Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Briefs December 21-23, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • FEMALE LED PROTESTS AGAINST UNIVERSITY BAN DISPERSED – Taliban security forces used another heavy-handed approach to breaking up the protests with beatings and some reports suggested vehicle-mounted water cannons were used to disperse crowds. Several arrests have been reported across the country. Condemnation against the policy has been nearly universal. Further protests are being planned and are expected to be met with violence. Several Pakistani and Indian news sites have quoted sources who say the Taliban leadership fears national protests on the scale of those in Iran and has quietly empowered local Taliban officials to put down protests swiftly.

  • DOWRIES ILLEGAL IN HELMAND – Officials in the Province have stated that dowries are considered illegal and those caught either giving or receiving them will be referred for prosecution. It is believed that several other Provinces are weighing similar measures to do away with the practice. It is currently unknown if anyone has been charged at this time and what punishments might be in the offing for a conviction.

  • REGIONAL ECONOMIC PROJECTS BEING RECONSIDERED – Several governments in the region who had been considering major commercial projects in the region have scheduled meetings over the next few weeks to reassess the plans in the wake of the ban on women’s University studies. A source in a country with a major project on the books has stated that the ban gives his country the ‘camouflage’ it needed to potentially back out of a deal. The source went on to say that sentiment among his country’s leaders had turned against the Taliban in its current form and that he wouldn’t be surprised to see several high-profile projects put on hold or canceled.

  • PAKISTAN CRACKS DOWN ON US DOLLAR SMUGGLING TO AFGHANISTAN – Several shipments of US dollars that had been packed inside crates of oranges have been interdicted since Pakistani officials were made aware of the scope of the problem last month. A recent report commissioned by the government stated that over 100 seizures have been made, totaling $4.2 million dollars. It was not clear if all the seizures involved US currency or other foreign currencies. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to stop the practice and a local source near Torkham Gate said that vehicle inspections have taken longer over the past month as a result.

NEXT 24 HOURS
RUMORS OF A COUP – Unverified reports have arrived that claim a coup may be underway in Kandahar. The unsubstantiated reports state that Mullah Yaqoub (Minister of Defense) and/or Sirajuddin Haqqani (Minister of the Interior) have or will attempt to oust the Supreme Leader and his group of advisors. Also, (reportedly) involved in the discussions were Mullah Baradar and Mullah Hasan Akhund. Apparently, the group has styled itself as the ‘moderate’ faction of the Taliban and feels compelled to take action after the stupendously inept edict barring women from attending Universities. There have been no reports of fighting and this information is not verified at this time. However, there is potential for either localized or widespread violence should such an action take place. Should inter-Taliban fighting begin, at-risk Afghans should immediately seek shelter and be prepared to stay in their homes. Coups are typically not protracted affairs, but we do not know how loyalties are divided among the Taliban at this point. It is also important to note that terrorist groups may seek to capitalize on the confusion and chaos of an internal dispute to launch potential attacks against religious or ethnic targets. Again, this information has yet to be verified and may simply be a rumor.

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • LATEST DECREE POLARIZES COUNTRY – While the Taliban have shown little interest in condemnation from the international community, it has consistently fretted over support from local leaders and 2022 saw several domestic missions by high-ranking Taliban leaders that were dispatched to the Provinces in order to quell potential resistance and assure local leaders of the IEA’s inviolability. However, many in Kabul say this latest move will put more pressure on local leaders than at any time previously and it could widen existing cracks.

  • NRF SEES PLEDGES OF SUPPORT AFTER TALIBAN DECREE ON WOMEN – Sources in the Resistance say their ranks will swell with new recruits this Spring after many have become disillusioned with the Taliban 2.0. Sources claimed the recent announcement that bars women from attending Universities has prompted many new potential recruits to contact Resistance members and commit to joining the group for the Spring campaign season. While some of the predictions seem far-fetched, most analysts seem to agree that they could double the numbers in their ranks to approximately 6,000 and they will likely be able to form cells in Provinces across the country.

