Abdullah urges regional countries to act against the terror safe havens
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chief Executive of the National Unity Government of Afghanistan has urged the regional countries to assist Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and take decisive actions against the safe havens of the terror groups in their soil.

He made the remarks during his speech at the 73rd General Assembly of the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
in New York on Wednesday night.

"All stakeholders need to agree to treat all shades of terrorism as one, shut down the breeding grounds and sanctuaries and to prosecute or repatriate the violators," Abdullah said.

He also added that the response thus far has been sparse and insufficient, emphasizing that "We are working with all countries near and far to bring about better results."

Abdullah also added that "We have asked our neighboring states, especially Pakistain, to help targeted societies ‐ including their own ‐ deal with this menace. We are looking forward to the timely and elective implementation of the recently agreed Afghanistan-Pakistain Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APPAPS)."

This comes as the Afghan and U.S. officials have long been claiming that the myrmidon and terrorist groups, particularly the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network, use their safe havens in Pakistain to plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the Pak officials have repeatedly rejected the claims of the Afghan and U.S. officials.

Egypt arming Sinai tribesmen in fight against Islamic State
[IsraelTimes] Bedouin forces to man checkpoints, accompany military patrols deep inside the peninsula where their local knowledge gives them an advantage

In a remote outpost in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, Ibrahim Abu-Sefira watches a mountainous skyline of jagged rock, ears tuned to the twilight silence, listening for any signs a fragile peace may be disturbed.

An elder from the Bedouin Tayaha tribe, he has seen armies, both Egyptian and Israeli, pass through this vast desert. Now the area is the center of a yearslong, bloody conflict between the Egyptian military and a local affiliate of the Islamic State

#1  Obama and Hillary's friend, Mo. Morsy, opened Egypt's prisons and the Islamic Jihad and Gamaat took off for the Sinai where they organized support for the Muslim Brotherhood leadership and then the resistance to Sisi. Egyptian military has had one hell of a time rooting them out thanks to the infusion of new Islamist blood through Gaza . It appears that Egypt has finally turned the corner in Sinai if it is now receiving bedouin support.

Yemen president at UN says talks with Houthis ‘doomed to fail’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Yemen’s president on Wednesday dismissed UN-led attempts to bring Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels to peace talks as "doomed to fail," telling the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
that a firm stance was needed to end the war.

Earlier this month, the Houthis failed to turn up at talks convened by a UN peace envoy in Geneva, leaving peace efforts in disarray as the Yemeni situation worsens.

"All attempts at peace that are made with this group are doomed to fail," President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi told the UN General Assembly, describing the Houthis as "forces of Evil who employ gangster-like tactics" and "create hate."

"Peace cannot be obtained by cajoling those gangsters as some member-states do," he said.

The United Nations invited Hadi’s government and the Houthis to Geneva to re-start talks that broke down in 2016.

But the Iran-aligned Houthis refused to leave the capital Sanaa, which they hold, and put forward a series of last-minute demands for the evacuation of maimed and the release of prisoners.

Hadi said the international community must be "resolute" and stick to Security Council resolutions that call on the Houthis to withdraw from territory they have seized.

has been leading the Arab Coalition to help restore Hadi’s internationally recognized government to power and push back the Houthis.

The United States, along with La Belle France and Britannia, have supported the Arab Coalition in Yemen.

Yemeni govt confirms its refusal to extend mission of UN team of experts
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Yemeni government confirmed its refusal to extend the mission of the United Nations

team of experts in Yemen.

The government expressed in a statement today, published by Yemen's official news agency, its disappointment with some international mechanisms in dealing with the Yemeni crisis, which has politicized its mandate in a way that complicates the situation in Yemen.

The statement accused the group of prominent regional and international experts of "politicizing the status of rights in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...

It pointed out that the report deliberately covered the crime of armed militias attack and control of institutions of a state based on the power of arms, and clearly biased towards the Houthi

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The front man for the Arab coalition backing the legitimate government in Yemen, Colonel Turki al-Maliki, denied media reports about issuing an arrest warrant against an official in Yemen’s al-Mahra governorate.

