Migrants Choke Off Mexico's Freight Service
Unexpected second order consequences are a bitch.
[Epoch Times] Mexican railroad operator Ferromex has suspended some service in the northern part of the country following the "regrettable" injuries and deaths of about a half-dozen illegal immigrants who tried to hop aboard its freight cars.
Ferromex halted 60 trains on northern routes that have the capacity to carry enough cargo to fill 1,800 tractor-trailers, the company said in a Sept. 19 statement.

The company, owned by Grupo México, stated that the number of illegal immigrants occupying its trains and rail yards had increased significantly in recent days, totaling more than 4,000 across several cities.

"Due to this, Ferromex will temporarily suspend its operations on the affected routes to protect the physical integrity of the migrants and will be monitoring whatever measures authorities implement," it stated.

Ferromex is Mexico’s largest concessionary rail operator, and the halt in services could be "very important," according to Ana Bertha Gutiérrez, international trade coordinator for the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness.

Ms. Gutiérrez stressed that the industrial states such as Nuevo León, Baja California, and Chihuahua could be particularly hard hit, given their involvement in the U.S. market.

Arabia
‘This has been Saudi Arabia’s longstanding position,’ Sullivan says of MBS nuclear pledge
Oboy — imagine the Iran-Iraq War, but with nukes.
[IsraelTimes] US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan downplays Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s declaration to Fox News this week that Saudi Arabia will have to acquire a nuclear weapon if Iran does.

Sullivan is asked during a press briefing whether the remark was an attempt to up the pressure on the US as it tries to negotiate a normalization agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia through which Riyadh is hoping to establish a civilian nuclear program.

“No, I don’t think so,” Sullivan responds. “This has been a longstanding position of Saudi Arabia.”

“Frankly, one of the major reasons that we are working overtime with partners and allies to ensure that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon, is that if they did, not only would they be a direct threat to the region and beyond, but it likely would trigger a regional arms race.”

“So, it has been core to the American principle and policy with respect to ensuring Iran does not get a nuclear weapon, this risk that potentially other countries in the region would seek nuclear weapons. That’s not something that emerged yesterday in an interview. That has been a feature of the landscape going back many years.”

“Now, from our perspective, we will do all that is necessary… to ensure that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon, so this hypothetical never comes to pass. That’s the stance that we take, and nothing about the comments made yesterday change or alter that.”

#1  ...The Saudis have had nukes for decades - who do you think paid for the Pakistani weapons? They have the bombs, all they have to do is call. They've had the missiles almost as long, officially with conventional warheads.

My take is that this is the two-minute warning - stop supporting the Iranians now. Trouble is, we're not smart enough to listen.

Caribbean-Latin America
Mexico's fifth largest employer is helping kill Americans. Some Republicans are ready to declare literal war
That kind of thing is a lot easier to start than to finish, it seems to me...
[FoxNews] Mexican cartels hire a hundreds of new recruits each week as employees die or are imprisoned: researchers.

Cartels are collectively Mexico's fifth-largest employer, according to a recent study, and some Republican presidential candidates are ready to take them out with military force.

A mathematical model of the criminal organizations' recruitments and losses revealed that Mexican cartels collectively employ some 175,000 people, according to a study published in the journal Science. The groups have been blamed for flooding fentanyl into the U.S. Over 200,000 Americans have overdosed and died from synthetic opioids like fentanyl since 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Gov. Ron DeSantis "is fully committed to sending U.S. Special Forces into Mexico to combat the drug cartels, deploying the U.S. military to stop the invasion, and authorizing deadly force against cartel drug smugglers breaking into our country," a spokesperson for the Florida Republican's presidential campaign told Fox News.

DeSantis, the only candidate who has served in the military, has also supported the use of drone strikes against the criminal groups. Other candidates, such as former President Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley have similarly said that, if they were elected to the Oval Office, they too would deploy U.S. special forces to combat the cartels.

Trump said he would "inflict maximum damage" on cartel operations, he told Fox News in June, adding that he would seek the death penalty for convicted drug dealers and human traffickers.

A spokesperson for Haley's presidential campaign provided a comment echoing the candidate's previous remarks accusing China and the cartels of working together to smuggle fentanyl into the U.S.

"Treat those cartels for the terrorists that they are," Haley said at a town hall in May. "We send in our special operation units, and we take them out just like we took out Al Qaeda and you stop all of that manufacturing that's happening there on the side of Mexico."

