Crime: Jacoby Smith beat up quadruple amputee girlfriend in self-defense
Jacoby Laquan Smith says he will turn himself in to St. Paul police this week for what must be the most unmanly crime on record: domestically abusing his armless, legless girlfriend.

Smith allegedly punched Tiesha Bell in the face 10 times during the March 22 incident and faces a misdemeanor fifth degree assault charge and a gross misdemeanor for interfering with a 911 call.

Bell was in no position to defend herself, being that both hands and both legs were amputated due to a childhood illness. But Smith says don't let that fool you--Bell is like a handless, legless Ultimate Fighter.

"She'll swing, push me down and choke me with her nubs," Smith told the Pioneer Press.

Smith said that prior to the domestic dispute, Bell was cheating on him.

That's right, Smith was being cuckolded by a quadruple amputee. That can't be good for the self-esteem.
Nub fetishists must be some kind of S&M subculture.
He turned on the TV and Bell got mad, he says. She punched him in the groin with her deadly nub and then proceeded to dowse him in urine from a bed pan.
That sentence has probably never before been uttered in the entire history of the world.
Yes, after being cuckolded by the quadruple amputee, she gave him a golden shower. So you see, your honor, Smith punched the quadruple amputee in self-defense. He rests his case.

(By the way, Bell still plans to marry him. "We both need anger management," she said.)
I think they both need more than that, starting with jail time for Jacoby.

China executes man who attacked 29 children
[Dawn] A state news agency says China has executed a man who attacked a kindergarten in eastern China last month, wounding 29 children and three teachers.

The official Xinhua News Agency says Xu Yuyuan was executed Sunday after being convicted of attempted murder by the Taizhou Intermediate Court in the eastern province of Jiangsu.

The April 29 attack was one of five major assaults against schoolchildren in the last two months that left 17 dead and more than 50 hurt.

The 47-year-old Xu, who was unemployed, told the court during his trial in mid-May that he was venting his anger against society in the attack.

Telephones at the court rang unanswered Sunday.

#2  he was venting his anger against society in the attack.

Go ahead and vent, they'll just get more security instead of addressing the corrupt officials and real estate barons. Search online, you won't find any information about what Xu was angry about...because that might provide some justification for his actions.

Anyone who gets angry at the idea of "justification" remember that Chinese are a collective not individuals.

Mexican-American War Soldiers Reburied
Four unknown Mexican-American War soldiers, whose coffins were recently discovered in Jackson County, will be given a full military burial complete with horse-drawn caissons on Memorial Day at Biloxi National Cemetery.

The remains were found beginning in April 2008 on Greenwood Island, which is near Bayou Cassotte in East Pascagoula, when the sand bank had finally worn down enough for coffins to be exposed. The island, which is more accurately described as a peninsula, was set up as a temporary outpost to receive returning soldiers after New Orleans became inundated with them at the end of the war. The new outpost was called Camp Jefferson Davis; it was occupied from June 1848, when there were 1,800 troops there, until November 1849.

The four soldiers will be reburied Monday at Biloxi National, where two other unknowns discovered in 1979 at the Camp Jefferson Davis site were reburied. For the service, the Ocean Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter built four replica coffins to replace the originals, which had been heavily weathered. Horse-drawn caissons, something rarely seen in modern times, will escort the four flag-draped caskets. The flags will contain 29 stars, just as they would have in 1848.

The soldiers' burial at 9:30 a.m. is expected to draw a larger-than-normal crowd at the cemetery's annual Memorial Day remembrance, Biloxi National Cemetery director Gregory Lee said.

The efforts of the unknowns, as well as of all U.S. troops, deserve to be honored, Lee said.

“No matter when they served and where, they are not forgotten,' he said.

War on Mexico was declared in May 1846. By its end, 13,000 U.S. troops and 25,000 Mexican troops had died, most from diseases rather than combat wounds.

#1  ...Many, many thanks to the good people of Mississippi who took the time to remember four good men who didn't make it home 170 years ago.

Pity President Obama is apparently too busy today to remember those who passed after and are still making the last sacrifice - he sent Biden to speak at Arlington.

Until this morning, I had nothing personal against the man. Now, it's personal.