"The incorrect and misleading media reported the issuance of an arrest warrant against former First undersecretary of Mahra governor Ali Salem al-Harizi," he said.

Maliki did not rule out that al-Harizi actions in this regard is aiming for social and political gain.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the coalition front man stressed that the coalition did not give orders or instructed anyone, and that such matters are the responsibility of the official authorities in the Republic of Yemen

represented by the local authority and the security services.

Colonel al-Maliki stressed that the coalition has goals for which the operations "Firmness Storm" and "Restoring Hope" were launched and for the coalition it is the priority in order to liberate the Yemeni lands, the restoration of legitimacy of the government, the restoration of security and stability of the liberated areas, and contribute to development projects in all governorates of Yemen.

Hundreds protest at UK court for far-right activist Tommy Robinson
[IsraelTimes] Judge adjourns contempt case of anti-migrant leader who filmed inside courtroom in gang rape trial and who has alleged political persecution

Hundreds of supporters of British far-right figurehead Tommy Robinson brought a London street to a close on Thursday protesting his contempt of court case, which was later adjourned.

Around 50 counter-demonstrators chanted "Nazi scum, off out streets," as Robinson, who founded and later left the anti-Islam English Defence League (EDL), arrived at court for a hearing.

He is facing a retrial after an appeals judge last month quashed a contempt of court conviction ‐ for a breach of reporting restrictions around a trial ‐ and ordered his release from prison.

Nicholas Hilliard, the judge now assigned the case, on Thursday asked Robinson’s legal team to send more detailed arguments before deciding if, and when, to hold another hearing.

Robinson, who counts former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon as a supporter, won the challenge in August against an initial 13-month prison sentence.

He had been tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
for contempt of court and breaching a previous suspended sentence, having used social media to live-stream events outside a court in Leeds, northern England.

He told news hounds on Thursday that he believed the latest delay was on purpose "to not give me closure."

"It’s political persecution," he added.

The former soccer hooligan, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, set up the EDL to protest against Islamic demonstrations in his home town of Luton, but it soon attracted a far-right crowd as it became a nationwide movement. He has long campaigned against what he says is crimes committed by Moslem migrants colonists.

His recent legal woes began after he was first convicted of filming inside a court building ‐ an offense ‐ during a gang rape trial in Canterbury, southeast England, in May 2017, a year before the incident in Leeds.

His supporters, many carrying flags and placards reading "Free Tommy," chanted his name and mobbed him as he left court on Thursday, promising to return for his next court date.

"Tommy represents, symbolically, an attack on the fundamental fabric of our society and culture, and our entire system has hidden the mass rapes of girls ‐ he symbolized that unheard voice," said Ralph Masilamani, 51.

Anti-racism protester Weylan Deaett accused Robinson of "trying to whip up division," adding it was "important that good people stand together so we don’t have the tragedy that beset Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
before."

French imam investigated for incitement over anti-Semitic sermon
[IsraelTimes] Mohammed Tatai cited Islamic text which says that on Judgement Day the Moslems will kill the Jews, predicted demise of Israel
It might also prove interesting to examine the good imam’s connections to see if any have been engaged in more active behaviors...
Prosecutors in La Belle France have launched an investigation for incitement against a senior Moslem holy man from Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
who recited anti-Semitic religious passages and predicted Israel’s destruction.

On Tuesday, the Toulouse Prosecutor’s Office opened the probe against Mohammed Tatai, the imam of the newly inaugurated Grand Mosque of Toulouse and the leader of an interfaith dialogue group, the Sud Ouest daily reported.

In a sermon delivered on December 15, 2017, Tatai recited a Moslem text, called a Hadith, stating that on Judgment Day, the Moslems will kill the Jews.