The two most formidable criminal organizations in Mexico, the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco Cartel have 26,000 and nearly 19,000 members, respectively, according to U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) chief Anne Milgram. Those cartels, she said, are "responsible for flooding fentanyl into our communities."

"The Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels pose the greatest criminal drug threat the United States has ever faced," the DEA administrator told the House Judiciary Committee in July. "These ruthless, violent, criminal organizations have associates, facilitators and brokers in all 50 states in the United States, as well as in more than 100 countries around the world."

The new research puts the cartel issue into perspective, Rafael Prieto-Curiel, the lead author of the study, told the Los Angeles Times. "It’s very important to understand the size of the problem," he said.

Cartels across Mexico are recruiting between 350 and 370 people a week to make up for members who die or are imprisoned, the research found.

But GOP candidates aren't alone in wanting to take military action against the cartels.

About half of Americans support sending military forces into Mexico to fight drug cartels, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. Another 26% opposed the idea and the remainder were unsure.

Ovidio Guzman Lopez, a high-ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel and son of imprisoned kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, was arraigned on Monday in Chicago on federal drug charges. He was charged with conspiring to distribute in the U.S. cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana from Mexico and elsewhere.

The Trump campaign did not return a request for comment.

#3  Over 200,000 Americans have overdosed and died from synthetic opioids like fentanyl since 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Extreme problems require extreme solutions. Two hundred thousand Americans sounds pretty extreme to me. IIRC, that's almost four times the number of Americans killed during the entire course of the Vietnam War. When you have that many people dying it is no longer a law enforcement problem, it's war and we need our military to be involved.

That's not even considering the illegal alien problem which is also extreme.

What good is our government if it won't protect us from this kind of an attack? If our president was not a crook, most likely on the take from the cartels, he would ask Congress for a formal declaration of war.

We don't have to invade Mexico and take its territory. We do need to seal the border and interdict sea borne attempts to smuggle their poison into our country. We could also blockade their sea ports and if the Chicoms don't like it they can suck on it. Air strikes on cartel facilities would also be appropriate.

Russia is not our enemy and Ukraine is none of our business. Two hundred thousand Americans in their graves is our business and any country that inflicts that kind of damage on our country, whether it's the official policy of their government or not, is most certainly our enemy.

#7  Remove all drug barriers.

Fentanyl has for all intents and purposes been legalized in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The result is predictable. Junkies, unable and/or unwilling to hold a job, crash on the sidewalks until they need another fix. Then they commit various acts of thievery to get money for their next fix. Retail stores are leaving those cities because they lose money trying to operate in that environment. Our cities across the country are dying in large part because the government has done pretty much what you suggest. A responsible government would stop it.

To be fair, it’s a terrible policy, along with all the other Biden administration policies.
"Sen. Cruz has been clear that it was becoming impossible to advance the Biden administration’s Middle East nominees because they kept lying about their policies to Congress and the American people," Cruz’s spokesperson says in a statement to Jewish Insider.

Cruz accuses the Biden administration of reaching a "sealed secret nuclear deal with Iran," without providing proof and of taking "steps to rescind United States recognition of Israel’s illusory sovereignty over the Golan Heights" — a reference to a United Nations

The administration says it opposed this language, and that the Trump decision to recognize the Golan Heights as sovereign Israeli territory remains in place.

The Cruz spokesperson nonetheless says the senator "has imposed holds on Biden administration nominees who are linked to these decisions until they clarify their roles and policies."

The statement doesn’t specify which nominees would be impacted, but Cruz has previously indicated that he will place a hold on Biden’s nominee to be the next ambassador to Israel, Jack Lew, once his confirmation process advances.

9/11 detainee ruled mentally unfit for trial after torture at Guantanamo
[IsraelTimes] Military judge says Ramzi bin al-Shibh, diagnosed with mental illnesses, is unable to defend himself; trial of alleged criminal mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, three others to go ahead
Nothing a good trepanning with a cordless drill wouldn't help
A judge at the US military tribunal in Guantanamo Bay on Thursday ruled that a Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
i detainee who was tortured by the CIA is unfit to stand trial in a death penalty
case, US media reported.

