I suspect Baby Boomers suffer from the same historical amnesia that the current generation suffers from. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Big cities prior to WW2 were corrupt. There just weren't as many big cities. There was also a short time in the 50s and early 60s when a lot of men who came back from the war wanted to make a difference in providing good governance. Enough to get at least a critical mass. That was a historical anomaly that the Baby Boomers lived through. It ain't natural.

When I was living in Birmingham, Alabama back in the '80s the successive mayors were all Democrat. All of them were charged and convicted of crimes. Since Birmingham is majority Wakandan I leave you with that tidbit.

Neel Nanda, a stand-up comedian perhaps best known for his appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party, has died, his manager Greg Weiss confirmed to Deadline. The cause of death is not immediately known. He was 32.
"I [am] deeply shocked and saddened by this. He was a wonderful comic, but a better person," Weiss said in a statement. "He had the world in front of him," Weiss added, noting he was fully booked with appearances throughout January and February.
The Port Comedy Club in Baltimore was among the first to pay tribute to Nanda on social media.
"It is with a very heavy heart we say goodbye to comedy great, Neel Nanda," reps for The Port Comedy Club posted Saturday on Instagram. "Absolutely shocked by the news. Such a positive force for comedy and a huge loss to our community. Rest in Peace Neel," adding "Thank you for gracing our stage and piano, a great headliner, gone too soon."
Born in Atlanta, GA to Indian immigrant parents, Nanda’s interest in comedy began as a young child, he told VC Reporter in a 2018 interview. He told the publication he would watch Comedy Central in middle school with a notebook in hand, writing down his favorite jokes, which he would retell at school.

On this day 160 years ago, 38 Dakota men were hanged following orders from Lincoln in the largest mass-hanging in U.S. history.
The execution happened in Mankato, Minnesota in front of some 4,000 spectators. Some historical accounts say that the men each held hands and sang a traditional Dakota song in the moments leading up to their deaths.
Often erased from history, the men’s hangings were direct consequences of the U.S. and Dakota War of 1862. The war was the result of broken treaties and broken promises from the U.S. government after Dakota land continued to be diminished.
The war lasted for over 37 days and resulted in the deaths of an estimated 77 U.S. soldiers and 29 Dakota warriors. The U.S. took more than 2,000 Dakota leaders into custody where many were eventually sentenced to prison, and others to death.
Lincoln ended up only approving the execution of Dakota leaders who were proven to have committed civilian massacres. While the 38 men approved for execution were awaiting their demise, 3,000 other tribal members and prisoners were being sent to Fort Snelling.

Does the British navy actually have an extra frigate it could spare for the duty?
[Barrons] Britain said Sunday it will divert a Royal Navy warship to waters off Guyana, after a long-simmering territorial dispute between the South American ally and Venezuela recently flared again.
The British patrol vessel, HMS Trent, will arrive in the region later this month to conduct "engagements", the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
It follows escalating tensions after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro renewed his country's century-old claim to Guyana's oil-rich Essequibo region.
However, the South American neighbours agreed earlier this month not to resort to force to settle the dispute.
In a brief statement, Britain's MoD said: "HMS Trent will visit regional ally and Commonwealth partner Guyana later this month as part of a series of engagements in the region during her Atlantic patrol task deployment."
The vessel is in Barbados over Christmas and will then head to waters off the mainland of Guyana, according to reports.
The ship is not expected to dock in Georgetown, its capital, because the port is too shallow, the BBC said.
The first to report on the deployment, the broadcaster said it was intended as "a show of diplomatic and military support for the former British colony".
A UK foreign minister, David Rutley, visited Guyana earlier this month and reiterated sovereign borders "must be respected" and that London would work internationally "to ensure the territorial integrity of Guyana is upheld".
Caracas has long claimed Essequibo, which makes up about two-thirds of Guyana's territory, and has ratcheted up its rhetoric over it in recent months.
It followed Guyana, which has governed the area for more than 100 years, issuing licenses for oil companies to operate there.
Don't underestimate the power of that flag on a ship with the letters 'HMS' in front of its name.
