10K Migrants Apprehended in One Week in Arizona Border Sector
The barriers on the Rio Grand must be working to shift migration to an easier pathway. How many of those apprehended were subsequently released into the United States to await some distant court date, should they then be bothered to do so?
[Breitbart] The surge of migrant apprehensions in the Arizona desert continues as Tucson Sector agents arrested 10,000 migrants during the past week. During that period, agents also carried out 430 migrant rescues and interdicted 21 human smuggling attempts.

Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin tweeted a report indicating that agents in his sector apprehended approximately 10,000 migrants during the past week. This is up from 9,000 the week before.

Modlin also reported the rescue of 430 migrants who became endangered in the relentless summer heat of the Arizona desert. In addition, the agents interdicted 21 human smuggling attempts and made 11 narcotics seizures.

In one of these rescues, agents saved the life of a 45-year-old Guatemalan female migrant who crossed the border in the Baboquivari Mountains on July 21, Modlin tweeted.

The chief reported that the woman became severely dehydrated and suffered a leg injury. Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents litter-carried the woman down the rigorous terrain of the mountain range to an awaiting Arizona DPS helicopter. The aircrew transported the injured woman to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

On July 24, agents assigned to the Ajo Station encountered a large group of 194 migrants, the chief said in another tweet. The group consisted of single adults and family units from 16 different nations.

The apprehension of 10,000 migrants indicates an upward trend in migrants entering the Tucson Sector. On July 21, Modlin tweeted a report indicating the arrest of 9,000 migrants in one week.

During the month of June, Tucson Sector agents apprehended 24,360 migrants who crossed between ports of entry. This brought the year-to-date total for the sector to 234,667 migrant apprehensions. In comparison, agents apprehended only 195,115 during the same period last year. The numbers are up significantly from the totals in FY20 and FY21.

The Tucson Sector is the only non-Texas-based southwest border sector showing increased migrant apprehensions this year over last.

The increase in Tucson Sector migrant apprehension comes as arrests in the five Texas-based sectors dropped following increased border security efforts under Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, Breitbart Texas reported.

“Governor Abbott launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021 to fill in the dangerous gaps created by President Biden’s reckless open border policies,” Andrew Mahaleris, press secretary to Governor Greg Abbott, told Breitbart Texas. “States like Arizona are following President Biden’s lead, allowing even more migrants to surge into our country while Texas is holding the line.”

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief August 1, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • PAKISTAN LAUNCHES MASSIVE INVESTIGATION INTO BAJAUR BOMBING – Sources from several government agencies say they have received very clear instructions from the top levels of the Government to expedite the investigation into the Bajaur Terrorist attack. After ISIS-K officially claimed credit for carrying out the heinous attack, all discussions suggesting the action may have been carried out by rival political parties ceased. The Bajaur attack is the largest loss of life suffered from the many terrorist attacks that have taken place in 2023. Currently, 54 people lost their lives and hundreds are injured. Some of the injured are not expected to recover.

  • TALIBAN BORDER SECURITY PERSONNEL HAVE INCREASED SEARCHES OF AFGHANS CROSSING THE BORDER AT TORKHAM – Several sources say that additional Taliban female security personnel have been added to the border contingent at Torkham Gate and are routinely searching the female travelers when they attempt to cross. In some instances, funds and documents that were being kept by female family members was taken. It is not clear what is done with the confiscated property and whether this is now National policy or simply criminal conduct.

  • PAKISTAN MOVES MORE MILITARY FORCES TO THE BORDER WITH AFGHANISTAN – Sources in Rawalpindi say that additional combat forces have been moved to reinforce four positions along the Durand Line after the Bajaur bomb attack. It was not clear if the moves were normally scheduled rotations or if the units had been moved forward in response to the bombing.