Ramzi bin al-Shibh,
...also Ramzi Binalshibh, the unhandsome Yemeni fixer accused of finding flight schools for the hijackers, helping them enter the United States, and assisting with financing the operation. He allegedly was selected to be a hijacker and made a "martyr video" in preparation for the operation, but was unable to get a U.S. visa. He also is believed to be a lead operative for a foiled plot to crash aircraft into London's Heathrow Airport...
51, had been scheduled to be one of five defendants in a trial related to the September 11, 2001, attacks on US cities by Al Qaeda that left almost 3,000 people dead.

But Colonel Matthew McCall, a military judge, said the prisoner was too psychologically damaged to help defend himself, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported.

Doctors at the US base on the eastern tip of Cuba diagnosed Bin al-Shibh with post-traumatic stress disorder and secondary psychotic features, as well as a delusional disorder.

The military psychiatrists said his condition left him "unable to understand the nature of the proceedings against him or cooperate intelligently" with his legal defense team, the Times reported.

Bin al-Shibh has for years complained of being "tormented by invisible forces that caused his bed and cell to vibrate and that stung his genitals, depriving him of sleep," the paper added.
Quit putting quarters into the vibrator bed, idiot
Bin al-Shibh’s defense lawyer has claimed that his client was tortured by the CIA and went insane as a result of what the agency called enhanced interrogation techniques, which included sleep deprivation, waterboarding, and beatings.

He had been due to face pretrial proceedings on Friday with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, believed to be the criminal mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, and three other defendants. Their hearing will proceed as scheduled, the paper said.

Bin al-Shibh was accused of helping organize the Al Qaeda cell in Hamburg, Germany, that hijacked one of two passenger jets that crashed into the World Trade Center in New York.

Another suicide airliner attack targeted the Pentagon in Washington, and a fourth plane crashed in rural Pennsylvania when passengers overpowered the hijackers.

India-Pakistan
J&K: Released From House Arrest After 4 Years, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Breaks Down At Friday Sermon
“He used to be powerful and scary, but now he’s mostly harmless.”
[OneIndia] Hurriyat Conference
...an alliance of 26 political, social, and religious Moslem organizations formed in 1993 as a united political front to raise the cause of Kashmiri separatism. In other words, a willing tool of Pakistan, but after the last few years it’s become a broken reed instead of a cudgel...
chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq turned emotional after being released from house arrest after four years, earlier on 22nd September. He broke into tears while delivering the Friday sermon at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
as reported by PTI.

As per officials, Farooq was detained after the GOI went ahead and abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution of India in August 2019 and it has now been after four years that he has finally been released.

As per PTI, the Mirwaiz will be allowed to take part in the Friday congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in the Nowhatta area here, the officials from the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, the management committee of the mosque said.

"Senior police officials visited the residence of the Mirwaiz on Thursday to inform him that the authorities have decided to release him from house detention and allow him to go to Jamia Masjid for Friday prayers," the Auqaf said in a statement.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah welcoming the decision said, "We welcome this step by the government. He should not have been held under house arrest for so long. Now that he has been released it means that the situation here is not so bad and elections can be conducted. We hope he will fulfill his socio-religious role now." as reported by ANI.

Reportedly, Mirwaiz was released shortly after he filed a petition with the J&K High Court. On 15th September, the court asked the J&K administration for a response and gave them a four-week period to do so. Before this, Mirwaiz had also sent a legal notice to the J&K administration over his "house detention" on 18th August.

The notice mentions that the Jammu and Kashmir administration denied Mirwaiz's detention and said that he was free to relocate to any location. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
"on the other hand, the deployment of a large contingent of security forces outside the Nigeen residence of my client nullifies the aforesaid stand of lieutenant governor...," as per the notice by Mirwaiz's lawyer as quoted in Media reports.

Hurriyat Conference leader was put on house arrest along with several other politicians of Jammu and Kashmir on 5th August 2019, the same day when the BJP-led government of India revoked several provisions of Article 370 and split the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union territories.
The Indian government freed Kashmiri chief holy man and Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday after more than four years of house arrest.

The 50-year-old was detained along with other politicians and thousands of residents when the government cancelled held Kashmir

’s constitutional semi-autonomy and imposed federal rule in 2019.

A months-long internet shutdown followed as India bolstered its armed forces in the region to contain protests.

Most detainees were subsequently released, but Mirwaiz remained unable to leave his residence, down the street from his Jamia Masjid mosque in Srinagar.