  • POSSIBLE SECURITY THREAT IN MAZAR-I-SHARIF – Taliban security forces appear to be at an elevated security status in Mazar-i-Sharif. Taliban security vehicles were observed to be stationed across all districts of the city on Wednesday. Taliban security personnel have been congregating around the vehicles and the vehicles remained in their positions all day and into the night. It is not clear what threat may have prompted the deployment. Typically, Taliban vehicles congregate at the established checkpoints and conduct sporadic patrols throughout the city. The Taliban may be taking precautionary measures in anticipation of protests against the recent announcement regarding the ban on women attending Universities. We are attempting to verify that other cities across the country are seeing similar deployments.

  • FORMER PRESIDENT KARZAI RETURNS TO KABUL – His return puts to rest several rumors which stated that he had planned on fleeing the country.

  • THE SALANG PASS HAS REOPENED FOR SMALL VEHICLE TRAFFIC – Local officials are debating instituting new rules for commercial traffic that could involve inspections of safety equipment and/or establishing a schedule that would keep commercial traffic from traversing the tunnel while civilian traffic is present. A source with the emergency services who have been clearing the wreckage from the tunnel is concerned the tunnel was damaged from the intense heat and has requested a structural evaluation be completed prior to reopening but the advice appears to have been ignored by the Taliban.

NEXT 24 HOURS
TALIBAN DEPLOYMENT IN MAZAR-I-SHARIF — While there is no information concerning a possible threat, it is advisable to warn those at-risk Afghans in the city of the Taliban deployment and we recommend people remain indoors until the situation becomes clearer.

TTP LEADERSHIP WORKING OUT OF AFGHANISTAN – The confirmation that TTP terror operations are being directed from Pakistan has validated concerns voiced by regional leaders and some members of the international community who have continually claimed the leadership enjoyed protection from the Taliban. After the uprising in the Bannu detention facility, leaders from the Provincial government in Pakistan began negotiating with the TTP leadership in Afghanistan. The announcement places the Taliban in a difficult position with regard to continued denials by the regime about cross-border terrorism groups within their territory.

Afghan Women Dare Taliban Regime, Stage Street Protest Against University Ban
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

A small group of Afghan women on Thursday staged a defiant protest in Kabul against a Taliban
...Arabic for students...
order banning them from universities.

Some of the protesters were arrested, according to AFP.

The Taliban authorities had ordered a nationwide ban on university education for females. This is in line with the Islamists’ hardline approach to Afghan women's right to education and freedom.

Despite promising a softer rule when they seized power last year, the Taliban have ratcheted up restrictions on all aspects of women's lives, ignoring international outrage, AFP reports. In the latest move to restrict human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
in Afghanistan, the Taliban's minister for higher education on Tuesday ordered all public and private universities to bar women from attending.

"They expelled women from universities. Oh, the respected people, support, support. Rights for everyone or no one!" chanted the protesters as they rallied in a Kabul neighbourhood, footage obtained by AFP showed.

The women and girls who protested on the streets of Kabul against the decree reportedly chanted —"Either for everyone or for no one. One for all, all for one," Shabnam Nasimi, former Policy Special Advisor to Minister for Afghan Resettlement & Minister for Refugees, tweeted on Thursday.

"Taliban reportedly kicked out women & girls from a library in Kabul today. They have nowhere else to go other than stay imprisoned at home," Nasimi also tweeted.

In one of the videos Nasimi posted on Twitter, she translated some of the things said by the protesters as: "For the crime of learning, they threw us out of university. Oh honourable countrymen, please support us. Countrymen, countrymen, come break your silence."

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
a protester at the rally told AFP that "some of the girls" had been arrested by women coppers. Two were released, but several remained in jug, she added, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
Around two dozen women dressed in hijabs, some wearing masks, could be seen raising their hands and chanting slogans as they marched through the streets.

Women-led protests have become increasingly rare in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over the country last August, after the detention of core activist muppets at the start of the year. Participants risk arrest, violence and social stigma for taking part.

The women had initially planned to gather in front of Kabul University, the country's biggest and most prestigious educational institution, but changed locations after the authorities deployed a large number of security personnel there.

Tuesday's late-night announcement triggered international outrage, with the United States, the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
and several Moslem nations denouncing it.

The ban caused disbelief, coming less than three months after thousands were allowed to sit for university entrance exams.

"Afghan girls are dead people, they are crying blood," said Wahida Wahid Durani, a journalism student at the University of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, who was not at the protest.