  • EUROPEAN AVIATION AUTHORITY ISSUES WARNING FOR FLIGHTS OVER PAKISTAN – EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) issued a warning to airline operators to remain above 7,900m/26,000ft when flying over Lahore and Karachi. The basis for the alert appears to be an unconfirmed report of a terrorist group that may have a MANPAD surface-to-air system. Typically, a MANPAD system is a shoulder-launched air defense weapon used to target aircraft flying at lower altitudes. No additional information was provided and the alert does not specify a duration for the flight restrictions. A survey of several aviation tracking websites did not show a major disruption to flights in the area but those could take place in the future should the information be verified.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Kapisa: The National Resistance Front published details fo an operation in the Kohband district that reportedly ended in the death of 2 Taliban, while 2 others were said to have been injured. The attack is said to have taken place after midnight yesterday.

NEXT 24 HOURS
FLOODING EXPECTED TODAY IN EASTERN PORTIONS OF AFGHANISTAN – Both Pakistan and Afghanistan’s meteorological agencies say the rain that has blanketed the eastern Provinces of the country will precipitate flooding along roads and low-lying areas. The rains are expected to move out of the area late tonight. Travel is ill-advised in the affected areas.

Shooting at police facility in Egypt's Sinai kills at least 4 officers
It’s been a while since we had any reports from that part of the world.
[AnNahar] A shooting at a heavily fortified security facility in the restive part of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula has killed at least four police, including a senior officer, two security and health officials said.

At least 21 other forces were maimed in the shooting at the National Security headquarters in el-Arish, the capital city of North Sinai province, they said.

A list of casualties obtained by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named showed that some forces suffered from gunshots and others faced breathing difficulties from tear gas that was fired inside the facility. There were eight officers among the maimed, the list showed.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief media.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear, and there was no immediate comment from the Interior Ministry, which oversees police forces.

North Sinai is the scene of a yearslong battle against an insurgency led by Islamist Lions of Islam who have carried out scores of attacks, mainly targeting security forces and Christians.

The pace of hard boy attacks in Sinai's main theater of operations and elsewhere has slowed to a trickle since February 2018, when the military launched a massive operation in Sinai and parts of the Nile Delta as well as desert areas along the country's western border with Libya.

[KavkazUzel] Individual pickets demanding the release of arrested Abdulmumin Gadzhiev
...also spelt Abdulmumin Hajiyev. Along with the head of the Ansar Foundation charity, Abubakar Rizvanov, and Kemal Tambiev, he was accused of financing terrorism. Investigators believe that they collected 68 million rubles and 200 thousand dollars for ISIS in Syria under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims...
were held in Makhachkala by journalists Idris Yusupov and Magomed Magomedov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that colleagues of the arrested editor of "Chernovik" Abdulmumin Gadzhiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold single-person pickets in his support in the center of Makhachkala, next to the complex of buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB department for Dagestan. On July 24, such actions were carried out by the deputy editor-in-chief of Chernovik Magomed Magomedov and the journalist of Novoye Delo  Idris Yusupov .

According to colleagues, Gadzhiev suffers because the newspaper voiced "uncomfortable questions" to the authorities and security forces, the "Caucasian Knot" report "  Draft" says: threats, criminal cases, murder of the editor-in-chief .

Today Idris Yusupov and Magomed Magomedov held one-man pickets at the traditional place - at the intersection of Dakhadaev Street and Gamzatov Avenue. Idris Yusupov began his picket with a placard: "Freedom to journalism!" at 13.10 Moscow time and finished at 13.30 Moscow time, Magomed Magomedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to him, Idris Yusupov was approached by police officers. Magomedov himself held a one-man picket demanding the release of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. The security forces did not try to interfere with the holding of single actions, he noted.

Recall that Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, as well as the head of the Ansar Charitable Foundation Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev, have been detained since June 2019 on charges of financing terrorism. Investigators believe that they collected 68 million rubles and 200,000 dollars for the terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. The investigation connects the defendants with the Dagestan preacher and founder of the Mukhadzhirun Islamic Foundation, Israil Akhmednabiev, known as Abu Umar Sasitlinsky. The defendants plead not guilty.

