Afghan intelligence release new footage of Mafia Boss Raees Khudaidad
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan Intelligence National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) released a new footage of the Mafia Boss Raees Khudaidad on Sunday.

The new footage was released shortly after rumors went viral suggesting that Raees Khudaidad has broken jail.

Khudaidad speaking in the video says he is still kept inside a cell operated by the Afghan intelligence.

He was one of the most dangerous, prominent and skilled Mafia leaders in Afghanistan and was involved in major kidnap, murder and robbery cases across the country during the past few years, who was leading networks of criminal gangs in Kabul and other provinces.

Khudaidad was arresting following a special military operation conducted in the fifth police district of Kabul city late in the month of September last year.

According to NDS, Khudaidad was living in Tajikistan, Pakistain and United Arab Emirates with different identities and was in the most wanted list of Tajikistan and Interpol.

Afghanistan rally hails Charlie Hebdo attackers as 'heroes'
[CA.NEWS.YAHOO] Hundreds in southern Afghanistan rallied to praise the killing of 12 people at the French newspaper Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
, calling the two gunnies "heroes" who meted out punishment for cartoons disrespectful to Islam's prophet, officials said Saturday.

The demonstrators also protested President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
's swift condemnation of the bloody attack on the satirical newspaper, according to the officials in Uruzgan province.

The rally came after worshippers left Friday prayers at a local mosque in Chora district and swelled to several hundred people, said Chora police chief Abdul Qawi.

"The protesters were calling the attackers heroes and were shouting that those who had mocked the Prophet Mohammad were punished," Qawi said.

Provincial police chief Matiullah Khan said that police had been informed in advance of the demonstration, which was allowed under the Afghan constitution's free-speech provisions.

"They provided good security and it was peaceful," he said.

Afghanistan's Caped President Ghani issued a condemnation the day after the newspaper attack saying "there is no justification for this brutal act".

#3  Time to restate the obvious:

Liberated Afghanistan is a monstrously intolerant Sharia abomination.

'Afghan President Hamid Karzai reiterated his condemnation of the cartoons and called on western nations to take "a strong measure" to ensure such cartoons do not appear again. "It's not good for anybody," he told CNN.'

Ghani's condemnation is a lie!

The OIC has officially demanded Sharia restrictions be imposed on non-Muslims in the West. In Afghanistan the cartoonists would have been executed. Afghan law was enforced in France.

Neither Afghanistan nor the Islamic world were taught the proper lessons. This wasn't done in 2001, nor in 2006 nor at any later time.

Now we're suffering the consequences aka 'a strong measure.'

Kouachi Brothers Had No Links with Algeria, Says Minister
A useful datum...
[AnNahar]. The two brothers who killed 12 people at French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
had no links with Algeria, Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said Sunday.

"They were never interested in obtaining Algerian papers, even if their father had at one time," Lamamra, told French radio station RFI.
"Non, non, certainement pas!"
Said Kouachi, 34, and Cherif, 32 were rubbed out on Friday by police after a tense stand-off which ended when they charged out of the building they were holed up in, guns blazing.

"It is important not to identify these French citizens by their origins," stressed Lamamra, who was in Gay Paree Sunday to attend a mass rally against extremism.

Bashir launches reelection bid
[ARABNEWS] Sudans President Omar Al-Bashir launched his bid for reelection Sunday, facing little threat to his quarter century in power despite an ailing economy, multiple insurgencies and allegations of war crimes.

Bashirs supporters view him as a strong hand capable of holding the chaotic country together, while his opponents are hounded by the security forces, marginalized inside Sudan and riven by personal rivalries.

It is unclear whether anyone will challenge Bashir to lead the country of nearly 39 million people.

Formal applications to register for the April 13 vote opened on Sunday, and the electoral commission said it had already received Bashirs nomination.

The opposition looks set to boycott the vote, as it did in 2010 in the first contested election since Bashir seized power in a 1989 coup.

