Jewish billionaire quits Columbia Business School board over Jewish student safety
[IsraelTimes] Henry Swieca’s resignation comes amid protests by other supporters of elite universities in response to schools’ handling of campus protests in wake of Israel-Hamar war

A Jewish billionaire investor and philanthropist quit the board of Columbia Business School, saying the campus had become unsafe for Jews since the launch of the Israel-Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
war.

"With blatantly anti-Jewish student groups and professors allowed to operate with complete impunity, it sends a clear and distressing message that Jews are not just unwelcome, but also unsafe on campus," Henry Swieca said in an October 30 letter obtained Tuesday by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. "My resignation is an expression of my deep concern for the direction in which the university is heading."

The Board of Overseers is the school’s main fundraising arm.

Swieca, 66, is the founder in 2010 of Talpion Fund Management and the cofounder of Highbridge Capital Management, which was acquired by J.P. Morgan Chase in 2008. The child of Holocaust survivors, he has been a member of the business school’s Board of Overseers since 2014. Forbes lists his worth as $1.9 billion.

His resignation, which he did not announce publicly, comes amid a flurry of protests by Jewish supporters of elite universities in response to the schools’ handling of the Israel-Hamas war following October 7, when Hamas launched a shock onslaught, killing some 1,400 people and injuring thousands — mostly civilians — and taking at least 240 men, women and kiddies to Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
as hostages.

Prominent supporters of Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania have announced that they will or might no longer support their alma maters because of the presidents’ response to the war, and the private equity CEO Marc Rowan is reportedly trying to get others in the finance field to withhold donations over the issue.

In his letter, Swieca refers to a chant that has proliferated in anti-Israel protests since the launch of the war, "From the river to the sea," which is widely understood by its critics to call for a Paleostinian state that supersedes Israel.

"Statements from the university are meaningless when pro-Hamas students march on campus calling for the complete destruction of Israel," he said. Defenders of the phrase say it has evolved since it was coined in the 1960s, when it represented longings for Israel’s removal, to a call for a binational state.

The letter did not specify incidents. The Columbia campus has long been a hotbed of pro-Paleostinian activism, and student groups there called immediately after the attack for the school to cut ties with a program in Tel Aviv. On October 16, a 19-year-old allegedly assaulted a Columbia student who was putting up posters on campuses featuring hostages taken by Hamas during its attack. The campus was also briefly closed to the public because of unrest.

On October 30, the day Swieca dated his letter, Jewish students at the New York City university held a presser demanding more robust action to protect Jews. They noted that the university had not mentioned Hamas in its statements about the war.

The Jewish students cited as incidents of antisemitism the discovery of a swastika painted in a bathroom and listed other allegations, including that pro-Paleostinian students carried signs saying "resistance is not terrorism" during an on-campus walkout and that, at Columbia’s law school, a student said "F— the Jews" to a visibly Jewish student. They also said Jews were targeted with antisemitic tropes in group chats and demanded that Columbia specifically condemn Hamas which it had not done until then.

Talpion’s website says Swieca is the child of Holocaust survivors and grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood in New York City. It lists a number of philanthropies it backs, including the American Israel Education Fund, an arm of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and Meor, a Jewish heritage study program. He runs a grant program that pays out $10,000 for programs that advance Jewish education and outreach.

According to the Washington Post, Swieca also funded the expansion of an Israeli organization that aims to rebuild the ancient Jewish Temple in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount, a holy site for Moslems, an ambition that is widely understood as anti-Moslem.

Talpion’s website says that "the name of the company derives from the Biblical word ’Talpiot’, meaning a castle’s turret, and is also the name of a highly elite intelligence unit of the IDF."

#2  A better tactic would be for these rich board members to go back to their first donation to the school and loudly demand that the school return all donations made by said rich person during his / her lifetime, then sue them when they don't comply. At a minimum they'd be adding needed PSI on the school hacks.

#3  Ditto at Harvard University in Cambridge Mass last month as well. Sooner or later, these colleges will have to pick a side when it comes to these protesters, or staff sympathetic to the horrific killings of innocent Israeli citizens. Only time will tell, if these colleges come to heel or not, and put a stop to this crap.