On June 22, the state prosecutor demanded that each of the defendants be sentenced to 19 years in prison. The prosecutor ignored the arguments of the experts and the testimonies of witnesses, Hajiyev stated. On July 27, the court adjourned until August 10. The details of the case are collected in the material of the "Caucasian Knot"  "Golunov number two": the main thing about the case of Abdulmumin Hajiyev."

India-Pakistan
India terror suspects said to have plotted attack on Mumbai Chabad House
[IsraelTimes] Two men linked to local Islamist group behind efforts to kill Hindu leaders; Israeli intelligence said involved in probe, security stepped up at Jewish sites

Two Islamic terror suspects detained in India in recent days were plotting to carry out a series of bombings and had carried out surveillance of the Chabad House in Mumbai, the scene of a deadly attack 15 years ago, Indian media reported Monday.

The reports, quoting sources in the Maharashtra state Anti-Terrorism Squad, said that during an ongoing probe into a local Islamist terror group known as Al-Sufa, two men were arrested over the weekend in the city of Pune.

They were found to be in possession of explosives, drone equipment, laptops, and incriminating books written in Arabic. Among the documents found on a phone were pictures of the Chabad House in Mumbai and its GPS coordinates, the reports said.

Seven people were killed by gunmen at Nariman Chabad House in 2008, including emissaries Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg — part of several attacks on Mumbai sites over four days by an Islamist Pakistani group. In total, 166 people were killed and hundreds injured.

Israel’s Channel 12 news reported that Israeli intelligence cooperated in the probe leading to the arrest of the two men and that, in coordination with local authorities, security at the Jewish site had been stepped up.

The report said the investigation was looking at a possible link between the suspects and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

However, Indian media reports said the Al-Sufa group, which emerged in 2015, is most likely linked to jihadist groups in Pakistan.

The ongoing probe into Al-Sufa has so far focused on plots by the group to kill prominent Hindu leaders and politicians.

The two men, identified as Mohammed Imran, 23, and Mohammed Yunus Saki, 24, both from the town of Ratlam in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, were apprehended while trying to steal a motorcycle.

Police later found that they had been living in a tent in the jungle outside Pune, some 150 kilometers (90 miles) from Mumbai, while trying to avoid capture. There they had been experimenting with building and detonating bombs, the reports said.

Apart from the 2008 Chabad attack, there have been several terror attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets in India.

In 2021, a blast outside the Israeli embassy in New Delhi damaged cars but caused no injuries, in an attack India has said was carried out by the Quds Force branch of Iran’s IRCG.

A letter found close to the scene of the blast was a death threat to the Israeli ambassador that warned he was constantly being watched and vowed to avenge the deaths of three “martyrs”: Qassem Soleimani, the IRGC commander who was killed in a January 2020 United States drone strike; Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a top Iraqi militia commander who was killed along with Soleimani; and Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the architect of Iran’s nuclear program, killed in a November 2020 attack Tehran has blamed on Israel.

‘NGO Funding Case’: NIA raids multiple locations in Kashmir

Reliable sources informed Srinagar based news agency Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
Dot Com that the sleuths of NIA with the assistance of police and CRPF raided multiple locations in Srinagar, Kupwara, Budgam, Pulwama and Shopian districts of the valley.

In Srinagar, The NIA sleuths raided the residence of Zubair Siddiq Dar, son of Mohammad Sadiq Dar at Bonpora Batmaloo and later was brought to PS Batmaloo for questioning.

In Budgam, the sleuths of NIA raided the residence of Arshid Indrabi, son of Ghulam qadir at Cooperative Colony Peerbagh.

Another team searched the residence of Advocate Parvaiz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Qadir at Kanta Bagh Kralpora.

The residence of Saleem Ahmad Malik at Kralpora Kupwara was also being searched by the sleuths of NIA this morning.

Similarly, raids are being conducted at different parts of Kashmir valley.