Arabia
Both brothers behind Paris attack had weapons training in Yemen
[Ynet]. Both brothers who carried out the attack against satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
travelled to Yemen via Oman in 2011 and had weapons training in the deserts of Marib, an al Qaeda stronghold, two senior Yemeni sources said on Sunday.

This is the first confirmation by Yemeni officials that both Cherif and Said Kouachi, who carried out the bloodiest Islamist attack

on the West in decades, had visited Yemen where al Qaeda's deadliest franchise, AQAP, is based. One Yemeni source had previously confirmed a visit by Said Kouachi.

"These two brothers arrived in Oman on July 25, 2011, and from Oman they were smuggled into Yemen where they stayed for two weeks," a senior Yemeni security official, who declined to be named, said.

"They met (al Qaeda preacher) Anwar al-Awlaki
... Born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, zapped in Yemen, al-Awlaki was a dual citizen of the U.S. and Yemen. He was an Islamic holy man who was a trainer for al-Qaeda and its franchises. His sermons were attended by three of the 9/11 hijackers, by Fort Hood murderer Nidal Malik Hussein, and Undieboomer Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. He was the first U.S. citizen ever placed on a CIA target list...
and then they were trained for three days in the deserts of Marib on how to fire a gun. They returned to Oman and they left Oman on Aug. 15, 2011 to go back to La Belle France."

A senior Yemeni intelligence source confirmed the brothers had entered Yemen via Oman in 2011, citing the ease with which they entered while the security forces were focused on the Arab Spring protests that were convulsing the country at the time.

The source also confirmed the brothers had met Awlaki "and trained in Wadi Abida," - which is between Marib and Shabwa provinces where Awlaki was known to move freely.

Britain
David Cameron: Today is about solidarity with the French
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
was among world leaders and ordinary citizens who poured into Gay Paree to attend a rally to show international solidarity in the wake of the La Belle France terror crisis.

Speaking from Gay Paree, Mr Cameron said that the importance of today was to "show solidarity with the French people and the French government".

He said: "We're here to demonstrate that we all stand for the values of democracy, freedom, freedom of expression and tolerance". But he also warned that people in Britannia face a similar threat of fanatical extremism to what Gay Paree has experienced this week, and that "we have to confront that in every way we can".

Paris attacks: 'It's wrong to say attacks nothing to do with Islam' says Culture Secretary Sajid Javid
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] People who claim that the recent spate of terrorist attacks in France have nothing to do with Islam are both lazy and wrong, the Culture Secretary has said.

Sajid Javid, a Muslim, called on Britains Islamic community to contact the police if they suspect someone they know has been radicalised or may be vulnerable to the influence of hate preachers.

The people carrying out these acts what we have seen just horrifically this week in Paris, what has happened in London, in Madrid, in Peshawar these people, they call themselves Muslims, he told the BBC on Sunday.

The lazy answer I think from people out there would be to say, Look, this has got nothing whatsoever to do with Islam or Muslims, and that should be the end of that part of the debate.

He added: It would be wrong, because you cant get away from the fact that these people are using Islam, they are taking a great religion, a very peaceful religion adhered to by more than a billion people around the world, and using it as their tool to carry out their horrible activities.

The Conservative MP added that people should report anyone they fear may have been radicalised. It is important for anyone in Britain, whatever background they are from, of any faith or none, if they know anything, if they think someone might be radicalised or is being tempted, they should report that to the authorities without delay, he said.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Kadyrov threatens Radio Echo over Charlie Hebdo poll
The Charlie Hebdo fallout spilled out over the North Caucasus and Moscow on Friday. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov threatened Moscow's Radio Echo after it ran a poll, asking its listeners whether media should publish cartoons depicting Mohammad. 68 percent said yes, the cartoons should be published and 30 percent said no.

Within the hour later, Kadyrov posted on Twitter that that Echo’s editor-in-chief, Aleksei Venediktov, had insulted Muslims and said, "There are those who will bring Venediktov to account."