Moroccan workers die during Essaouira minaret restoration
[Maghrebia] Two Moroccan workers were killed on Friday (May 28th) after falling from the roof of the Ben Youssef mosque as it was undergoing restoration in Essaouira, MAP reported. Five newsreaders quit Al Jazeera after Muslim boss tells them what to wear
Note how Australian media tries to hide the fact that Muslim Men are dictating to women what to wear. Tries to trivialise what is actually women's rights into 'fashion'
Five female Al Jazeera news presenters have quit after management claimed they weren't dressed appropriately enough on-air. The women filed a complaint in January over offensive remarks made by deputy editor-in-chief Ayman Jaballah about "clothes and decency", the Al-Hayat News reports.

When an Al Jazeera committee found Mr Jaballah's remarks were purely professional, the women quit.

A journalist who did not want to be named said the resignation was not just motivated by the growing pressure on presenters concerning their dress code.

"The conflicts run much deeper," the journalist told AFP.

Three other female presenters have also filed complaints about Mr Jaballah's remarks but have not resigned.

"It is the network's prerogative to oversee the general appearance of the anchors on screen," the investigating committee told Al-Hayat. "It is its prerogative to place conditions and restrictions that support the spirit of the channel and its principles."

The five anchors who reportedly resigned are Jumana Taymoor, Lina Zahr al-Din and Julnar Musa of Lebanon, Luna al-Shibl of Syria and Nofar Afali of Tunisia.

Al Jazeera was established in 1996 as a news channel providing wide media coverage across the Arab world.

Bangladesh
Mugger killed, SI hurt in gunfight
[Bangla Daily Star] A mugger was killed and a police officer injured when police opened fire on a gang of fleeing muggers near Mirpur Bangla College in the capital yesterday.

The muggers also hurled cocktails at the police to avert arrest.

Following a tip-off, a team of plain-clothes police from Mirpur Police Station challenged a gang of five muggers near an under-construction footbridge in front of the college at about 10:30am.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals hurled a cocktail on them.

As the police fired shots in the air to counter the attack, four of the criminals fled by two bikes while the rest jumped into a Mirpur-bound running pickup van.

Sub-inspector Shahinur Rahman of the police station received a splinter in his right eye.

As the fleeing muggers hurled five more cocktails from the running vehicle, police fired several shots at it causing injury to the mugger.

The injured mugger, around 27 years of age, fell down from the vehicle with a bullet in his abdomen. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

SI Shahinur told The Daily Star, they came to know that a gang of miscreants were waiting under the footbridge and planning to attack the employees of a garments factory who would cross the area after withdrawing money from a bank.

The plain-clothes policemen in a microbus went to the bridge and found that five youths in two motorcycles were waiting there.

Md Sumon, owner of a tea stall at the spot said, some youths in two motorcycles were roaming the area for about half an hour.

As the law enforcers in a microbus challenged the youths and tried to search them, they exploded a cocktail, he said.

Kazi Wajed Ali, officer-in-charge of the police station, said two policemen fired 10 rounds of bullet during the chase.

Police collected specimens of six exploded cocktails from the spot, he added.

SI Shahinur received treatment at Lions Eye Hospital, Agargaon.

Britain
BCC: UK could face another recession
[Iran Press TV Latest] The British Chambers of Commerce has warned that the crisis-hit eurozone could drag the United Kingdom into another recession.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said in its quarterly forecast on Sunday that the country's fragile economy is facing growing pressure from the crisis in the eurozone.

The BCC said in the report that unemployment will continue on its upward trend in the next 12 months. It added that the growth forecast for this year will increase from one to 1.3 percent but it has decreased its perdition for 2011 from 2.1 to 2 percent.

David Kern, the BCC's chief economist, said "markets have rallied a bit but things do not look good."

"The euro will not disintegrate next month or maybe even next year, but the long-term prospects are not good. I think there is a good chance Greece could default", he added.

The business group called on the government to devise a credible plan to cut deficit and enforce a freeze in the total public sector wage bill.

The BCC, however, warned that if the government was to further tighten the fiscal climate beyond the GBP 6 billion already announced by the Chancellor, George Osborne, it should be implemented "only when the recovery is definitely more secure."