The national probing agency said that involvement of some Valley-based NGOs, trusts and societies in funding of terror-related activities was being probed in this case. "Some NGOs, both registered as well as unregistered, have been collecting funds domestically and abroad under the cover of doing charity and various welfare activities. But some of these organizations have developed links with proscribed terror organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen
...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003...

More deaths: 23 minors among 54 lives lost in Bajaur blast, ISIS-K claims it
[Dawn] The so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-Khorasan (IS-K) group on Monday grabbed credit for the suicide kaboom at a JUI-F political gathering, as the toll from the tragedy rose to 54, including 23 minors.

According to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Additional Inspector General Shaukat Abbas, at least 83 people were hurt in the attack, while Dr Naseeb Gul of Khar DHQ hospital feared that the toll might rise further, since some of the injured were still in very critical condition.

The AIG told Dawn: "We have collected the evidence, identified the group and we are waiting for the forensic report."

According to APP, AIG Abbas told news hounds the convention began at 2pm on Sunday and the earth-shattering kaboom occurred two hours later.

He said statements of the injured had been recorded while the process of geo-fencing at the site of the earth-shattering kaboom has been completed.

The CTD also registered an FIR against unidentified suspects over Sunday’s suicide kaboom, which includes charges of terrorism, murder and attempted murder.

In a statement issued on Monday, District Police Officer (DPO) Nazeer Khan said that as per the investigation, up to 12kg of explosives was used in the attack.

Amaq, the propaganda arm of IS-K — which has also grabbed credit for earlier attacks on the JUI-F — said on Monday that a suicide kaboomer detonated his explosive jacket in the middle of a crowd in Khar.

Sources in the Khar DHQ hospital told Dawn that at least 16 children between the ages of 12 and 15, were among the dead and maimed.

At least 36 of those who perished on Sunday were laid to rest in their native villages after funeral prayers in the Nawagai, Mamond, Sadiqabad, Inayat Kallay, Khar, Shinkoot, Shandi and Alzai localities, which were attended by hundreds of people from all walks of life.

JUI-F’s Khar emir Ziaullah, his information secretary Mujahid Khan and his 22-year old son were among those laid to rest on Sunday night.

Among those buried on Monday was a pair of cousins aged 16 and 17.

Last year, IS-K said it was behind attacks against religious scholars affiliated with JUI-F, which has a network of mosques and schools. In June, it said they were behind the liquidation of a party official in the village of Inayat Killi, according to BBC News.

The group accuses the JUI-F of hypocrisy for being a religious party while supporting secular governments and the military.

Iraq
Iraqi Security Forces Boost Security Measures Around German Embassy in Baghdad
[Shafaq News] On Monday, Iraqi security forces escalated security protocols around the German embassy in the al-Mansour district in Baghdad.

A security source told Shafaq News Agency that a joint task force comprised of the Federal Police and the Counter-Terrorism Service took swift action to seal off the street leading to the German embassy.

The source disclosed that riot forces deployed before the embassy building.

The move comes amid concerns about potential protests over an alleged incident involving a German citizen's intention to burn a copy of the Koran.

Tension recently escalated between Moslem countries and Europe, particularly with Sweden and Denmark, over desecrating the holy book.

Earlier today, two men set a copy of the Koran alight outside the Swedish parliament.

Salwan Momika and Salwan Najem stomped on the Moslem holy book and set its pages ablaze before slamming it shut. The protest was granted a permit by Swedish police, who said they only permit people to hold public gatherings and not for the activities conducted during the events.

In addition to the Koran desecration, Momika also burned a photo symbolizing the third Imam of the Shiites, Hussein bin Ali, along with an image of the head of the Sadrist movement, Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival al-Khoei assassinated shortly after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
.

The protest sparked widespread anger and prompted gatherings near the Swedish parliament by Iraqis and other concerned individuals, who vehemently condemned the actions and urged the Swedish authorities to take appropriate measures.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said a similar process was underway, noting his country was in "the most serious security situation since World War II."