Kadyrov wrote, "Venediktov has long ago converted Echo of Moscow into the main anti-Islamic horn." If authorities did not restrict the radio that "incites animosity and hatred among people and nations," Kadyrov continued, “There will be people to make Venediktov responsible."

Venediktov and his reporters responded to the threat by wearing white T-shirts with "Je suis Charlie," and said that Echo's reporting was balanced and professional.

Kadyrov began his Friday morning by tweeting a picture of himself speaking in a black uniform. In the caption, Kadyrov calls the former boss of Yukos Oil Company his "personal enemy" and "enemy of all Muslims" for calling for the publication of Mohammad cartoons. Kadyrov said that in Europe, where Khodorkovsky now lives, there would be people able to call the oilman to account.

Europe
March Through Paris Honors Terror Victims
[VOA News] French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
briefly led hundreds of thousands of people through the streets of Gay Paree on Sunday, in a massive demonstration to show solidarity with the victims of a terror spree last week that killed 17 people.

More than 40 heads of state from Europe, the Middle East and Africa linked arms to form a human chain with Hollande, as crowds swelled behind them at the "unity" rally. While Gay Paree police said the turnout was "without precedent" but too large to count, most media accounts said as many as 1 million people erupted into the streets on Sunday.

Immediately to Hollande's left, walked German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
and to his right Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita. La Belle France intervened to help fight Salafist tough guys there two years ago to the day.

Among the scores of world leaders were British Prime Minister David Cameron

attack and their families.

Later Sunday night, Hollande and Netanyahu attended a memorial ceremony at the Grand Synagogue in Gay Paree for the victims of Friday's terror attack at a kosher supermarket.
Update at 8:40 a.m. ET from An Nahar with the Bibi backstory:
Reports Said Netanyahu Defied France to Join Paris March

La Belle France had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stay away from a weekend solidarity march in Gay Paree but he ignored the request and attended anyway, Israeli media reported.

The same message was conveyed to Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
in a bid to avoid the commemoration of the 17 people killed in Islamist attacks in the French capital last week being clouded by the Middle East conflict, the reports said.

But when Netanyahu rejected the appeals of the French government, Abbas was swiftly invited, Channel Two television and Israeli newspapers reported.

President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
had wanted to "focus on solidarity with La Belle France, and to avoid anything liable to divert attention to other controversial issues, like Jewish-Moslem relations or the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict," the liberal Haaretz newspaper reported.

There was also concern Netanyahu would use the event to "make speeches" as he prepares for a March 17 general election, in which he is seeking a fourth term.

The request to stay away was made by Hollande's national security adviser, Jacques Audibert, to his Israeli counterpart, Yossi Cohen, and was initially accepted, Haaretz reported.

But on Saturday evening, the rightwing prime minister's hardline rivals in the governing coalition, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, announced they would travel to Gay Paree.

"When Netanyahu heard they were going, he informed the French he would be attending the march after all."

Haaretz said that the prime minister's actions had infuriated the French president, who had demonstrated his "anger" at a ceremony at Gay Paree's main synagogue to commemorate four Jews who were among those killed.

"Hollande sat through most of the ceremony, but when Netanyahu's turn at the podium arrived, the French president got up from his seat and made an early exit."

The mass circulation Yediot Aharonot newspaper also reported the apparent snub to the Israeli premier.

"Before Netanyahu began his speech, President Hollande left with his entourage... The impressive delegation of leaders from the Moslem community who attended the ceremony also chose to leave. They all, apparently, had prior commitments."

#5  To me this ceremony was the death rattle of civilization in Western Europe.

Western leaders palling around and demonstrating unity with OIC regimes where the cartoonist would have received the death penalty (de facto if not de jure) was an ugly sight.

The killers gave the OIC exactly what it had demanded for years:
Sharia punishment for critics of Islam in the West.

