#1  Two months after 9/11 I was at a Dale Carnegie speaking class with about 45 people in Dallas and we were to do a 3 minute speech on an important event in our lives. A young arab man got up and started talking about being excited about going to see a friend in NYC who worked in the towers but just before he was to leave for NYC the towers went down. He spent the last two minutes of his three minutes in tears trying to tell the group about how wonderful his best friend was who died in the towers. It was the most riveting two minutes I had ever sat through. And the irony he said was they were both Muslim.

#2  The remarkable thing was he was spilling his heart and grief out to a room full of mostly white, non-Muslim westerners, strangers that evening.

#4  ...That night, once President Bush got back to Washington, he asked a quiet, straightforward question: was the force of the towers coming down equal to the force of a nuclear weapon?

They were on the table that night. We knew who; we knew where.

I have said for years now that I'm glad we didn't, but I was wrong. After warning the Russians that it was coming, we should have erased Kabul and never said another word about it.

The world was terrified of our potential reaction for a few days, and we should have shown them why.

#11  I still say we should disengage entirely with the Muslim world. We don't go there and they don't come here. Trump tried something like that at the beginning of his administration with his so-called Muslim travel ban. People freaked out and called him racist but to me it made perfect sense. Americans need to stop going around the world meddling in the affairs of other countries and we need to stop letting those people bring their problems to our country. Isolationist? So what? Racist? Islam is not a race. Phobic? There are good reasons for a lot of phobias. In a thousand years we can check back with them and see if they've become a bit more reasonable.

Daily Evacuation Brief September 11, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TORKHAM REMAINED CLOSED FOR 5TH DAY – Trade groups from both countries expressed frustration over the continued closure of the commercial crossing. Talks reportedly continued on Sunday but Pakistan has dug its heels in over a call on Kabul to tackle the TTP terror problem. The Taliban continue to claim the TTP does not operate from within Afghanistan. Traders estimate that at least $1M has been lost due to the closure. Some in Kabul have speculated that an agreement to reopen the gate could be announced today.

  • SECOND MAJOR ENGAGEMENT IN CHITRAL REPORTED – Possibly lending credence to TTP claims that it had occupied select population centers in the disputed area, Pakistani military personnel claim to have engaged TTP forces in the Ursoon area. 6 TTP fighters were reportedly killed and 6 others were wounded in the clashes. A source in Rawalpindi said that Pakistan has dispatched several hundred reinforcements to the area and is working to target remnants of the large TTP force that initiated the incursion last Wednesday. The area is considered extremely dangerous to travelers and Pakistani military and police were turning vehicles back along the main roadways leading into Ursoon and Chitral.

  • TTP LEADERS FEAR A BETRAYAL BY KABUL/KANDAHAR – A source in Khost said that a recent meeting occurred in Paktia Province of senior TTP leaders and that the discussions were focused on possible courses of action the terror group could take should Kabul launch counter-terrorism operations against their members in Eastern Afghanistan. One of the senior leaders, referred to as ‘Commander Green’, complained that the TTP should never have allowed some of its members to be resettled to Balkh and other Northern Provinces from their strongholds along the Durand Line. ‘Commander Green’ also complained that the line of communications to Haqqani (presumably, the Minister of the Interior) had been compromised and that Pakistani intelligence services were eavesdropping on conversations. The source said that the recent actions in Chitral appear to have been an attempt to establish a new base of operations on the Pakistani side of the border and take pressure off Kabul. However, they did not expect such a strong response from the Pakistani military. Apparently, local leaders and communities were not as welcoming as TTP leaders had hoped. This information has not been confirmed.

It is nor clear which group was responsible for the attack.

CHRISTIAN CHURCHES IN KARACHI PREPARE FOR POSSIBLE TERRORIST THREATS – Police in Karachi are warning Christian churches and facilities of potential terror threats. Police officials visited several of the facilities and compiled a list of recommendations that Christian leaders should take to safeguard their property and personnel. It was not immediately clear if the warnings were related to an immediate threat or, were simply proactive precautions in the wake of the riots that took place recently in other parts of the country. Regardless of the motives, the Police in Karachi appear to be taking threats to Christian minorities seriously. At-risk Afghans in Karachi would be wise to avoid these locations in the near term.

Al-Shabaab attacks military base in Somalia UPDATE: 20-60 Shaboobs toes up
[Garowe] al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
snuffies raided yet again an army base in southern Somalia on Sunday morning, sources confirmed, amid an ongoing crackdown against the group, which is fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed administration under President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

According to reports, the snuffies used bombs to attack Awadheegle before sunrise, followed by sporadic gunfire in the pre-dawn attack. The government of Somalia is yet to confirm the devastating attack whose casualties also remain scanty according to reports from the ground.

