be allowed to pray at the site. Three out of four respondents said they supported that view because Jewish prayer demonstrates Israeli illusory sovereignty.

Many rabbis, however, interpret Jewish law as prohibiting visits to the Temple Mount because visitors could tread on sacred ground. Israel’s Chief Sephardic rabbi, Yitzhak Yosef, condemned Ben Gvir’s periodic ascents as "blasphemy

Minor changes to the status quo at the holy site or even rumors of such changes have sparked violent mostly peaceful protests in the past, including contributing to last year’s war between Israel and Gazoo

terror groups. In 2017, a decision to place metal detectors and cameras at the compound following a deadly attack there sparked several days of angry protests and condemnation from Israel’s Moslem neighbors.

Hamas’s Haniyeh, an Islamist, said on Tuesday that "Hamas has made a compact with our people over the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque and has preserved the depth of the Islamic sense of connection to our Jerusalem and our al-Aqsa."

Haniyeh’s broadcast displayed the message "al-Aqsa in danger" and a Hamas logo prominently featuring the Dome of the Rock, located in the Mosque complex.

Vitriol from terrorist organizations like Hamas is often seen as fueling festivities in Jerusalem, like the ones in April that saw 160 Paleostinians maimed and Israeli security forces moving on the al-Aqsa complex.

‘Over 400 attacks prevented’ by IDF West Bank ops
[IsraelTimes] IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi referred to the IDF’s regular raids in the West Bank, saying hundreds of attacks have been prevented as a result of military operations.

"Unfortunately, we are unable to prevent all attacks. On a personal level it causes great pain and on a professional level, it’s a failure," Kohavi said.

"Over the past year, we prevented over 400 attacks together with the Shin Bet and the security forces, which allows the citizens of the country to live in peace and get stuck in traffic jams. This is a sign of a healthy society," Kohavi said.

The military said Wednesday morning that it had detained 15 people in overnight raids in the West Bank and seized a number of weapons.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian "Tiger Forces" - Intro & History of Implementation
[GreyDynamics] 1. Intro:

The 25th Special Mission Forces Division, more commonly known by its previous name “Tiger Forces,” is a special forces unit in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). In Arabic, the unit goes by the Quwwat al-Nimr. They serve as the shock troops of the Syrian regime, being present in almost every major offensive the SAA has launched in the decade-long civil war. The Tiger Forces are a “hot commodity for any government offensive” because of their high levels of training and flexibility. (Source)

They are commanded by Suheil al-Hassan: one of the most talented generals in the SAA, who has seen many successes against rebel forces throughout his career. He is reported as vastly preferring the Russians and principal backer over Iranians. The Tiger Forces and their commander have a rivalry with the more pro-Iranian traditional elite unit, the republican guard, which is commanded by Maher al-Assad, the president’s brother. (Source) With fighting resuming in part of Syria and the apparent deployment of some members of the Tiger Forces to Ukraine, they will increasingly play a role in Syria’s future.
Sections relating history, personnel, equipment, and key actions can be read at the link.
6. Summary

It is clear that the Tiger Forces under Suheil al-Hassan have played an instrumental role in the Syrian conflict. Being present at every major offensive regime forces have launched and had a large personnel count due to the old militia style organisation under the AFI. Furthermore, with the increasing number of Syrian fighters being located in Ukraine, it seems the Tiger Forces remain a fertile recruiting ground for the Wagner group. Indeed Suheil al-Hassan is a figure to watch in the future as he is a certified Alawite hero in the eyes of the government forces. In a regime which relies on a cult of personality around its president Bashar al-Assad, such fame and legend as “The Tiger” possesses can quickly become a curse.

Iran’s judiciary refutes claims of sentencing Oshnavieh protestors to death
[Rudaw] The Judiciary chief of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province on Wednesday refuted claims that six protestors from Oshanvieh had been sentenced to death.

"In Oshanvieh, no one has been sentenced to death in association with the riots," Nasser Atabati said, adding that Farhad and Farzad Tahazadeh, who had been arrested in association to the nationwide protests are yet to be tried.

The statement from Atabati comes after several rights groups and local sources earlier this week claimed that six people arrested in Oshnavieh in association with the protests had been sentenced to death in Urmia Revolutionary Court.

Among those who had allegedly been sentenced to death were brothers Farhad and Farzad Tahazadeh, which rumors that they would be executed on Wednesday morning had flooded the internet. In a video footage on Tuesday night, the two brothers’ mother pled to the internet to save her sons.

"For the love of God get to the aid of my sons, they are both innocent," she said. "They have been sentenced without a trial without any evidence, they have been tortured, my sons are young and their children are awaiting them."

Local media in Iran
...The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both...
reported that the two brothers had been accused of "muharaba", a term which means "waging war against God" under Islamic Sharia law, and their family were told not to try visiting them as there is nothing they could do against such accusations. The brothers were among dozens arrested amid a crackdown on protestors in September which also led to the killing of five protestors.