It is a badge of honor for the US not to have participated in this sorry spectacle, though I suspect Obama made the right decision for the wrong reasons.

Violence 'not product of Islam'
[ARABNEWS] French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
has called for vigilance and unity in the face of the shocking acts of violence in the European country.

Hollande, addressing the nation, appealed to his citizens that they not see the violence this week as the product of Islam, but rather as the acts of fanatics that have nothing to do with the Moslem religion.

He also seemed to prepare the nation for a new era of uncertainty. La Belle France is not finished with this threat, he said.

The United States on Friday warned Americans to beware of terrorist actions and violence all over the world, following the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
magazine and a Jewish supermarket in Gay Paree.

Recent terrorist attacks, whether by those affiliated with terrorist entities, copycats, or individual perpetrators, serve as a reminder that US citizens need to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness, the State Department said. Around 700,000 people have poured out onto the streets of La Belle France on Saturday to pay tribute to the 17 people killed during three days of terror, the interior minister said.

Around 700,000 people have marched" in cities around La Belle France, Bernard Cazeneuve told news hounds.

European leaders will make an extraordinary show of support for La Belle France by joining a mass rally in Gay Paree this weekend.

British Prime Minister David Cameron

and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, whose countries have suffered major terror attacks in the past decade, were among the first to say they would attend a huge rally in Gay Paree on Sunday.

America snubs historic Paris rally
Holder skipped out of proceedings early, Kerry was in India, Obama and Biden just stayed home

President Barack Obama and other top members of his administration have snubbed a historic rally in Paris today that brought together more than 40 world leaders from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and even Russia.
'France is our oldest ally,' Obama said during a speech Friday in Tennessee. 'I want the people of France to know that the United States stands with you today, stands with you tomorrow.'

But he wasn't standing in Paris as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas put aside their differences and linked arms. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov made the same unifying gesture in the march down the Place de la Concorde in defiance of the Islamist terror attacks that rocked the city last week.

According to an administration official, President Obama spent part of his Sunday afternoon watching a National Football League game on television. Both games were broadcast hours after the march.
How 'bout them Packers, huh Champ?
Heads of state from every major European power, including British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, joined French President Francois Hollande.

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden remained in Washington, despite having no events on their public schedules Sunday. Secretary of State John Kerry was a world away in India, on a pre-planned trip.
Isn't this what vice-presidents are for?
Attorney General Eric Holder was in Paris for a terrorism summit held on the march's sidelines, but he slipped away and made appearances on four American morning television talk shows just as the incredible rally was starting.

The US was represented at the march only by Jane Hartley, the American ambassador to France who is unrecognizable to most Americans, let alone the rest of the world.

A senior administration official was quick to point out, however, that 'Attorney General Holder – a Cabinet level official – is representing the United States at the security meetings in Paris today.'
Not even Jen Penski could stir herself to make a statement?
'He is joined by the DHS Deputy Secretary [Alejandro] Mayorkas,' the official added in a statement to many news outlets.
'The United States is represented at the march by Ambassador Hartley.'

And 'as far as public signs of French solidarity from the U.S.,' the official concluded, 'don't forget several public statements from the president, his call to Hollande and a condolence stop to the French embassy.'
More words. From Champ. That'll do a lot of good. Much, much more criticism from just about everyone, from Newt Gingrich to Fareed Zakaria, at the link.

Spain wants to modify Schengen rules to allow border checks
The times, they are a-changing.
[Ynet]. Spain's Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz said Sunday he will make the case in Gay Paree for a modification to the Schengen treaty allowing border controls in order to limit the movements of Islamic fighters returning to Europe from the Middle East.

"We are going to back border controls and it is possible that as a consequence it will be necessary to modify the Schengen treaty," he told the daily El Pais ahead of a ministerial meeting on the subject in Gay Paree.