In June, the La Belle France chapter of the B’nai B’rith group condemned on Twitter the statements by Tatai, who told listeners that the Prophet Muhammad "told us about the final and decisive battle: ’Judgement Day will not come until the Moslems fight the Jews. The Jews will hide behind the stones and the trees, and the stones and the trees will say: Oh Moslem, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him ‐ except for the Gharqad tree, which is one of the trees of the Jews.’"

He also said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was "afraid that Israel would not live longer than 76 years ‐ as is written in the prophecies." Tatai then said that an Israeli journalist, whom he did not name, said the 2016 funeral of Israeli President Shimon Peres was "the funeral of Israel.’"

JTA was not able to verify or locate either of the quotes referenced by Tatai.

Toulouse Prosecutor Dominique Alzeari wrote in a document connected to the investigation that "after verifying the facts connected to the dissemination of the sermon," including with a certified translation of it from Arabic, his office opened an investigation for alleged "public verbal provocation to hatred or violence because of [the victim’s] origins, ethnicity, nationality, race or religion."

The video of the Arabic-language sermon was posted in December on the YouTube channel of the Grand Mosque of Toulouse. The Middle East Media Research Institute translated the video and posted it on its website.

Tatai is the president of the Circle for Civil Dialogue, a nonprofit whose mission is to "facilitate dialogue between citizens on a social-cultural level, educationally and through sports."

On Saturday he led the inauguration ceremony of the city’s new and largest mosque, a $7.5 million building, where he serves as the most prominent imam.

During the inauguration ceremony, which included the release of white doves, Tatai said the mosque will serve "to instill the values of peace" and as a "bulwark against extremism."

In a July interview for the La Dépêche du Midi daily, Tatai said the video "takes what I said out of context." He told the daily that during the sermon, he also said that "we must do everything not to arrive" at a Moslem-Jewish war, but the assertion was not recorded in the video.

“Palestine” confirmed to head massive bloc of developing countries at UN
[IsraelTimes] Egypt’s Sissi hands over to Abbas the presidency of G77, a group of 134 nations comprising some 80 percent of the world’s population

The State of Paleostine was formally handed on Thursday the presidency of the Group of 77, the largest bloc of developing nations at the UN.

The event took place minutes before Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
was to take the podium at the UN General Assembly, for a speech in which he was expected to harshly attack Israel.

Paleostine ‐ which is not a member state of the UN but has observer state status ‐ was chosen in July to head the so-called G77 plus China, a consortium now consisting of 134 nations that often speaks in one voice at the UN General Assembly, starting January 1, 2019. On Thursday, that decision was confirmed.

Abbas, speaking from his seat in the back of the room, promised that his government "will bear its responsibility and perform its duties in all honesty and integrity and in a manner that deserves the trust of the members of G77."

He said Paleostine was committed to work with all members and secretariat of the group. He did not mention Israel or other regional issues in his brief remarks.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who as outgoing president presided over the Thursday’s ministerial meeting, congratulated "my brother" Abbas on the confirmation.

In lieu of a formal vote, which will be held later, Sissi asked the forum if it supported handing the gavel to Abbas, a query which was met by a loud round of confirmative applause from delegates.

"I assure you that Egypt, along with all members of the group, will fully support the chairmanship of Paleostine, We’re convinced that Paleostine will advance the interests of all member states," he said at the meeting, held at the conference hall of the UN Economic and Social Council.

Ecuador’s Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, who presides over the current session of the General Assembly, noted that the Group of 77 comprises nearly three-quarters of UN members states, and about 80 percent of the world’s population.

The bloc has an "extremely important role of maintaining multilateralism, which never before since its establishment has it faced such challenges, such threats."

UN Secretary-General António Guterres hailed the G77 as a "champion of multilateralism" and addressed at some length the challenges of the developing world, but did not mention Paleostine’s election to the bloc’s presidency.

The G77 was originally founded in 1964 with 77 countries, including Egypt, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Brazil, Thailand, and India. Over the years it has grown to include countries such as South Africa, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, Cuba, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Singapore, and Angola.

In July, when Paleostine’s possible election was first reported, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon expressed misgivings about the move.