"They are using all their force against us. I'm afraid that soon they will announce that women are not allowed to breathe."

Since seizing power, the Taliban have imposed many restrictions on women. Most teenage girls are barred from secondary school, women have been pushed out of many government jobs, prevented from travelling without a male relative and ordered to cover up outside of the home, ideally with a burqa. They are also not allowed to enter parks or gardens.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty adds:
Taliban security forces have used violence and arrested several people as they dispersed a protest by Afghan women against a ruling that bans female students from universities.
Unexpectedly.
Afghanistan's Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
announced the decision to forbid women from universities late on December 20 in a letter from the Islamist group's education ministry to higher education institutions, drawing immediate condemnation from the international community and the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
A group of some 50 women dressed in hijabs, some wearing masks, gathered in the capital, Kabul, on December 22 for a peaceful protest march against the move, chanting slogans against the ban, but were attacked and dispersed by Taliban security forces, participants and witnesses told RFE/RL.

The participants intended to gather outside Kabul University, Afghanistan's largest and most prestigious higher education institution, but switched to a different location after a large number of security forces members were deployed there.

One of the women who attended the march, Basira, told RFE/RL that security forces beat some of the participants and took them away, while others managed to escape. A number of journalists covering the protest have been reportedly detained, too.

"Unfortunately, the Taliban turned our protest into violence once again," she told RFE/RL.

She said she did not know the total number of women who were arrested, but said one woman she knows, Zahra Mandaj, was arrested with four others. Basira said she and others avoided arrest by running into houses whose occupants had opened their doors.

Another participant, Shahla Arefi, told RFE/RL that plainclothes female members of the security forces had infiltrated the march and immobilized some protesters who attempted to run when armed Taliban men appeared.

Taliban authorities have not commented on the incident, but the Taliban-led government's minister of higher education defended the decision to ban women from universities.

Nida Mohammad Nadim said in an interview with Afghan television that the ban was necessary to prevent the mixing of genders at universities and because he believes some subjects being taught violated the principles of Islam. He also said female students had ignored Islamic instructions, including on what to wear, and had failed to be accompanied by a male relative when traveling.

"They were dressing like they were going to a wedding. Those girls who were coming to universities from home were also not following instructions on hijab," he said.

The ban is in place until further notice, he added.

Nadim also pushed back against international condemnation of the ban and said foreigners should stop interfering in Afghanistan's internal affairs.

Inside Afghanistan, where cricket is a hugely popular sport, several cricketers have also condemned the move, while some male students at the medical school of Nangarhar University, in eastern Afghanistan, refused to take exams on December 21 in solidarity with their banned female colleagues.

Middle Shabelle: Somalia's spy agency kills senior Al-Shabaab terrorist
[Garowe] The National Intelligence Security Agency [NISA] has announced the death of a senior al-Shabaab

terrorist, in what could be a major gain as the country continues with its offensive against the Lions of Islam who control huge sections of central and southern parts of the nation.

According to state media, the spy agency downed one Yusuf Mohammed Jingab, who is said to be in charge of radicalization across the country. The chief hard boy was the head of recruitment and radicalization and had been on the radar for several months according to reports.

Yusuf, reports indicate, was killed in Middle Shabelle during an operation conducted by NISA at Juhay village on December 15. He is the latest senior hard boy to die in the operation which started in July this year immediately after Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took over from Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo.

"The National Intelligence and Security Agency has confirmed the death of Yusuf Mohammed Jingab, a big shot of al-Shabaab terrorists, who was the head of radicalising office. He was killed in an operation near Juhay village, in Middle Shabelle region, on 15, December," state media announced.

His death also comes as President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced that in the coming two weeks, the government troops would have completely taken over in Galmadug and HirShabelle states where the al-Shabaab Lions of Islam have considerably lost territories.

On Saturday, the government troops with assistance from the US Africa Command, the African Union

Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], and the local militia, managed to kill 40 Lions of Islam in Darunaim village within Middle Shabelle to further neutralize the Lions of Islam who have caused havoc in the country.

"40 al-Shabaab bad boyz were potted in a planned operation conducted by Somali National Army near Darunaim village in MiddleS Shabelle region where remnants of gunnies were gathering, on Saturday, " the state media further confirmed without giving many details on the operation.