Swedish and Danish envoys have been summoned to several Middle Eastern nations. Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and Iraq have called for a meeting on Monday of the Jeddah-based Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address Koran desecrations in Sweden and Denmark.

Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom said Monday that he had been in contact with several of his counterparts among the 57 member states of the organization ahead of the meeting and sent a letter to all members.

In a statement, Billstrom said that he had informed them about the process for granting permits for public gatherings in Sweden and that police made such decisions independently.

Billstrom added that he had also reiterated that "the Swedish Government has been very clear in its rejection of the Islamophobic acts carried out by individuals at demonstrations in Sweden."

IDF operates in Jenin for first time since major operation a month ago
[IsraelTimes] Troops detain two wanted Paleostinians affiliated with Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, in northern West Bank city, after four-week lull

Israeli forces operated in Jenin on Monday morning, for the first time since a major operation was carried out in the northern West Bank city some four weeks ago.

The Israel Defense Forces said troops and Border Police officers entered Jenin to detain two wanted Paleostinians affiliated with the Hamas terror group.

During the raid, Paleostinian button men opened fire in the area, the IDF said, adding that an engineering vehicle broke down following a technical malfunction. The vehicle was later extracted.

In footage published by Paleostinian media outlets, gunfire could be heard across the city.

The official Paleostinian Authority news agency, Wafa, named the two detained men as Fathi al-Atoum and Rabih as-Sanouri. It said al-Atoum had been previously arrested by Israel, spending a total of nine years in Israeli jails, before his most recent release last month.

There were no reports of injuries in the raid.

The IDF said troops detained ten more wanted Paleostinians during raids in other areas of the West Bank early Monday, with violence in some areas.

terror group, as well as other smaller gangs in the city and refugee camp.

During the campaign, involving over 1,000 ground troops and the air force, the IDF said forces located and demolished at least eight weapon storage sites, six explosives labs with hundreds of primed devices, three war rooms used by Paleostinian button men to observe Israeli forces, and other "terror infrastructure."

Paleostinian health officials said 12 people were killed and at least 100 were maimed during Israeli Arclight airstrike

s and in festivities with Israeli forces between July 3 and 5.

According to the IDF, all of the slain Paleostinians were involved in the fighting, but there were some noncombatants among the maimed.

One soldier was killed as troops began to withdraw from Jenin, although the IDF suspected he may have been killed by so-called "friendly fire."

Tensions have remained high in the West Bank, with the military carrying out near-nightly raids amid a series of deadly Paleostinian terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank that have killed 25 people since the beginning of the year.

According to a tally by The Times of Israel, 160 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed since the beginning of the year — most of them during festivities with security forces or while carrying out attacks, but some were uninvolved civilians and others were killed under unclear circumstances.

Clashes intensify in Ain al-Helweh as death toll climbs to 9 11
[AnNahar] Clashes continued Monday for the third day in a Paleostinian camp in Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...

’ Fatah group and Islamist factions. The corpse count from the fighting rose to nine, officials said.

The festivities between members of Paleostinian president Mahmoud Abbas's secular Fatah movement and Islamists have forced dozens of frightened residents to flee their homes in the camp, which has gained notoriety as a refuge for turbans and runaways.

Limited skirmishes erupted again Sunday night, escalating into heavy festivities with gunfire and shelling on Monday, said the AFP correspondent in the southern city of Sidon, where the camp is located.

"Things are supposed to go back to normal soon," an official involved in the ceasefire negotiations told AFP, asking for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

The official added that they were working on "preventing further escalation".

Paleostinian factions said they had reached a ceasefire on Sunday, but the truce did not hold.

On Monday morning, Lebanon's official news agency NNA reported "increased festivities" using heavy weaponry, with exchanges of gunfire concentrated in the al-Tawarek neighbourhood -- a stronghold for Islamist Death Eaters.

Dozens of residents, mostly women and kiddies, fled the camp carrying light luggage, while others took refuge in a nearby mosque, AFP's correspondent said.

Fighting began overnight on Saturday, killing an Islamist and injuring six others, a Paleostinian source inside the camp had told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
for security reasons.