"The goal of the Group of 77 originally was to facilitate the economic advancement of underdeveloped nations," he told The Times of Israel. "It is unfortunate that it will now become a platform for spreading lies and incitement. This will not promote the G77’s goals, and encourages the Paleostinians to not engage in negotiations for peace."

HRW: Iraqis forcibly disappeared 'by security forces'
[Al Jazeera] Dozens of Iraqi men and boys have been forcibly disappeared by Iraqi security forces since 2014, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

In a report published on Thursday, the rights group said 74 mostly Sunni Arab men and four boys had been disappeared between April 2014 and October 2017, often in the context of counterterrorism operations.

Since 2014, pro-government forces have carried out operations to find fighters and supporters of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant group (ISIS, also known as ISIS).

The cases are part of a wider continuing trend according to HRW, which says it continues to receive reports of disappearances across Iraq.

"Families across Iraq whose fathers, husbands, and sons disappeared after Iraqi forces detained them are desperate to find their loved ones," said Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at HRW.

"Despite years of searching, and requests to Iraqi authorities, the government has provided no answers about where they are or if they are even still alive."

Iraqi officials did not respond to inquiries from families and HRW about the disappeared.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad chooses new leader, remains close to Iran
[IsraelTimes] Syria-based Ziad al-Nakhala will take over as terror group’s secretary general from Ramadan Shalah, who is believed to be in a coma after an unknown illness.

Paleostinian terror group Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
selected a new leader for the first time in more than 20 years Thursday, a bigwig said, but is likely to remain close to Iran.

Syria-based Ziad al-Nakhala will take over as the movement’s secretary general from Ramadan Shalah, who has been suffering from serious health issues for months, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Shalah, who has led PIJ since 1995, is believed to be in a coma after an unknown illness, though the group has not publicly confirmed this.

The official said Nakhala was selected without a challenger, with a second source in the party confirming the announcement.

Nakhala, who was born in Gazoo in 1953, is close to both Iran and Lebanese terror group Hezbollah. He had been the deputy leader to Shalah since the 1990s.

Islamic Jihad is heavily backed by Iran. Alongside its Gazoo allies Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede,, PIJ has fought three wars with Israel since 2008.

It is considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, and the US labelled Nakhala himself a "global terrorist" in 2014.

It opposes the peace agreements signed between Israel and the internationally recognized Paleostinian leadership.

IDF releases photos of alleged Hezbollah missile sites near Beirut airport
[IsraelTimes] After Netanyahu’s revelations at UN, army says the Iran-supported facilities are being used to convert regular missiles into precision-guided ones

The Israeli military on Thursday released satellite images of three sites in Beirut that it says are being used by the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group to hide underground precision missile production facilities.

The sites, located within close proximity of Beirut’s international airport, were first revealed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday night, during his speech at the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
General Assembly.

The factories, which are meant to convert regular missiles into more accurate precision ones, are not believed to be up and running. The Israel Defense Forces said they are currently being constructed with Iranian assistance.

The target of the Israeli Arclight airstrike last week, in which a Russian spy plane was inadvertently shot down by Syrian air defenses, was machinery used in the production of precision missiles, which was en route to Hezbollah, The Times of Israel has learned.

According to Netanyahu, these precision missiles are capable of striking with 10 meters (32 feet) of their given target. Hezbollah is believed to have an arsenal of between 100,000 and 150,000 rockets and missiles, though the vast majority are thought to lack precision technology.

They army said the facilities are "another example of Iranian entrenchment in the region and the negative influence of Iran."

Holding up aerial photos of the alleged Hezbollah facilities, Netanyahu warned: "Israel knows what you are doing, Israel knows where you are doing it, and Israel will not let you get away with it."

Netanyahu accused the Lebanese terror group of "deliberately using the innocent people of Beirut as human shields."

According to the Israel Defense Forces, Hezbollah began working on these surface-to-surface missile facilities last year.