The doxing of the protesters in Cambridge following their protests was interesting. I remember Occupy Wall Street, when the protesters did this to police officers, and others they didn't like. One reaps what they sow. Some companies and firms have been asking for the identities of these protestors when it comes to future employment.

Brandeis bans Students for Justice in Palestine, saying it ‘openly supports Hamas’
[IsraelTimes] University says support for Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
is not protected by institution’s free speech principles; SJP will no longer receive funding or be able to hold activities on campus

Brandeis University is revoking recognition of the campus chapter of Students for Justice in Paleostine, saying the group "openly supports Hamas."

Brandeis informed the student group on Monday about its decision, which means that the group will no longer receive university funding or be able to hold activities on campus. The group canceled a "Vigil for Paleostine" that had been scheduled for Monday night as a result.

"This decision was not made lightly, as Brandeis is dedicated to upholding free speech principles," the university wrote in its letter, which the Jewish Telegraphic Agency obtained.

SJP, which has a national umbrella group and campus chapters across the country, has spoken out in support of Hamas’s invasion of Israel. Brandeis said support for Hamas, which the United States has designated as a foreign terror group, is not protected by the university’s free speech principles.

"Students who choose to engage in conduct in support of Hamas, or engage in conduct that harasses or threatens violence, whether individually or through organized activity, will be considered to be in violation of the University’s student code of conduct," the letter says. "Students who wish to express their support for the rights of Paleostinian civilians may form another student organization, through established procedures, that complies with University policies."

The decision follows controversy at the university after its student senate voted down a resolution condemning Hamas — a move that others in the university community soundly rejected, including through an open letter that garnered more than 1,000 signatures in one day. The episode attracted national attention, in part because of Brandeis’s history as a non-sectarian school founded by the American Jewish community in the wake of the Holocaust.

It also follows pressure by Jewish groups for universities to withdraw funding for SJP in the wake of Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, when the group described the attack as "a historic win for Paleostinian resistance." Florida’s public university system banned SJP last month at the direction of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Britain
UK seeks pro-peace Palestinian leadership as soon as possible
[Jpost] A move towards a peace-loving leadership in Palestine is the most desired outcome in the Israel-Hamas conflict, British foreign minister James Cleverly said on Wednesday, reiterating Britain's support for a two-state solution.
As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.

"In the short term, it is inevitable that Israel, because they have the troops in Gaza, will need to have a security responsibility," Cleverly said at the G7 summit in Japan.
A glimmer of practicality?
Peace-loving leadership on the Arab side has always been the goal since 1947, when both the Jews and Arabs were offered homelands in the Palestine Mandate. I’ve seen nothing to suggest that this generation has produced anything of the sort. Nor will the next, so long as there is outside money feeding them the poison of hate.

Home Front: Politix
White House Aides "Simply Cannot Stomach" Biden's Israel Policy, Dissent Memos Leak, Revolt At State Dept
[ZH] A revolt is brewing within the Biden administration over how the White House is handling the Israel-Gaza war, as the civilian death toll and mass Palestinian displacement soars, and as Biden's top officials continue to say "no conditions" have been placed on how Israel uses US-supplied weapons. Pressure from the press pool is also piling on, with near daily spats and antagonistic back-and-forth exchanges on display in the State Department and White House briefing rooms.

This week there have emerged reports of scathing 'dissent memos' criticizing White House Israel policy being circulated, collecting many hundreds of signatures chiefly from among State Department and USAID staff. A primary theme of the pushback and pressure is that President Biden must change course on the Gaza crisis.

First, on Monday Politico obtained and published portions of a memo issued by State Department personnel giving a blistering critique which according to the publication argued that "among other things, the U.S. should be willing to publicly criticize the Israelis."

It was issued after the Biden's Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, repeatedly made clear that the US does not back a ceasefire, but is only sheepishly calling for brief humanitarian 'pauses'. Politico points out the memo represents a "growing loss of confidence" among Biden's corps of diplomats:

The message suggests a growing loss of confidence among U.S. diplomats in President Joe Biden’s approach to the Middle East crisis. It reflects the sentiments of many U.S. diplomats, especially at mid-level and lower ranks, according to conversations with several department staffers as well as other reports. If such internal disagreements intensify, it could make it harder for the Biden administration to craft policy toward the region.