"Today was the worst day for this town", a resident told Garowe Online by phone. The key agricultural town lies 84 km west of the Somalia capital, Mogadishu. The snuffies have been targeting military bases in the country, with most soldiers reporting to various frontlines for the operations.

On Friday, the army repelled an attack at Berdaale town according to the Ministry of Defence which has been monitoring operations across the country. The town is found in the Bay region, one of the hotspots in the war against the snuffies and where much focus will be put on the second phase of operations against the group.

"Last night, our National Army, supported by local residents, successfully repelled a Khawarij militia attack on Berdale district, Bay region," the Ministry posted. "The operation resulted in the elimination of the group's leader along with other holy warriors."

Al-Shabaab on their side confirmed attacking the town and claimed forcing govt troops to "flee" their base. The group is, however, known for using propaganda as a tool to articulate its agenda including but not limited to exaggerating the number of casualties.

Update from Goobjoog News at 12:40 p.m. EDT:
According to official government reports, hundreds of militants attacked government forces at Awdhegle town on the bank of the Shabelle River.

The government forces engaged the militants in a fierce fight and managed to repulse them, killing at least 60 militants and capturing an assortment of military equipment which was abandoned by the fleeing militants.

The governor of the region, Mohamed Ibrahim Barre, said that the militants used explosives in attacking the base.

“They attacked the town from two directions – the north and west,” he said.

“The fighting lasted for almost two hours.”

Awdhegle is a strategic town where government forces protect a key bridge that officials say is key to preventing the smuggling of al-Shabab vehicles carrying explosives into the capital, Mogadishu.
More from Garowe at 1:20 p.m. EDT:
Somali National Army's elite force, Gorgor, killed more than 20 al-Shabab militants and wounded others early Sunday in heavy fighting between the army and militants at a military base in Awdheegle district in southern Somalia, officials said.

Al-Shabab militants claimed responsibility for the latest attack, saying its fighters killed 59 soldiers including commanders, and ran over the base. The al-Qaida allied terror group normally inflates casualty figures during their battle with the government's security forces.

Deadly attack strikes Khartoum market, leaving dozens dead
[GEO.TV] At least 35 people have been killed after a crowded market in Sudan
......
's capital was hit with "explosive weapons", a medical charity said.

The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) described it as "carnage", saying that more than 60 people had also been maimed in the attack. Local volunteers say a military aircraft bombarded the Qouro market in southern Khartoum on Sunday. Rival military factions have been fighting since April.

On Sunday, MSF's emergency coordinator Marie Burton said Khartoum "has been at war for almost six months". "But still, the volunteers and medical personnel in Bashair hospital are shocked and overwhelmed by the scale of horror that struck the city" on Sunday, she added on X, formerly Twitter.

The MSF said "explosive weapons" had hit the market and that air strikes and shelling continued in "another day of unthinkable suffering and loss of life". "We're trying to save the lives of people whose body parts have been ripped off by the earth-shattering kaboom. It was a carnage," MSF added.

Sudan plunged into a civil war in April after army chief Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Gen Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo fell out.

About five million people have been forced to flee their homes, and thousands have been killed. Khartoum and the western region of Darfur have been worst hit by the conflict. The RSF controls much of Khartoum and the adjoining cities of Omdurman and Bahri.

The military has repeatedly carried out air strikes in a bid to regain control of the cities. An air strike killed at least 20 people, including two children, about a week ago, activists said.

The US, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, and other countries have been trying to mediate an end to the conflict, with no success. Several ceasefires have been announced to allow people to escape the fighting but these have been broken.
Al Ahram adds:
At least 40 people were killed and dozens injured Sunday in air strikes in the south of Sudan's capital Khartoum, local activists said, as the war nears the end of its fifth month.

The revised toll means the Sunday morning raid was one of the deadliest single attacks in the war that erupted in April between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

"At about 7:15 am (0515 GMT), military aircraft bombarded the Qouro market area," said the local resistance committee, one of many groups that used to organise pro-democracy protests and now provides assistance during the war.

"The number of victims of the Quoro market massacre" had risen to 40 by the afternoon, the committee said, revising its previous toll of 30 killed.

The committee said more deaths were expected, as casualties continued to pour into the nearby Bashair hospital.

The hospital had issued an "urgent appeal" for all medical professionals in the area to come and help treat the "increasing number of injured people arriving".