Reports that Iran was constructing underground missile conversion factories in Leb first emerged in March 2017.

Since then, Israeli officials have repeatedly said that Israel would not abide such facilities.

In January, Netanyahu said Leb "is becoming a factory for precision-guided missiles that threaten Israel. These missiles pose a grave threat to Israel, and we will cannot accept this threat."

One of the alleged sites is located under a soccer field used by a Hezbollah-sponsored team; another is just north of the Rafik Hariri International Airport; and the third is underneath the Beirut port and less than 500 meters from the airport’s tarmac.

These three are not the only facilities that the IDF believes are being used by Hezbollah for the manufacturing and storage of precision missiles.

"Israel is monitoring these sites with a variety of capabilities and tools, has significant knowledge of the precision project and is working to fight it with a variety of operational responses, techniques and tools," the army said.

In May, Netanyahu said Israel was "operating against the transfer of deadly weapons from Syria to Leb or their manufacture in Leb."

In recent years, Israel has acknowledged conducting hundreds of airstrikes in Syria, which it says were aimed at both preventing Iran from establishing a permanent military presence in Syria and blocking the transfer of advanced munitions to Hezbollah in Leb.

The Israeli Air Force has largely abstained from conducting raids inside Leb itself, though it has indicated that it was prepared to do so.

Earlier this year, IAF chief Amiram Norkin showed visiting generals a picture of an Israeli F-35 stealth fighter flying next to Beirut’s airport, in what was seen as a direct message to Hezbollah.

Israel fought a punishing war with Hezbollah in 2006. Jerusalem believes the group has since re-armed with tens of thousands of missiles that can threaten all of Israel.

Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA gets $118 mln in new funding
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Paleostinian refugee agency UNRWA on Thursday received pledges of $118 million from donor countries to help it overcome a crisis triggered by US funding cuts, Jordan’s foreign minister said.

Germany, Sweden, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
and Japan were among the countries that came forward with extra funds for UNRWA during a meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Ayman Safadi, who co-hosted the meeting on UNRWA’s funding crisis, told a news conference.

Kuwait and the European Union were among the biggest contributors along with Germany, Ireland and Norway, UNRWA chief Pierre Kraehenbuehl told a news conference. La Belle France said it would contribute next year.

The United States, which was by far the biggest contributor to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), announced in August that it would no longer fund the agency.

Kraehenbuehl said the new funds were "a significant step in the direction of overcoming UNRWA’s greatest and gravest financial crisis ever", adding that the shortfall in the annual budget now stood at $68 million.

has backed Israel in accusing UNRWA of perpetuating the Middle East conflict by maintaining the idea that millions of Paleostinians are refugees with a right to return to homes in what is now Israel.

Created in 1949, the agency supplies aid to more than three million of the five million registered Paleostinian refugees in Jordan, Leb, Syria and the Paleostinian territories.

Palestinian president Abbas accuses US of undermining two-state solution
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Paleostinian leader the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

on Thursday accused Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s administration of undermining efforts towards a two-state solution, a day after the US president said he would unveil a new Middle East peace plan.

Abbas called on US President Donald Trump to rescind his decisions recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and cutting aid to the Paleostinians, which he said had undermined the two-state solution to the Middle East conflict.

"This administration has reneged on all previous US commitments, and has undermined the two-state solution, and has revealed its false claims of concern about the humanitarian conditions of the Paleostinian people," the Paleostinian Authority president told the UN General Assembly.

The Paleostinian president said: "I renew my call to President Trump to rescind his decisions and decrees regarding Jerusalem, refugees and settlements."

He stressed that ’biased’ US cannot be the sole Mideast mediator.

Abbas further said that East Jerusalem will always be the capital of the Paleostinian people, calling for the protection of the Paleostinian civilian population.

As Syrian troops return to Golan, Israel ready to reopen crossing to UN staff
[IsraelTimes] Touring northern front, defense minister brushes off Trump’s comments on Paleostinian state, says he only cares about a Jewish state.