The government of Somalia is optimistic that in the coming weeks, the Lions of Islam would have surrendered to the Somali National Army which has now liberated over 70 percent of the country by land mass. The government is also preaching against radicalization as part of its ideological strategy.
The statement issued by the ministry of information said that “The Security Forces and NISA killed Yusuf Muhammad Jingaab who was a senior Al-Shabaab commander, who was a great threat to the safety of the Somali people.”

The government said that Yusuf Jingaab was killed along with 87 other members of Al-Shabaab, on the 15th of this month.

gunnies in the Horn of Africa nation, where the national army is working with partners to dismantle the bad boys.

On Sunday, the US Africa Command reported that the airstrikes were purposely for "self-defense" against the Somalia-based al-Shabaab and were conducted last week within the troubled town of Adale in Somalia. The Somali National Army [SNA] confirmed the airstrikes last week.

The airstrikes, US Africa Command added, were conducted upon the request of the Somali National Army which was encountering the gunnies in the town. The army has been pushing in central and southern Somalia to vanquish the gunnies who are dominant in those regions.

The first strike took place 176 kilometers northeast of Mogadishu, killing seven bad boys, while the second strike took place approximately 220 kilometers northeast of Mogadishu, killing eight al-Shabaab fighters.

"U.S. Africa Command will continue to assess the results of these operations and will provide additional information as appropriate," read the statement, noting that no civilian was injured during the two incidents due to proper precautionary measures.

"Specific details about the units involved and assets used will not be released in order to ensure operations security."

Over the weekend, the government of Somalia reported that an operation in two villages left over 88 al-Shabaab gunnies dead. While the operation is yet to be confirmed by US Africa Command and ATMIS, the government did mention that international partners were involved in the crackdown.

Mohammed Yusuf Jingab, a senior al-Shabaab leader who is in charge of recruitment and training is said to have been killed following the airstrikes on Friday. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
the claims cannot be verified independently and the al-Shabaab gunnies are yet to issue any statement pertaining to the death which is a massive blow to them.

4 Al-Shabaab commanders surrender in Somalia

commanders have surrendered to government forces in Somalia, state media confirmed, in the latest wave of victories against the Death Eaters which are attributed to ongoing crackdown against the group which controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.

State media reported that Mohammed Ali Hassan alias Moalim Hudeifa, one of the most wanted al-Shabaab snuffies along with his other three colleagues surrendered to the national army within Middle Shabelle in the HirShabelle state. The state is the epicenter of the operations against the al-Shabaab.

Intelligence reports indicate that Mohammed Ali Hassan alias Moalim Hudeifa was the commander of the al-Shabaab Death Eaters who were crushed recently during an operation in parts of Middle Shabelle last week. He took advantage of the amnesty given to snuffies by the Somali National Army [SNA].

To effectively win the war, the national army has given room for defections from the group with those taking advantage being rehabilitated before repatriation to the community. Hundreds of the Death Eaters have previously made use of the grace period window to defect to the government.

According to the state media, his actions were welcomed by top SNA commanders who insisted that the amnesty is part of the "strategy to completely neutralize al-Shabaab bad boys". "The strategy is working well we hope that more of them will use the avenue to reform."

Statistics from the military indicated that dozens of elders who were sympathetic to the group have since changed and defected to the government with senior al-Shabaab commanders also joining them. The al-Shabaab Death Eaters have lost grip in several parts of the country where they were dominant.

At the same time, the national army arrested eight other Death Eaters in Middle Shabelle during an offensive that also saw the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], US Africa Command, and local militia participate. In line with the military doctrines, the apprehended individuals will face trial in the military courts.

On Sunday, a self-proclaimed elder Said Rage, and another bad boy, both active members of the Khawarij surrendered to the national army, the state media added. The government through President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has announced that it's just a matter of time after HirShabelle and Galmadug are completely liberated from al-Shabaab.

The president, in an interview with al-Jazeera, lauded the significant progress made by the army in liberating various parts of the country, noting that "for the first time, we have sustained the war against these criminals". Hassan Sheikh also pledged to invest in ideological tactics to defeat the bad boys.

AFRICOM: At least 15 al-Shabaab fighters killed in Somalia drone strikes
[ShabelleMedia] More than a dozen al-Qaeda-linked Lions of Islam were killed in separate Arclight airstrike

s in Somalia, U.S. Africa Command said.