Thousands of worshippers gathered to see him lead Friday prayers for the first time in 218 weeks, with women showering him with sweets and religious slogans resounding around the 14th-century building.

Heavy security, including counter-insurgency police and commandos, were deployed around the mosque on Friday.

Armed festivities between Indian soldiers and freedom fighters demanding independence for the disputed region or its merger with Pakistain have significantly reduced.

But this month saw an uptick in violence leaving at least 14 dead, including eight security personnel.

CTD official links recent spate of targeted killings in Karachi to ‘enemy country’
[Dawn] A Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official claimed on Friday that a series of murders carried out in Bloody Karachi

in the past few months were linked to an "enemy country" and the police are closely examining the matter.

"This is assassination under a planned conspiracy," Raja Umar Khattab, a senior officer in the CTD, said in a statement.

While the official did not refer to specific murders or name a country in his statement, the remarks come weeks after the murders of two holy mans in separate attacks.

Ziaur Rehman, the administrator of the Jamia Abi Bakar madrassah in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, was murdered on September 12 and on September 6, Qari Khurram Shahzad, a seminary teacher was fatally shot in North Nazimabad.

The police had said then that they suspected the involvement of the Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW
... India's Research and Analysis Wing, Pakistain's equivalent of the Boogie Man...
). They had said that the murders were ostensibly aimed to incite violence as they coincided with the arrival of the holy month of Rabiul Awwal.
The third month of the Moslem calender, when the faithful celebrate Mawlid, the birthday of the Prophet Moammed.
According to Khattab, the police were carrying closely examining the evidence, and soon the culprits and their accomplices would be tracked down.

The Karachi police had last week said: "CTD has collected evidence of the incident, while during the preliminary investigation, evidence of the involvement of the intelligence agency of our neighbouring country, RAW, has been found in the incident," it said, without elaborating further.

Inspector General (IG) Dr Usman Anwar said that the police had unearthed a "network of hostile intelligence agencies" that were allegedly involved in the recent incidents of blasphemy

On August 16, a violent mostly peaceful mob of hundreds ransacked and torched nearly two dozen churches and attacked the residences of members of the Christian community and the office of the local assistant commissioner in Jaranwala.

He said the aforementioned events were a "conspiracy" to "divert attention" from the communal festivities in India’s Manipur state.

But unlike the Indian state’s response, Anwar continued, Pak officials, civil society and scholars helped and supported Christian victims and spoke up against the injustice.
Riiiiight. A bit of protesting too much there, buddy.

Pakistan Demands Global ‘Accountability Process to Punish Islamophobic Crimes' at U.N.
[Breitbart] Khan, a radical Islamist with fervent support among Pakistani fundamentalists, launched a campaign in 2018 to pressure other countries to adopt similar speech codes as part of a war against alleged "Islamophobia" — intended, in his own words, to "prevent people [from] using freedom of speech as a cover for hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims around the world," he added, according to Hamari Web News.

Armenia decries Azerbaijan 'ethnic cleansing' in Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian ambassador
[AlAhram] Armenia warned the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Thursday that Azerbaijan was carrying out "ethnic cleansing" and committing a "crime against humanity" as it regained control of the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Speaking before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Armenian ambassador Andranik Hovhannisyan recalled that his country had previously warned of "looming ethnic cleansing" in Nagorno-Karabakh, stressing "now it is in progress".

"Civilians in Nagorno-Karabakh are trapped and they do not have a way to evacuate since Azerbaijan continues to block the only lifeline connecting with Armenia," he said.

"This is not a mere conflict situation, this is a crime against humanity and should be treated as such."

His comments came as Armenian separatists from the disputed territory joined peace talks with Azerbaijan on Thursday, after agreeing to lay down their arms following a lightning Azerbaijani military operation.

Baku says it has regained control over the territory for the first time in decades, with separatists agreeing to disarm in the face of festivities that they said killed 200 people.

Also addressing the Human Rights Council, Azerbaijan representative Dilara Abdullayeva stressed that her country had been "forced to take the local counterterrorism measures," insisting that it had "targeted exclusively illegal military formations and fortifications".

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought two wars over the region.

The years of conflict have been marked by abuses on both sides, and there are concerns of a fresh refugee crisis as Karabakh's Armenian population fears being forced out.