The memo has two key requests: that the U.S. support a ceasefire, and that it balance its private and public messaging toward Israel, including airing criticisms of Israeli military tactics and treatment of Palestinians that the U.S. generally prefers to keep private.

The memo, marked "sensitive but unclassified' was sure to leak, and that was likely the point. It bluntly underscores that Biden's policy is hurting America's standing in the world as much of global opinion has been appalled at the Gaza death toll which this week surpassed 10,500.

The memo sates that the gap between Biden officials' private and public messaging "contributes to regional public perceptions that the United States is a biased and dishonest actor, which at best does not advance, and at worst harms, U.S. interests worldwide."

"We must publicly criticize Israel’s violations of international norms such as failure to limit offensive operations to legitimate military targets," the dissent memo continues. "When Israel supports settler violence and illegal land seizures or employs excessive use of force against Palestinians, we must communicate publicly that this goes against our American values so that Israel does not act with impunity."

#2  Gazans are just 'useful idiots' of the Iranian mullahs. The incredibly vicious initial attacks were to make sure Israel had no choice but to do what it is doing. In the process it will divide the West to the point it will not be able to come to the aid of Israel once the pan-Islam assaults begin. And that would mean (I think) the end of Israel - and quite possible the nuclear destruction of much of Iran. Next question is whether Iran itself is the useful idiot of China...

[IsraelTimes] With support from the Shoah Foundation, virtual repository October7.org documents eyewitness accounts of the Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
atrocities and translates them into four languages and counting.

Just two days after the October 7 Hamas massacres, as the first horrific testimonies of survivors became publicly known, Raz Elipsur and Adi Clinton, an Israeli brother-sister team, realized their stories had to be told to the world.

From the River to the Sea? Arab Citizens of Israel Say, No Thanks to ‘Liberation’
[FreeBeacon] Paleostinians and their allies have justified and even celebrated Hamas
...always the voice of sweet reason...
’s Oct. 7 massacre in Israel as a blow against Jewish oppression. But the 2 million Arab citizens of Israel have overwhelmingly responded by drawing closer to the Jewish state.

Among Arab Israelis, prominent media personalities have helped lead an unprecedented surge in support for their country and opposition to their self-proclaimed liberator Hamas. Pro-Israel arguments that were previously almost unspeakable in the Arab mainstream have in recent weeks gotten a respectful hearing.

#2  Hey wait, I thought that they were all civilians. It's not like they're wearing uniforms or something.

#3  Is he saying the Gaza civilians went in on gliders as well? or the glider patrol opened the gate so that Gaza civilians could join the attack?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
What the well dressed A-10 is wearing in the middle east right now
[The Drive] A group of A-10s deployed the Middle East last month to help deter Iran and its proxies amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.

Though the U.S. Air Force's A-10 Warthog ground attack jets look increasingly to be in the twilight of their careers, they are still being sent to places where they could find themselves in harm's way. Last month, a group of Warthogs touched down in the Middle East as part of a surge in U.S. forces into the region in response to the eruption of the latest Israel-Gaza conflict. Newly released pictures now offer an interesting look at the weapons loadouts on some of these jets as they sit ready to respond to contingencies.

U.S. Air Forces Central (AFCENT), the service's top command in the Middle East, posted the pictures of the A-10s belonging to the 354th Fighter Squadron loaded with a variety of live ordnance online earlier today. The Pentagon announced the 354th's Warthogs had arrived at an "undisclosed location" in the Middle East on October 12.

The new images show four A-10s all with the same basic warload.
Very much a see pics at the link post

#5  A-10 is so obsolete they wanted to retire it decades ago, but the military conflicts have continued to be so obsolete that the A-10 remains the best arrow in the quiver. Too vulnerable to fighters - but these enemies don't have them. Vulnerable to SAMs - but at the typical engagement altitude most of those won't work. Still the best (though not invulnerable) at surviving small arms fire in close ground support. Curious the MIComplex never actually tried to refill that important niche in air power - guess they couldn't find a way to make it epensive enough.