The strikes, which came at the request of Somalia’s government, hit on Dec. 14 and Dec. 17. The attacks killed 15 al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
fighters who were battling government forces at two locations roughly 125 miles northeast of Mogadishu, AFRICOM said Sunday in a statement.

The command’s initial assessment was that no civilians were maimed or killed in either strike.

American actions are undertaken to support Somalia’s ongoing campaign to disrupt terrorism, AFRICOM said in the statement. Al-Shabaab, with an estimated 5,000-7,000 fighters, is the largest terrorist group operating in Africa. For nearly 20 years it has sought to overthrow the country’s weak federal government and impose an extreme form of Sharia law on the country.

For the past several years, AFRICOM has focused on training Somali military forces to be more effective in their battle against the bad boy group, which has proved resilient despite American efforts.

The U.S. also has carried out airstrikes in the country on a somewhat routine basis over the years, although the pace of the strikes has slowed significantly in 2021 and 2022. So far, about a dozen strikes against Shabaab targets have been conducted this year, according to the Long War Journal, which tracks such attacks. By comparison, the U.S. launched 63 strikes in Somalia in 2020.

In 2021, President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
ordered all U.S. forces out of the country during the last days of his administration. Military officials later said the move hindered their ability to support Somalia’s military training needs.

ordered American trainers back into the country.

"Somalia remains key to the stability and security in all of East Africa. U.S. Africa Command’s forces will continue training, advising, and equipping partner forces to give them the tools that they need to defeat (Al-Shabaab,)" AFRICOM said in its statement.

[SAHARAREPORTERS] A suspected member of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militant wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ejima, who was arrested by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS), has disclosed the names of the sponsors of terror in Imo State.

Ejima was arrested for allegedly masterminding attacks on offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.

In viral videos showing where Ejima was interviewed by journalists after his arrest, the suspect who admitted being the ESN Commander of Njaba Division, said they have three sponsors namely Chinasa Nworu, Okey Foreign, both based overseas and one Vitalis Anwunaezi from Budomu village in Imo.

Ejima said Nworu told them to attack operatives of Ebubeagu, a security outfit set up by governors in southeast Nigeria, wherever they see them.

He said, "My name is Erika from Atah, Njaba. I am 40 years old. I joined ESN (Eastern Security Network) over two years ago for freedom fighting.

"I have attacked only two places - Afor Atah and Orlu roundabout, around Ama Hausa. But I did not have a gun that day during the operation but my fellow people were going, so I followed them from behind.

"As they were carrying out the operation, we were three following them and as we were about to cross, soldiers started shooting at us and we left our motorcycles and ran away.

"I am the Commander of the Njaba division. I have killed only one boy who stole at Ukwuozor, because as a commander, I don't follow them to do operations. We saw the boy going on the road after he stole and he had a gun and pursued him and as we were pursuing him, we shot him and collected the gun.

"I did not follow them when they burnt the INEC office because I was not in the village at that time. The people who did it are from Owerri. It was Temple boys.

"Why I know it was Temple boys is because they lived with Temple before but Temple settled them and they entered Owerri. Based on the names they called them, it was from Owerri that they went for the operation. I don't know them. I know Temple very well but I don't know the boys."

Asked how he feels about his arrest, Ejima said, "I feel very bad. I regret my action."

He said their camp is behind Afor Atah Police Station "but for the past six to seven months ago, we don't have any camp now because I ran away because police started looking for me."

On the traditional ruler who was killed, he said, "It was my men who held him but the person who shot the traditional ruler is Freeman with Sky and Number One."

Asked of their sponsors, Ejima said, "It is Chinasa Nworu who stays abroad. I just know him as DOS commander from ESN. He and Okey Foreign have been sponsoring us for about two years now to carry out activities in Imo State.

"It is only Chinasa Nworu and Okey Foreign that sponsor us from abroad. The other man from the village is Vitalis Anwunaezi from Budomu.

"Chinasa Nworu told us to attack the Ebubeagu people anywhere we see them. We go to Orsu to sign our weapons from Temple."