Paris attacks boost support for Dutch anti-Islam populist Wilder
[Ynet]. Support for the anti-Islamic Freedom Party of Dutch populist Geert Wilders has jumped to its highest level in more than a year after the Islamist bully boy attacks in Gay Paree.

Wilders, known for his inflammatory rhetoric, said after the Gay Paree bloodshed that the West was "at war" with Islam, drawing a rebuke from Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Sunday.

If elections were held now, his party would be the single largest in the Netherlands, with 31 seats in the 150-member parliament, more than twice as many as it won in the last elections, according to a Sunday poll.

Wilders this week called in an interview for measures against Islam: "If we don't do anything, it will happen here," he was quoted by the newspaper Het Parool as saying.

But speaking to Dutch public television shortly before leaving to attend a peace rally in Gay Paree, the Dutch prime minister distanced himself from Wilders's comments.

"I would never use the word 'war,'" he said. "We are in a struggle with bully boyz who are using a belief as an excuse for attacks."

Prosecutor's office: 5 detained over Paris attacks freed
[Ynet]. The Gay Paree prosecutors' spokeswoman says five people detained in connection with the three days of bloodshed in La Belle France have been released from custody.

Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre said the five were freed from custody late Saturday.
And the day before:
Teen 'in Shock' after Wrongly Linked to Charlie Hebdo Attack

[AnNahar]. Mourad Hamyd describes himself as a normal 18-year-old who lives with his parents but on the day La Belle France was gripped by the Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
massacre, he became known as "the third suspect" -- even though he was in class at the time of the shooting.

The brother-in-law of one of the two gunnies turned himself into police on Wednesday, horrified and baffled to hear his name circulating in the news and on social media.

But the teenager was released without charge on Friday evening, relieved but badly shaken.

"I was stunned, completely overwhelmed by the events but the coppers were very correct with me," the visibly tired high school student told Agence La Belle France Presse in the presence of his lawyer Marie Calleghaer and several family members.

Numerous witnesses verified he was in school when brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi bumped off 12 people at the Gay Paree office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
, kicking off three days of violence that left a total of 17 people dead and traumatised a nation.

"I'm in shock, people said horrible and false things about me on social media even though I am a normal student who lives quietly with his parents," said the bespectacled teenager who one day hopes to study medicine. "The attack was horrific and my thoughts are with the victims."

It remains unclear how Hamyd, who until this week was completely unknown to the police, became linked to the magazine attack.

But as he reflected on his name appearing in news reports and online posts across the world, he said he feared the wrongful accusation would haunt him for years to come.

"I only hope this won't taint my future," he said.

"I have nothing to do with this whole thing, Cherif is just my brother-in-law with whom we have a fairly distant relationship," he said, adding that Cherif lived in the Gay Paree region and rarely visited his northern home town.

Hamyd's sister, who is married to Cherif, was taken into custody on Wednesday and freed on Saturday.

"I am sure she is also innocent," an unnamed relative told AFP.

As La Belle France prepared for a huge march in Gay Paree in honour of the victims on Sunday, Hamyd's family told AFP they would attend a rally in their town of Charleville-Mezieres to pay their own tribute.

But Hamyd, hoping to fade back into anonymity as soon as possible, won't be joining them.

The young woman was released after 72 hours in detention, during which she "expressed outrage and condemnation of the violence." She also expressed "thought for the victims" and had "the same reaction as the national community," the lawyer said.

German anti-Islam rally Monday to raise new tensions
[USATODAY] A massive march by anti-Islam nationalists planned for Monday threatens to raise new religious tensions and potential violence in Europe in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks in Gay Paree by radical Moslems.

Germany's justice minister on Sunday urged the group called Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA) to cancel its demonstration, but the group vowed to go ahead with a rally that will commemorate the 17 people killed in the Gay Paree attacks.

The group has held weekly rallies to protest Germany's growing immigrant population, mainly Moslems fleeing the war in Syria in recent years.