Nearly 7,500 people have been killed in the war that erupted on April 15, according to a conservative estimate from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project. The real corpse count is presumed to be much higher, with many of those maimed and killed never reaching hospitals or morgues. Access to many areas has been cut off completely and the warring sides have not declared their losses.

Nearly five months in, neither side has been able to seize a decisive advantage. The armed forces control the skies over Khartoum, while RSF fighters continue to dominate the city's streets. The army has been accused of repeated indiscriminate shelling of the residential areas where the paramilitaries have embedded themselves, including by evicting families and taking over homes.

Over 2.8 million people have fled the Sudanese capital, whose pre-war population was around five million.

300 Mostly West African Migrants Cross Border into Arizona
[Breitbart] In what Border Patrol agents describe as a daily event, more than 300 mostly West African migrants walked through drainage gates in the border wall several miles west of Lukeville, Arizona. The group contained around forty migrants from Peru, India, Ecuador, and several Middle Eastern countries, according to Border Patrol agents who spoke to Breitbart Texas.

The video. filmed on Tuesday in the Organ Pipe Monument National Reserve, shows the migrants staging along the border fence just after daybreak. After walking through the open storm drainage gates, welded open to accommodate water run-off during the desert monsoon season, the migrants travel to a nearby water station and then to a rally point where Border Patrol agents begin the initial stages of processing the group.

Breitbart Texas walked along parts of the path with the migrants as they made their way from the border wall to a nearby highway. The migrants showed their enthusiasm in finally making it to the United States — one migrant shouting “Thank you America” repeatedly.

Of the more than 300 migrants making the trek through the reserve, few could speak Spanish or English. Some of the migrants who identified themselves as Senegalese nationals spoke French and a few words in broken English. Others spoke Arabic and Hindi. Some of the migrants can be heard coughing loudly in the group. Many have traveled from outside the hemisphere for months to reach the United States-Mexico border.

The Border Patrol notes a significant increase in migrants from outside the hemisphere. As reported by Breitbart Texas, the arrest of migrants from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania has increased more than 6,000 percent this fiscal year compared to the same time frame in 2022. The arrest of Egyptians at the southwest border has also increased by 1,400 percent over last year.

This group was the second large group in two days. On Monday, a similar-sized group made the same crossing and surrendered to awaiting Border Patrol agents. The migrants expect to be released into the United States to await the lengthy asylum process. Border Patrol agents in the area say most will gain release unless background checks reveal a previous criminal history in the United States.

At the rally point, Border Patrol agents took basic biographical information and sorted the migrants into groups for transport to a processing facility. Border Patrol agents say the influx of migrants from around the world is steady in Lukeville. One agent, not authorized to speak to the media, told Breitbart Texas, “The constant barrage of migrants surrendering leaves us little else to do but replenish supplies, arrange for transport to the station, process, and get ready for the next day.”

Border Patrol agents in the vicinity spoke about the difficulty of dealing with nationals from so many countries in one single group. The language barriers between the migrants and the agents who only speak English and Spanish create huge delays in the hours-long process of interviewing and processing the migrants.

In August, Border Patrol agents in the Tucson Sector apprehended nearly 49,000 migrants, according to unofficial reports reviewed by Breitbart Texas. The number is a more than 160 percent jump from the 18,506 apprehended in August of 2022.

According to CBP, between October and July, more than 1.6 million migrants crossed into the United States at the southern border. According to unofficial reports reviewed by Breitbart Texas, just under 180,000 migrants were apprehended in August, bringing the total migrant encounters across the southwest border to more than 1.8 million.

As reported by Breitbart Texas, nearly 600,000migrants have managed to avoid capture by the Border Patrol since October and are listed as “Got-Aways.”

India-Pakistan
LeT commander who had key role in Rajouri attack killed inside PoK mosque
[MSN - Times of India] In yet another mysterious killing of a terrorist wanted in India for a terror attack, unidentified button men bumped off a high-ranking commander of LeT inside al-Qudus mosque in Pakistain-Occupied Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
's (POK) Rawalkot on Friday.

The terrorist, identified as Riyaz Ahmad alias Abu Qasim Kashmiri, was shot from point-blank range during the Friday prayers. He was one of the main conspirators behind the Rajouri terror attack in J&K in January this year. At least seven people had died while a dozen were maimed when snuffies firing indiscriminately at Dhangri village in Rajouri district. They also left behind an improvised bomb (IED) that went off the next morning.