"If they implement more than £6bn this year we risk the recession coming back," Kern said.

A guaranteed method of telling when a business is ready to implode is when insiders are getting rid of their liabilities and grabbing assets like cashed up shoppers at a knock down sale.

French banks are offloading their Greek bonds onto the ECB, whilst German banks are bound by an obligation given to finance Minster Schäuble to hold on to such papers till May 2013.

This will leave french banks sanitized and the German banks and ECB with a worthless toxic assets.
Reminds one of '71 when France nearly cleaned out Fort Know, by handing over overinflated surplus US dollars for gold, thus bringing an end to Bretton Woods.

Presidential polls open in Colombia
[Iran Press TV Latest] The Colombian presidential election has kicked off with an estimated 29 million voters casting their votes to replace President Alvaro Uribe.

The 10,271 polling stations opened at 13.00 GMT on Sunday. Nine candidates are in the running for the first round of voting, RFI reported.

Recent opinion polls have shown Social Party of National Unity's candidate, Manual Santos, and Green Party's Antanas Mockus, as favorites among the Colombians, Xinhua reported.

Opinion polls suggest an inevitable knock-out round between Santos and Mockus who each hold 35 percent of the vote. An outright victory would go to the candidate gaining 50 percent of the vote in the first round, which the polls deem unlikely.

Other candidates competing for the spot are Noemi Sanin of the Conservative Party, Pole's Gustavo Petro of the Alternative Democratic Party, German Vargas Lleras of the Radical Change and Rafael Pardo of the Liberal Party, Xinhua reported.

Economy
US Census manipulates job numbers
[Iran Press TV Latest] The US Census Bureau has been manipulating the Labor Department's job growth numbers by 'faking' the jobs it creates, a report says.

Two workers hired by Census 2010 have come out with claims that the bureau has been fudging the job growth numbers to show positive growth, The New York Post reported.

The new revelations come after a worker, out of many such workers, brought the story to light. Naomi Cohn, told the daily last week that she was hired and fired a number of times by Census.

She claimed that Census played statistical tricks in reporting the creation of a new job to the Labor Department.

"A few months ago I was trained for three days and offered five hours of work counting the homeless. Now, I am knocking (on) doors trying to find the people that have not returned their Census forms. I worked the 2000 Census. It was a far more organized venture," the daily quoted another such worker from Manhattan.

According to the report, for the past two months, the hiring by Census has made up a good portion of the new jobs.

The report also claimed the Labor Department has redefined the employment description, saying if a person is hired to work at least one hour a month, he is employed.

#1  Lies, damned lies

and statistics

it is standard in Australia in every Government department to hide and twist and lie through statistics all the time.

Or just refuse to divulge the information - like mining royalties. They won't tell us how much they get for a specific project. They sell a billion dollars of the public's uranium to a mining company and won't tell us what they paid for it.

it's the same all over the world. US is the best of a bad lot though i'd say. More freedom of speech in your country to protect whistleblowers and the freedom of the press.

#2  Are there any numbers that are not manipulated by Washington? Any numbers you can trust? Such manipulation is just propaganda aimed at the American people.

#3  While counting heads, how many are US citizens?
Considering that these numbers give more representaion to their areas, I'd like to think they are representing citizens and not illegals.

I live in the mountains, and fairly remote in many ways. This being said, I had a census bag put on my door knob twice before I had even received my letter in the mail to fill out. Hiring census workers to follow up with folks that don't turn in their census info is one thing, paying folks to wander around taking hours to be able to only visit a few homes isn't cost efficient in my view. I'd like to think they were required to have some basic skills. It makes me wonder how accurate these numbers are when such incompetent people collected this information.

Home Front: Politix
Poll: California voters favor Arizona law
The Los Angeles Times and the University of Southern California polled registered voters on Arizona's move to make illegal immigration a state crime.

From the Los Angeles Times: "50% of registered voters surveyed said they support the law, which compels police to check the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally, while 43% oppose it… Strong majorities of white voters and those over 50 support the Arizona law, while Latinos and those under 30 are heavily opposed."

The 7% gap is well outside the margin of error.

The gap also shows that every city council in the state that is boycotting Arizona is out of step with the electorate.