QUNEITRA CROSSING ‐ Israel completed the necessary preparations to reopen its main crossing with Syria to UN troops after a four-year closure, leaving the checkpoint’s fate in the hands of Syrian dictator Bashir al-Assad, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced Thursday.

"Everything is ready and set," Liberman said at a presser at the site. "It’s all on the other side [to decide] now."

This Israeli offer to reopen the Quneitra Crossing would restore the situation along the border between the two countries to what it was prior to the Syrian civil war, which began in 2011.

Through the metal gate separating the two sides, Syrian crews could also be seen working. Israeli officials speculated that the crossing could reopen in the coming weeks.

Liberman stressed that Israel was demanding that Syria abide by "every single section" of the 1974 ceasefire agreement between the two countries, which ended the 1973 Yom Kippur War and created a demilitarized zone along the border.

During the presser, the defense minister also briefly discussed comments made by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
about his apparent support for the creation of a Paleostinian state as a solution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict. Trump appeared to backtrack hours later during a frenzied news conference on the sidelines of UN General Assembly, saying that the actual solution was less important to him, so long as there was a peace deal in the end.

"A Paleostinian state doesn’t interest me. What interests me is the Jewish state," Liberman said.

The defense minister reiterated his calls for Arab citizens of Israel to become part of a future Paleostinian state, saying they were the "main issue."

Liberman refused to comment on any developments in Israel’s ongoing crisis with Russia over the downing of a Russian spy plane by Syria during an Israeli air raid last Monday.

"We have no interest in having a conversation with Russia through the media," he said.

Liberman said he would only reiterate the importance of Israel’s continued coordination efforts with Russia and sent condolences to the families of the 15 soldiers killed in the friendly-fire incident, which Moscow has blamed fully on Israel.

In recent months, Assad’s military ‐ aided by Russia ‐ wrested back control of southwest Syria from local rebel groups.

The Quneitra Crossing was shuttered in August 2014 following a number of attacks by Syrian rebels, which drove out the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
peacekeeping force that controlled the crossing.

The UN Disengagement Observer Force, known by its acronym UNDOF, has slowly returned to the border between Israel and Syria ‐ a move that was welcomed by Jerusalem.

"UNDOF troops have started working and patrolling, with IDF assistance. This shows that we are ready to open the crossing as it was before. The ball is now in Syria’s court," Liberman said.

The peacekeeping troops could be seen monitoring the border crossing from an adjacent metal guard tower.

Liberman said the decision to reopen the crossing does not change Israel’s relationship with the Syrian regime or with Assad, whom the defense minister called a "war criminal."

The crossing has in the past primarily been used by the Druze population in both countries, but if it reopens, it will mostly serve the UNDOF soldiers, allowing them to pass through it for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening.

In addition to serving as a pedestrian crossing for the Druze living in Syria and the Israeli Golan Heights, the crossing has also been used to transport apples from Israel to Syria, which Liberman said could happen again.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Error depicting Israeli soldiers on Iran billboard causes outrage
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] On the occasion marking the 30th anniversary of the end of the war with Iraq that started in September 1980 and ended in August 1988, the Iranian Shiraz city in south of the country, put up a huge billboard of three soldiers glorifying them for fighting during the eight-year war.

But the story does not end here as this picture drew ridicule from people inside and outside Iran, as the photo was of Israeli soldiers and not Iranian soldiers.

Iranian media circulated widely the picture which sparked a wave of protest against the scandal in one of Iran’s largest cities and in a country that has been emboldened by threats against Israel for four decades, though none of them have been implemented.

The billboard which was erected in Namazi Square in Shiraz. shows three soldiers from the rear standing on a hill and looking ahead, with Persian verses alongside which said: "The wise men went and we still see their greatness ... and we see on the mountain their dark shadows" referring to Iranian soldiers who died in the war with Iraq.

But later on, it turned out that the picture was of Israeli soldiers and was photoshopped, as the original picture wass of four soldiers including a female soldier with her hair exposed.