"It's outrageous they want to commemorate victims that until last week they insulted as liars," Justice Minister Heiko Maas told the popular tabloid Bild, calling for the group to cancel Monday's rally.

World leaders walk in 'unity rally' in France
Lovely -- now all those feeling have been expressed, what will y'all do about your little Islamist war?

The day was emotional and peaceful, a gesture of unity just days after Islamic Death Eaters slaughtered 17 people.

World leaders joined French President Francois Hollande

Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
, German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. The day also brought together an unlikely duo at the rally: Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Irish Muslims hear fierce denunciation of Islamic extremists
[IRISHTIMES] The al-Mustafa Islamic Educational and Cultural Centre is at the back of a garage in a large industrial estate. It is a peripheral location in west Dublin. If Irish Muslims are feeling isolated given what is happening in their name elsewhere, they were told at Friday prayers this week not to be afraid to speak out.
I'm guessing there aren't enough Moslems in Ireland to put together a good riot.
According to the CIA Factbook, Muslims comprise 1.1% of Ireland's 4.8 million residents. Will that do, riotwise?
The congregation heard a fierce denunciation by their imam, Shaykh Dr Umar al-Qadri, of what was being done in the name of their religion. He described the perpetrators of violence in France, Pakistan and Nigeria as being the biggest blasphemers of all and anti-Islamic.

The Prophet Muhammad had condemned extremists in his own time and warned there were those who had the appearance of Muslims who often perpetuated the foulest deeds themselves. He had described extremists as the gods of hell. The prophet had been mocked and insulted, but had never resorted to violence, he pointed out.

Dr al-Qadri said Muslims must accept that there was a problem with extremists hijacking their faith. There was no point in blaming the United States or the Jews because Muslims themselves were the greatest victims of extremists.

He referenced the killing of 140 children in Pakistan recently by the Taliban and the indiscriminate shooting of civilians by Boko Haram in Nigeria as two such incidents.

We as Muslims must admit and must accept that there is a problem of extremism among Muslims. We cannot deny it IS [Islamic State], Boko Haram, Taliban, al-Qaeda. After accepting and acknowledging it, then we must put our heads together to do something about it.

Those who spoke to The Irish Times after the service were equally emphatic in their condemnation of recent events.

Dr Ahsan Alam, a trauma surgeon in Tullamore who is originally from Pakistan, said the most important victims of terrorism were Muslims themselves. There are more than a billion Muslims. These terrorists bring a bad name to us.

Abdul Qadri, from Nigeria, said radicals had given the impression that Islam was a religion of killing. It makes us feel uneasy in the community. We dont want to be identified with this. We dont want people to see us as terrorists. We are a religion of peace.

Naveed Shaik, who is married to an Irish woman, said he grew up in a part of India where tolerance and respect for other faiths were the norm. They are not Muslims, they are khawarij, these are terrorists. They are not representing true religion.

Rally largest in France's history
France's Interior Ministry said the Paris rally for unity against terrorism Sunday was the largest demonstration in France's history—a march organized to show harmony after three days of attacks that left 17 dead.

Calling the rally "unprecedented," the ministry said the demonstrators were so numerous they spread beyond the official march route, making them impossible to count. French media estimate up to 3 million are taking part, more than the numbers who took to Paris streets when the Allies liberated the city from the Nazis in World War II.

"It's a different world today," said Parisian Michel Thiebault, 70. He was among a crowd wildly cheering police as their vans made their way through the crowd — a sound unheard of at the frequent protests held in France, where police and demonstrators are often at odds.

Their arms linked, more than 40 world leaders headed the somber procession, setting aside their differences for a manifestation that French President Francois Hollande said turned the city into "the capital of the world."
If you mean weak, ineffectual and unwilling to confront harsh truths, then yes, Paris is the capital of the world...
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood near the ineffectual Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also marched.