Child injured by leftover explosive in Saada
by Emad Almarshahi

The Executive Center for Mine Action recorded on Wednesday the injury of a child as a result of the explosion of a cluster bomb left over by the Saudi-led coalition airstrikes in Saada province, northern Yemen.

The center stated that a 12-year-old child from Hidan district, Al-Raqa village, was injured as a result of the explosion of a cluster bomb left behind by the coalition, explaining that the child lost one of his eyes and was severely wounded in the face and chest.

On Tuesday, the center recorded the injury of three citizens, including a 16-year-old girl, as a result of blasts of the coalition mines and cluster bombs, in Harib district of Ma’rib province, and in Al-Maslob district in Jawf province, as well as in Al-Tuhita district in Hodeidah province.

The center confirmed that the provinces and areas contaminated with the war remnants are witnessing the death of civilians on an almost daily basis as a result of the large-scale pollution, in light of the lack of the necessary capabilities for the center.

Bannu CTD centre cleared; 25 terrorists gunned down
[DAILYTIMES.PK] The security forces on Tuesday cleared the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) centre after killing 25 snuffies inside the compound while liberating all the hostages from their captivity.

Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the director-general of ISPR, while sharing details of clearance operation with a private TV channel, added that two soldiers embraced martyrdom and ten people including three officers were maimed during the operation. Three snuffies were arrested during the operation while another seven surrendered themselves, he said.

According to the military front man, the forces of Evil who overpowered prison officials, seized their weapons and demanded a safe passage to neighbouring Afghanistan. He revealed that the negotiations with them lasted for over 48 hours before the operation began to flush them out of the compound. "We are determined to root out terrorism and will not hesitate to make any sacrifice in the fight against terrorism," he added. Official sources told APP that the operation conducted by the Special Services Group of Pakistain Army (SSG) was started at 12:30pm on Tuesday after the snuffies refused to set free the hostage staff of CTD.

The SSG commandos cleared the compound at 2:30pm after two hours of operation and killed 25 snuffies inside the centre. The sources said that 10 SSG jawans including an officer sustained injuries while two embraced martyrdom. On Sunday, the forces of Evil made hostage the staff at CTD centre after one of the outlaw snatched a rifle from its staffer after hitting him on head with the brick.

There were reports that the arrested forces of Evil were demanding a safe airlift to Afghanistan along with their detained accomplices in return for the release of the hostage staff. Prior of the operation, the emergency was imposed in all three major hospitals of Bannu, while the local administration as a precautionary measure had closed educational institutions. The people in the vicinity were asked to remain indoors and traffic in the area was also suspended.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Tuesday said that the Special Services Group (SSG) had completed the operation against snuffies at Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Centre Bannu, recovering all hostages and killing all members of the outlaw organization. Sharing details of the operation conducted by security forces against murderous Moslems, who besieged the CTD center in Bannu, the minister informed the joint sitting of the parliament that all snuffies had been killed and the compound had been cleared at 2:30 pm on Tuesday. He said that the operation started at 12:30 pm on December 20 and concluded at 2:30 pm. He added around 10 to 15 SSG jawans including one officer received injuries while two embraced Shahadat. The situation emerged after an arrested murderous Moslem overpowered staff, snatched a rifle and later held hostages inside the CTD centre in Bannu, he added. Khawaja Asif said, "All the snuffies who had taken hostages at CTD centre in Bannu were killed during the operation of security forces."

He said that the chief minister KPK and CTD department which is responsible for countering terrorism in the province were actually hostages of Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
as his government did nothing during last nine years even in floods and other untoward situations. The minister said that this incident is again an utter failure of Imran Khan’s government in KPK and added that again Pakistain Army played its role.
VOA adds:
The leader of an outlawed bully boy alliance waging terrorism in Pakistain praised his fighters Tuesday for taking several security officials hostage inside a provincial police counterterrorism interrogation center and urged them not to surrender, come what may.

Noor Wali Mehsud,
...The Fightin’ Pashtun from Waziristan who swore allegiance to the Afghan Taliban...
the chief of the Pak Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
or TTP (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain), issued the statement from his shelter in Afghanistan, raising renewed doubts about the sincerity of counterterrorism pledges by the neighboring country’s Islamist Taliban leadership.

"I congratulate you for carrying out this sacred act. I instruct you not to surrender to these infidels and apostates under any circumstances," Mehsud said.