Sources said the role of home-grown Lions of Islam of Pakistain is suspected in the murder, which is the third such killing in four months. All three were confidantes of designated global terrorist Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat. He is periodically placed under house arrest so it looks like the govt is doing something. Once the heat is off they let him go....
Lashkar commander Khalid Saifullah was bumped off on August 11 while another LeT commander Salaam Bhuttavi, who was one of the trainers of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, mysteriously suffered a cardiac arrest in a Pakistain jail. Around ten such killings, many of them in Pakistain, have been reported in the last one year.

Friday’s killing has come as a major blow to IS’s Kashmir centric plans as Qasim Kashmiri had established himself as a notorious "launching commander" with a focus on recruitments in Rajouri and Poonch areas in the Valley. Pakistain media outlets termed Abu Qasim’s death as a "assassination of an Islamist Guerrilla fighter". As per the police’s briefing to the local media, Qasim was shot four times by assailants wearing helmets. Qasim originally belonged to the Surankot area of J&K and had exfiltrated across the border in 1999. "He was considered as the brain behind the revival of terrorism in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri," an intelligence official said.

Since the abrogation of Article 370 in J&K in August 2019, the IS has been facing a major challenge in terms of terrorist recruitment. Abu Qasim, however, had kept the launchpads alive and kept getting the local youths on IS’s payroll while brainwashing them about jihad. In the last three years, terror camps were mainly running from 3-4 areas of POK, including Manshera and Muzaffarabad, under the guidance of Qasim and his associates.

Soldier martyred in exchange of fire with terrorists in North Waziristan: ISPR
[Dawn] A soldier was martyred in an exchange of fire with holy warriors in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s North Wazoo district on Saturday, according to the military’s media wing.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) blurb said the skirmish took place in the district’s general area of Mir Ali.

"Own troops effectively engaged terrorists’ location. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
during intense exchange of fire, Lance Naik Jamshed Khan (age 28 years, resident of District Upper Dir), having fought gallantly, embraced martyrdom," the ISPR said.

It added the area was being sanitised to eliminate any holy warriors found in the vicinity.

Midnight attack on Lakki city police station repulsed
[Dawn] The police repulsed an attack by holy warriors on the Lakki Marwat city cop shoppe here on Friday night.

An official said on Saturday that a group of holy warriors attacked the city cop shoppe with sophisticated weapons. He, however, said the assailants could not breach the cop shoppe as the coppers deployed there were fully alert and responded effectively.

The official said the cop shoppe building was located at a stone’s throw from the River Gambila and the holy warriors might have come from the riverside to attack it. "After police repulsed the attack, the holy warriors escaped the scene," he added

The exchange of fire between the police and holy warriors at midnight also panicked the local residents.

A resident, who was sleeping in the courtyard of his house, said he woke up to the sound of gunfire at midnight.

It was the second attack on the city cop shoppe in the last over eight months.

Several cop shoppes have come under attack in the district during the last several months.

Seven terrorists killed, six injured in Chitral shootout
[GEO.TV] At least seven bad boyz were potted while another six got critically injured during an intense exchange of fire between the bully boyz and the security personnel in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the military’s media wing, the shooting took place in the general area of Ursoon in Chitral district on Saturday.

The army troops effectively engaged terrorists' location and resultantly, "seven bad boyz were potted while another six were critically injured," read the statement.

The sanitisation of the area was being carried out to eliminate any other forces of Evil found in the area, the army’s information affairs wing added.

The locals of the area appreciated the operation by the security forces and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country, it added.

Last month, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir had said that Pakistain was acting as a bulwark against terrorism and the international community must realise the immense sacrifices rendered by the country.

According to the ISPR, the army chief had made the remarks during a meeting with a group of 38 students from Harvard University, United States hailing from 9 different countries at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the military’s media affairs wing added.

During the interactive session, the COAS had talked about regional security issues and the Pakistain Army’s contributions to promoting peace and stability in the region.

The army chief had also highlighted the rich potential of Pakistain and urged the participants to perceive Pakistain based on their experiences during their stay in Pakistain.

Turkish military resumes aerial bombardment on PKK sites in Iraq's Kurdistan
They’d stopped? I missed that — it must have been while I blinked.
[Shafaq News] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

's military intensified its offensive against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) late on Sunday with renewed Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s in the Kurdistan region, followed by armed festivities in the Amadiya district in Duhok.

Residents of the Sakiri village in the Amadiya district told Shafaq News Agency Ottoman Turkish helicopters targeted the vicinity of their village and other areas within the Matin Mountain range that overlooks Amadiya, a move directed at crippling PKK installations in the area.