The lawyer of another death row detainee, Mahan Sadrat, on Wednesday said that their client’s death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
had been suspended and he had escaped, however the public relations department of Iran’s top court refuted such claims, saying that the sentence had been suspended temporarily until the court makes a final decision.

Sadrat was arrested in Tehran in October. Iran’s judiciary sentenced him to death on the grounds of being in possession of a knife during the protests, burning the cycle of violence of a security forces member, and intentionally wounding them. However on Sunday, one of the security forces who had raised the lawsuit against him said that he had forgiven him.

Another detained protestor on death row is Mohammad Mahdi Karami, who is a Kurd from Iran’s Kurdistan province. Karami was arrested by Iranian security forces during the protests marking the 40th day since the killing of protester Hadis Najafi. Accused of being involved in the killing of a member of Iran's Basij paramilitary force, Karami was sentenced to death for "muharaba" and threatening the country’s national security.

Karami’s father has claimed that the court had not accepted their choice of lawyer for their son, and has instead assigned a lawyer that does not even respond to their calls.

"I am hopeless, I have given up, my child is innocent, and he is an athlete not a murderer, they have told him about the sentence and they might execute him any moment," Mashallah Karami, Mahdi’s father told Iran’s reformist newspaper Itimad.

Following his death sentence, Mahdi had called his father and asked him to not inform his mother.

Iran carried out the second known execution linked to the protests on Monday. Majidreza Rahnavard, 23, was publicly hanged from a construction crane, serving as a gruesome example to other protesters.

Amnesia Amnesty International on Monday identified 20 people who stand the risk of being executed, 11 of which have been handed death sentences by Iranian courts, in connection to the protests.

Last week, Mohsen Shekari was hanged in the first execution over the protests that have swept through the country since the death of Zhina (Mahsa) Amini in September.

At least 493 protesters have been killed since the protests began almost three months ago, according to US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

Israel struck Iranian arms convoy along Syrian-Iraqi border in November - IDF chief
[JPost] Kohavi says IDF had "perfect intelligence" to hit "Truck Number 8" out of a 25 truck caravan.

Israel struck a convoy of trucks carrying Iranian weapons along the Syrian-Iraqi border last month, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi confirmed on Wednesday.

Without specifying the exact timing, it appeared clear that he was referring to an attack within Syria, next to the Iraqi border, which the Wall Street Journal and various other media outlets attributed to Israel in early November, but which Israel did not take responsibility for at the time.

According to reports at the time, the caravan was moving Iranian weapons, likely including powerful missiles, from Iraq to Syria, and around a dozen Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members and other Iranian-affiliated forces were killed.
The Times of Israel adds:
Kohavi said Israeli intelligence uncovered which truck within the 25-vehicle convoy was carrying weapons from Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
to Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...a strong argument in favor of European colonialism, even French colonialism...
, and "advanced capabilities" allowed the pilots to carry out a precision strike.

"We could have not been aware of the Syrian convoy a few weeks ago," Kohavi told a conference at the Reichman University in Herzliya.

"We could have not known that it was heading from Iraq to Syria, we could have not known what’s in it and we could have not known that out of the 25 trucks, truck number eight was the one carrying weapons," he said.

"We needed to send pilots to the right place and they had to evade surface-to-air missiles fired at them. They needed to attack, they needed to hit their targets and come back safely and not kill people who shouldn’t be killed. These are very advanced capabilities," said Kohavi.

The strike reportedly left 10 people dead, including an unknown number of Iranians.

At the time of the November incident, the Israeli army refused to comment, in line with its general policy to not confirm involvement in specific strikes in Syria. It wasn’t clear why Kohavi, who will end his term as military chief of staff next month, chose to acknowledge the IDF’s responsibility for the strike.

Israel has allegedly carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years, but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. It has acknowledged, however, that it targets arms shipments and posts of Iran-allied groups, such as Lebanon’s terrorist Hezbollah.

At the time, Hezbollah said it had nothing to do with the convoy that was attacked.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor of unclear funding, said the strike hit tanker trucks carrying fuel and other trucks carrying weapons for the militias in Syria’s eastern province of Deir el-Zour.

Most alleged Israeli strikes have been focused on areas of Syria closer to Damascus or the country’s center, though it has been accused of carrying out attacks outside that area as well, including in Deir el-Zour.
General Kohavi was feeling loquacious, according to An Nahar:
Israel prevented Iran from deploying 'hundreds of missiles' in Lebanon, Syria

Israeli army chief Aviv Kohavi on Wednesday announced that Israel has prevented Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
from deploying hundreds of missiles in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years. It produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. That's three statements. Only the first is subjective....
and Syria, while announcing that Israel was behind a Nov. 8 attack on an Iranian convoy that had entered Syria from Iraq.

"As a result of many years of activity, the Iranian vision -- which was supposed to include at this time hundreds of surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles in the Syrian and Lebanese arenas — has been completely disrupted," Kohavi said.

"It was supposed to include tens of thousands of snuffies -- at their peak there were indeed tens of thousands -- and a new Hezbollah organization in the south of the Golan Heights. These three things have been significantly disrupted... The level of deterrence against the Iranians has increased significantly," Kohavi added.