The deadly attacks on a satirical newspaper, kosher market and police marked a turning point for France that some compared to Sept. 11. In the weeks and months ahead, the cruelty will test how attached the French — an estimated 5 million of whom are Muslims — really are to their liberties and to each other.
Oh yes, we can't be too careful in how we treat citizens who are sheltering those who would kill us...
The aftermath of the attacks remained raw, with video emerging of one of the gunmen killed during police raids pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group and detailing how the attacks were going to unfold. Also, a new shooting was linked to that gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, who was killed Friday along with the brothers behind a massacre at satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in nearly simultaneous raids by security forces.

Home Front: WoT
US: Group behind Paris attacks still unknown
In which the honorable US Attorney General Eric Inaction Jackson Holder
... aka Mister Fast and Furious...
points out that we can't possibly do anything until we have evidence that will stand up in court.
[IsraelTimes]. Al-Qaedas branch in Yemen said it directed assault, while one of killers apparently pledged allegiance to Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Sunday
...that'd be this:
Paris attacker pledged allegiance to Islamic State in video
Clip surfaces of slain gunman Amedy Coulibaly admitting killing policewoman, link to Charlie Hebdo shooters
...
there was no credible information as yet that al-Qaeda was behind the attacks in La Belle France that killed 17 people.
They claimed it? Go get 'em. And there's evidence of allegiance to the other guys? Go get them, too. If later a third party appears culpable, apologize to the ghosts of the first two, and wipe out the third. Let there be a proper reward -- Darwin's reward. As pro-science types, Mr.Holder, et al must be all for that.
Holder spoke as dozens of heads of states joined hundreds of thousands of people in a massive display of unity and defiance against terrorism on the streets of Gay Paree.
Or possibly 3.7 million -- such things are hard to say until the experts have looked at the overhead photographs of the crowd.
At this point, we dont have any credible information that would allow us to make a determination as to which organization was responsible for the attacks this week, Holder said in an interview from Gay Paree with ABCs This Week.

Well certainly have to see exactly who was responsible (to) determine what kind of retaliation would be appropriate, he said. But we stand in solidarity with the French.

The White House, meanwhile, announced it was organizing a February 18 summit on how to fight violent extremism around the world.

The gathering will bring together all of our allies to discuss ways in which we can counteract this violent extremism that exists around the world, Holder said.

Only if we work together, through sharing of information, by pooling our resources, will we ultimately be able to defeat those who are in a struggle with us about our fundamental values.

In a statement, the White House said the summit would highlight US and international efforts to prevent the radicalization and recruitment of followers in the United States and other countries by krazed killer groups.

Violence fuels debate among Muslims over interpreting faith
[Ynet]. Saudi Arabia's top body of Muslim clerics quickly condemned Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris but only days later young Saudi whipped for insulting Islam; contradiction points to difficulties of debate on how to reject radical Islamists.

After gunnies in Gay Paree killed 12 people, Saudi Arabia's top body of Moslem holy mans quickly condemned the attack and said it could have no acceptable justification. It was a signal from some of the Islamic world's strictest voices that cartoons lampooning the Prophet Muhammad in the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo were not a reason to kill the artists.

However,

#1  There is already violence among Muslims over interpretations, but it's one-sided. The snake has all the lines.

#2  Has there been any reaction in the Muzzie world to the speech by El Sisi?

That would seem to be the hinge point for this discussion.

#3  The biggest problem is that Quran was "dictated" verbatim to Mohammed. To Muslims, it cannot be interpreted or changed.

#5  Really sad that the God of Islam is so weak he can't fight his own battles and needs to bring in his followers to do it. I mean in the old Testament God was wasting cities that displeased him. Heck, he flooded the whole world at one point. Yet the God of Islam can't even bring down a lightning bolt or heart attack???

#6  Yeah... he's a pretty pathetic god (lower case).
Can't take criticism, rejection, competition, etc... There is probably a nasty-sounding physiological name for the condition but that's not my area.