"The bombardment was perilously close to the village, inducing a state of panic among the villagers," one eyewitness shared, highlighting the ongoing tumult as aircraft continued to patrol the region ominously.

In the wake of the aerial offensive, skirmishes erupted between PKK members and the Ottoman Turkish army, further exacerbating the volatile situation in the already tense territory. Details regarding the nature of the weaponry utilized in the festivities remained scant as of the latest update, with another witness affirming the eruption of ground confrontations post the aerial assault but without providing a detailed breakdown.

The Sunday night operation represents a continued effort by the Ottoman Turkish forces to "neutralize" PKK groups entrenched in the northern regions of Iraq, a campaign that has been met with mounting concerns over the safety of civilians inhabiting the border areas.

Palestinians in West Bank try to fire rocket at Israeli town, for 7th time in months
[IsraelTimes] PA police find launch site following latest claims by al-Ayyash Battalion; local council demands IDF deploy Iron Dome

Paleostinians in the northern West Bank attempted to launch a homemade rocket at a nearby Israeli town on Sunday morning, the latest in a series of mostly unsuccessful attempts.

It was at least the 7th attempt by a group calling itself the al-Ayyash Battalion — apparently named for a notorious Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, bombmaker killed by Israel — to fire rockets at Israeli towns and West Bank settlements in recent months.

The group said it had launched a rocket from the Jenin area at the Israeli town of Ram-On, adjacent to the northern West Bank security barrier.

A video published by the group on the Telegram messaging service showed a projectile mounted on a launcher before the video cut to show the rocket flying through the air.

There were no reports of damage or injuries as a result of the launch. It was unclear how far the projectile flew.

Paleostinian media outlets reported that Paleostinian Authority police found the launch site.

The Israel Defense Forces said the launcher was found in the village of Silat al-Harithiya, northwest of Jenin. Israeli troops were not planning to investigate the site, but instead leaving it to the PA security forces.

Al-Ayyash Battalion has claimed to have launched several rockets at settlements and towns in northern Israel in recent months, publishing footage of the attempts.

The group’s rocket launching attempts have largely failed, with the rockets containing no explosives and flying mostly distances of less than 100 meters (328 feet), according to the IDF. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
on July 9, security forces found the remains of a rocket in Ram-On, indicating that Lions of Islam in the Jenin area possess the capability to launch rockets for further distances than initially assessed.

Last week, Israeli troops arrested a member of the Hamas terror group in the Jenin refugee camp accused of being involved in the rocket launching attempts.

During a major IDF raid in Jenin in July, the military said troops located and seized a makeshift rocket, among other weapons.

In May, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar said security forces had foiled attempts by Paleostinians in the northern West Bank to manufacture rockets to be launched at Israel. Bar said the efforts were led by a senior Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

Death toll rises in Ain el-Helweh as Mikati rebukes Abbas
[An Nahar] Three fighters and a civilian have been killed in festivities over the past hours in the Ain el-Helweh Paleostinian refugee camp near Sidon, official media reported, as caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati rebuked Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

over the spiralling violence.

This latest round of fighting broke out late Thursday, just weeks after deadly violence in the camp pitted members of Abbas' Fatah movement against Islamist murderous Moslems.

Clashes inside the camp on Saturday killed "two people from Fatah" and an Islamist, while "a civilian was killed by a stray bullet" outside the camp, Leb

"What is taking place does not serve the Paleostinian cause at all and is a serious offense to the Lebanese state" and the city of Sidon, Mikati told Abbas in a phone call, his office said in a statement.

Mikati emphasized "the priority of ending military operations and cooperating with Lebanese security forces to address tensions," according to the statement on X, formerly Twitter.

Ain el-Helweh is home to more than 54,000 registered refugees and thousands of Paleostinians who joined them in recent years from Syria, fleeing war in the neighboring country.

Ceasefire reached after 3 days of renewed fighting in Palestinian camps in Lebanon

[IsraelTimes] Islamist factions in Leb’s largest Paleostinian refugee camp say they will abide by a ceasefire after three days of festivities killed at least five people and left hundreds of families displaced.

Fighting between Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement and Islamist groups has rocked southern Lebanon’s Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp since Friday. Besides the five killed, 52 others were maimed, Dr. Riad Abu al-Einen, who heads the al-Hamshari Hospital in Sidon that has received the casualties, tells The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

The interim chief of Lebanon’s General Security agency Elias al-Baysari says he will attend a meeting tomorrow between Paleostinian factions and urge the factions to reach a resolution.

The clashing factions in the camp say in a statement published today by Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency that they plan to abide by a ceasefire.