The next day, a Fatah military leader and four of his colleagues were killed during a "heinous operation", the group said.

Shells also fell outside the walls of the camp over the past two days, AFP observed. A nearby hospital evacuated patients and shops in Sidon closed fearing further escalation.

Fighting between rival groups is common in Ain al-Helweh, which is home to more than 54,000 registered Paleostinian refugees who have been joined in recent years by thousands of Paleostinians fleeing the war in Syria.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Paleostinian president Mahmoud Abbas both issued statements Sunday decrying the violence.

Lebanese politician Osama Saad, who represents the Sidon area where the camp is located, said he and other Lebanese officials and security forces would meet with the Paleostinian factions on Monday to push for a cease-fire.
Subsequently from Dawn:
Three days of fighting in south Lebanon’s Ain al-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp have left at least 11 dead and dozens wounded, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees said on Monday.

Clashes broke out over the weekend between members of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas’s secular Fatah movement and Islamist fighter based in the camp, Lebanon’s largest located in the coastal city of Sidon.

Renewed gunfire and shelling on Monday shook the camp, said a correspondent in Sidon, sending frightened residents fleeing.

“According to reports, 11 were killed and another 40 were injured, including one staff member” of UNRWA, said Dorothee Klaus, the UN agency’s director in Lebanon.

Fatah and Islamist group say they have agreed on a truce in Sidon

She added in a statement that UNRWA has “temporarily suspended” operations in the camp due to the fighting.

Thousands of mourners gathered in south Lebanon on Monday for the funeral of a Palestinian military general with the Fatah group, whose killing in a refugee camp in Lebanon fueled fierce sectarian street battles that have killed at least 11 people.

Three days of clashes between Palestinian factions at the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp have pitted members of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party against Islamist groups accused of gunning down the general, Abu Ashraf al Armoushi, on Sunday.

A Lebanese lawmaker announced a ceasefire agreement late Monday, which appeared to calm the situation, but sporadic gunfire continued afterward. Earlier efforts to broker a ceasefire had failed to stop the shooting and shelling through the narrow streets of the Ein el-Hilweh camp in southern Lebanon.

Armoushi’s funeral was held in another refugee community, the al-Rashidieh camp, where he had lived.

“This heinous crime doesn’t benefit anyone but the enemy, and that is the Zionists, because they are the primary and only beneficiary,” said Jalal Abuchehab, a Fatah official at al-Rashidieh camp, during Armoushi’s funeral.

Iran sentences two female journalists to over four years in prison
[Rudaw] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has sentenced two female journalists to more than four years in prison each, on charges of conspiring against the Iranian government, a Tehran-based journalist association reported on Monday.

A Tehran court found Saeedeh Shafiei and Nasim Sultanbeigi guilty of "propaganda against the regime" and "association and collusion" in a hearing held earlier this month, the Tehran Province Journalist Association reported on Monday citing Hassan Homayoun, Shafiei’s husband.

They were each sentenced to four years and three months in prison: Eight months for the first charge, and three years and seven months for the second charge.

Shafiei and Sultanbeigi were separately detained and transferred to Iran’s notorious Evin prison in January. They were both temporarily released on bail until the end of their trials a while later.

In addition to the imprisonment sentences, the journalists have also been banned from joining any political and social groups for a period of two years and prohibited from leaving the country during that time as well.

Dozens of journalists were detained by Iranian authorities in late 2022 and early 2023 for covering the nationwide protest movement following the death of Zhina (Mahsa) Amini while in the custody of Tehran’s morality police.

Rights groups have accused Iran of carrying out "sham" and "unfair" trials of those detained during the Amini protests.

According to the 2023 World Press Freedom Index issued by the Gay Paree-based Reporters without Borders, a non-profit organization aiming to safeguard freedom of information, Iran is listed as 177 out of 180 in the world, making it one of the worst countries in the world for press freedom, followed only by Vietnam, China and North Korea

In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel.