The TTP released the local Pashto language audio message just hours before Mighty Pak Army commandos launched an operation and rescued the hostages from the compound in the northwestern garrison city of Bannu.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, while sharing details with an evening session of parliament in Islamabad, said the counterterrorism center had housed "33 terrorists" when the siege started in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

At least three Iraqi forces killed in Kirkuk blast
by Emad Almarshahi

At least three Iraqi soldiers were killed and two others were injured in an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) in Kirkuk, Alsumaria TV reported, citing a security source.

According to the source, ” an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded and targeted members of the army in Al-Zab town of Hawija district, which is a part of the Kirkuk Governorate, killing three soldiers and wounding two others.”

The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for terrorist attacks near Kirkuk and Albu Bali in Iraq last Sunday, which killed at least nine Iraqi policemen and eight civilians.
Rudaw adds:
Two soldiers of the Iraqi army were killed and three maimed when a bomb went kaboom! on their vehicle on Thursday morning, state media reported, with the country recently witnessing a spate of deadly terrorist attacks by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

"An bomb detonated on a Hummer of the 14th Division / Iraqi Army in Makhmour district ... killing two soldiers and wounding three others," state media cited a security source as saying, with the attack likely conducted by ISIS.

The attack marks the latest in a series of deadly ISIS attacks that have rocked the country recently. An ISIS attack on a village in western Diyala province on Monday led to the deaths of at least eight people with an additional three injured. Monday’s attack followed yet another deadly ISIS attack in Kirkuk province a day prior that killed at least seven members of the federal Iraqi police.

Israel brings down suspected Hezbollah drone
[AnNahar] The Israeli army on Tuesday said it downed a small suspected Hezbollah drone as it crossed from Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years. It produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. That's three statements. Only the first is subjective....
into northern Israel.

"Troops identified and downed a drone crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory a short while ago," the Israeli army said on its English-language Twitter account, adding that the drone "most likely" belongs to Hezbollah.

"We will continue to prevent any attempts to violate Israeli illusory sovereignty," the Israeli army added.

The development comes a few hours after the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said an Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
targeted a warehouse in the Damascus suburb of Sayyida Zeinab, killing three "non-Syrian nationals" allegedly affiliated with Hezbollah.

Palestinian man gets life plus 32 years in prison for role in deadly 2016 attack
[IsraelTimes] Bilal Abu Zeid convicted of supplying weapon and driving West Bank forces of Evil who killed Border Police officer Hadar Cohen at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem

An Israeli military court on Sunday sentenced a Paleostinian man to life in prison plus an additional 32 years over his involvement in a 2016 shooting attack in Jerusalem that killed a border policewoman.

Bilal Abu Zeid was convicted of supplying a gun and driving three Paleostinian men from the West Bank into Israel, where they killed Cpl. Hadar Cohen, 19.

He was also ordered to pay NIS 1.5 million ($430,000) to Cohen’s family, and an additional NIS 250,000 ($72,000) to another policewoman maimed in the attack.

The Paleostinian attackers who carried out the February 3, 2016, attack were armed with rifles, knives and two pipe bombs. They were killed by police at the scene.

Cohen, the border guard, died hours after being shot in the head and stabbed in the neck while guarding Damascus Gate at Jerusalem’s Old City. She had been drafted into the Border Police only two months earlier, and was still in training at the time of the attack.

During his testimony, Abu Zeid confessed to aiding the attackers but said he had declined to join them in carrying out the attack. "I refused and told them that I wanted to stay alive and kill Jews," he was quoted by military prosecutors as saying.

He had been convicted of intentionally causing the death of Cohen, as well as a series of security offenses. The main charge is equivalent to murder in the West Bank military court.

The court accepted the prosecution’s position that Abu Zeid was guilty of the attack due to his involvement in the planning and execution, even though he was not present at the time of the shooting.

Following the attack, the Israel Defense Forces demolished Abu Zeid’s and the other three attackers’ homes in the West Bank.

Cohen was part of a three-member squad that spotted the three Paleostinians behaving suspiciously and asked to see their identification papers. As one attacker withdrew his ID card, the others opened fire and pulled out knives to attack the officers.

According to police, Cohen managed to return fire before she was mortally maimed, despite being surprised by the attackers.