Philippine troops on red alert for papal visit
Thousands of troops and police in the Philippines are on high alert for the this week's visit from Pope Francis, his first to the country. As many as 37,000 security personnel are involved in the Manila area and the island of Leyte, where the pope will make two stops.

The pontiff arrives in Manila on Thursday from Sri Lanka and departs on Monday, Jan. 19. The pope is expected to speak about respect between Christians and Muslims during his visit, which will include appearances in areas devastated by a recent typhoon.

Philippine officials say they have received no specific "credible" intelligence on possible terrorist plots against the pope during his visit to the Philippines but are not complacent, especially after recent events in Paris.

A spokesman for the Maoist New People's Army said "since most of our fighters are Catholics,
They're fanatics, but not about their religion.
it was just fitting to pay respect during Pope Francis' visit in the country by extending the ceasefire [begun at Christmas]. We are extending the ceasefire (period) until after the visit of Pope Francis."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian army chief visits Quneitra, Syrian Golan
[Ynet]. The Syrian army's chief of staff, General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub, went on an unexpected tour of the Quneitra area and the Syrian Golan Heights this week amid the cold and snowy weather.
Did he have any Russians with him, perchance?
The army commander arrived in the area to "assess the troops' preparedness," or rather the preparedness of the troops still left in the area after the Syrian regime lost most of the control of the border area and large parts of Quneitra to al-Qaeda rebel group al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
Front.

During the tour of several Syrian army posts in Quneitra, Ayyoub was surveying the area accompanied by the Syrian army's top brass.

Iran Nuclear Chief Insists on Enrichment ahead of Talks
[AnNahar]. Iran's atomic agency chief insisted Sunday on Tehran's demands for increased uranium enrichment, days before the resumption of thorny talks with world powers in Geneva.
"You want our help with ISIS. Here's our price," he didn't add aloud.
Ali Akbar Salehi, a former foreign minister and ex-nuclear negotiator for the Islamic republic, said that within eight years the country would need 12 times more enriched uranium than at present.

Iran's level of uranium enrichment -- the process that produces atomic fuel -- has been a key stumbling block in reaching a deal with the P5+1 powers (Britannia, China, La Belle France, Russia, the United States plus Germany) on Tehran's contentious nuclear programme.

"We currently produce 2.5 tons but will need 30 tons eventually," Salehi, head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation, was quoted as saying by official news agency IRNA.

"They refuse... and ask that we reduce the number of centrifuges (the machines that enrich uranium)," Salehi said.

"We must have that right in eight years... we are ready to do this in stages. They can set the first step but we want to set the last step."

With a comprehensive nuclear deal at stake by a June 30 deadline, the negotiations have stalled on key issues.

Big gaps remain on uranium enrichment and the time it will take to lift extensive international sanctions imposed on Iran as punishment for its nuclear activities.

Following a preliminary agreement in November 2013, two deadlines for a final deal have been missed with talks failing to pin down hard details on what an approved Iranian nuclear programme would look like.

Under the interim deal, Iran's stock of fissile material has been diluted from 20 percent enriched uranium to five percent in exchange for limited sanctions relief.

This would push back the "breakout capacity" to make an atomic weapon, which Iran denies pursuing.

Salehi also reiterated Iran's demand for an eventual enrichment capacity of 190,000 SWU (separative work units), which was first set out by the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last July.

In Geneva, US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
will meet Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday, with lower-level P5+1 meetings on January 18.

Salehi also pointed to a third difficulty -- the time period the West considers necessary for confidence-building measures to ensure Iran's nuclear programme is peaceful.

"We want this period to be less than 10 years," he said, noting that the P5+1 powers want it to last "between 10 and 20 years".

In a sign that difficulties lie ahead, Khamenei last week used a public speech to voice distrust of the United States in the talks, citing its "arrogance" over the steps to be taken to lift sanctions.

Khamenei, as Iran's top authority, will have the last word on any final agreement.