The image was cropped to remove the female IDF soldier. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the person who made the poster neglected to notice that the soldiers carried M-16s rifles which the Iranian army is not equipped with.
The Daily Mail has a picture of the thing here.
After a wave of criticism, the municipality of Shiraz was forced to remove the billboards from the streets of the city and issued an apology , saying it will punish those who published the advertisement.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
despite this apology, both the pro-regime and opposition media widely published the advertised picture, which provoked a mixture of sarcasm, criticism and astonishment.

Iranian rial hits record low of 170,000 against dollar
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Iranian rial hit a record low against the U.S. dollar on the unofficial market on Wednesday, the Tasnim news agency reported, amid a deterioration in the economic situation in Iran and the re-imposition of sanctions by the United States.

The dollar was being offered for as much as 170,000 rials, according to Tasnim. The rial has lost approximately 75 percent of its value since the beginning of 2018.

The currency has been volatile for months because of a weak economy, financial difficulties at local banks and heavy demand for dollars among Iranians who fear the pullout of Washington from a landmark 2015 nuclear deal and renewed US sanctions could shrink Iran’s exports of oil and other goods.

A set of US sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry is due to take effect in November. Rouhani, in a speech to the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
General Assembly on Tuesday, said the United States had waged "economic war" against Iran by re-imposing unilateral sanctions.

Iran’s parliament sacked the minister of economic affairs and finance and the minister of labor in August, the latest in a continuing shake-up of top economic personnel. In July President Hassan Rouhani replaced the head of the central bank.

Protests linked to the tough economic situation in Iran erupted last December, spreading to more than 80 cities and towns and resulting in 25 deaths.

Iran removes missile strike video threatening UAE, Saudi Arabia before UN speech
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Iranian media outlet close to the hardline Revolutionary Guard published a video on Tuesday threatening missile attacks on the capitals of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates.

The video, in a tweet by the semi-official Fars news agency that was later deleted, comes as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed Riyadh and Abu Dhabi for the attack in the city of Ahwaz on Saturday, which killed at least 24 people and maimed over 60.

The Fars video showed file footage of previous ballistic missiles launched by the Guard, then a graphic of a sniper rifle scope trained on Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

"The era of the hit-and-run has expired," Khamenei is heard saying in the video, a clip from an April speech by the supreme leader. "A heavy punishment is underway."

Fars did not say why it took the video down. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
it came just before President Hassan Rouhani was to address the UN General Assembly later in the day.

The Guard, a paramilitary force answerable only to Khamenei, has sole control over Iran’s ballistic missile program.

Martial propaganda films
The Fars video follows a long tradition of martial propaganda films from Tehran.

Iran released a video in 2016 showing Iranian forces triumphing over an American naval fleet after they shot down an airliner, a reference to the USS Vincennes downing an Iran Air flight in 1988, which killed all 290 people aboard.

Saturday’s attack targeted one of many parades in Iran marking the start of the country’s long 1980s war with Iraq, part of a commemoration known as "Sacred Defense Week." Militants disguised as soldiers opened fire as rows of troops marched past officials in Ahwaz.

ISIS claimed Saturday’s attack, initially offering incorrect information about it and later publishing a video of three men it identified as the attackers. The men in the video, however, did not pledge allegiance or otherwise identify themselves as ISIS followers.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry on Tuesday identified the attackers as Hassan Darvishi, Javad Sari, Ahmad Mansouri, Foad Mansouri and Ayad Mansouri. It said two of them were brothers and another was their cousin.

Darvishi and Ayad Mansouri both appeared in the ISIS video. A third man in the video resembled either Ahmad or Foad Mansouri.

State TV reported late Monday that authorities have detained 22 suspects linked to the group behind the attack and confiscated ammunition and communication equipment.

The state-run IRNA news agency meanwhile dropped the corpse count from the attack to at least 24 killed, noting the initial figure of 25 included one of the attackers. It said the assault maimed at least 68 people.