The actual wording of the questions in the poll. From the poll PDF:

Q. 51 This law requires police who stop a person to question that person's immigration status if there is "reasonable suspicion" that he or she is in the United States illegally and gives police the power to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. It requires people to produce documents verifying their status if asked, and allows officers to detain anyone who cannot do so. Do you favor or oppose this new law?

Strongly favor 41
Not so strongly favor 8
Not so strongly oppose 7
Strongly oppose 36

Total favor 50
Total oppose 43

Q. 52 Now let me read you some statements that supporters and opponents of the law may make.

Opponents of this law say that we need to do something to address immigration, but this law goes too far and is not consistent with our American values. This law could legitimize racial profiling and encourage some police officers to stop people they suspect of being here illegally just by looking at them — even if they have no evidence whatsoever.

Supporters of the law say that with as many as 15 million illegal immigrants in this country, we need to address immigration now. This law allows police officers to crack down on those violating the law, will reduce the number of illegal immigrants here, deter people from crossing the border illegally, reduce crime, and stop the flow of drugs into our country.

After hearing those two statements, do you favor or oppose this law?

Strongly favor 42
Not so strongly favor 8
Not so strongly oppose 8
Strongly oppose 35

Total favor 50
Total oppose 43

#2  California voters understand the problems. It is Pelosi, Boxer, and other liberal California polticians who favor such craziness as open borders and unrestricted illegal immigration. Sanctuary cities such as San Francisco make asine statements but sanctuary is always something for someone else to deal with. I remember when New York cleaned up its homeless problems. Many of NYC's homeless ended up in San Francisco--San Francisco residents were not thrilled. We need to clean house of our politicians who basically stupid and not apt to get any better.

#3  Of course we favor the Arizona law and of course our crooked politicians oppose it. All I can hope is that some of these politicians get their asses handed to them in June and November. In the governor's race Meg Whitman has Romney, Rice, Cheney and some clown from the Howard Jarvis organization endorsing her. Her opponent Steve Poizner asks voters if they want a governor who has the same position on illegal immigration as the president of Mexico. Poizner is weak on all kinds of other issues but Í'm voting for him anyway. The big-wig RINOs need to hear this message from the voters: STOP THE INVASION! As far as I'm concerned I'd just as soon have Moonbeam as governor instead of Whitman. They can talk about taxes, jobs, abortion and anything else but IMMIGRATION IS THE ONLY ISSUE THAT MATTERS. We all know that Republicans and Democrats were all in on the home mortgage scandal. They all should have been screaming bloody murder about that as far back as 1995. So what is the difference between them? Obamacare? If Republicans hadn't been so crooked and irresponsible on other issues they would have been able to stop Obamacare. Immigration is the issue that tells me whether a politician is crooked or not. If they hem and haw about it they are crooked. Period.

#5  We need to have a line of sight border enforcement. I would rather see my tax dollars go to border control than to all the services and programs given to illegals once here, anchor baby, schooling, prison, medical, housing etc.
I'm starting to get a little excited about our future again, citizens seem to be waking up.

Yup. If politicians favor open borders, amnesty, all kinds of benefits for illegals, and unrestricted illegal immigration, then the they are just pandering to the Hispanics and trolling for votes to stay in power or get re-elected.

Poll Shows Paul Still Leads in Kentucky
A couple of polls out today: Rand Paul appears to have weathered the one-sided political storm he stirred up in Kentucky, and Carly Fiorina has gained a solid lead over Tom Campbell in the California GOP primary fight.

In Kentucky's Senate race, a Courier-Journal and WHAS11 Bluegrass Poll shows Paul, a first-time candidate and son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, with a modest lead over Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway a week after his remarks raising questions about part of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The GOP Senate candidate holds a six-point lead, 51% to 45%, in the race to replace retiring Sen. Jim Bunning.

The telephone poll, conducted May 25-27 by SurveyUSA, has an error margin of 4.2 percentage points and is in line with a poll last week by the liberal Daily Kos conducted by Research 2000, which had Paul up by three points, 44%-41%

In California, a Los Angeles Times/USC poll less than two weeks ahead of the June 8 primary found that Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, now has a strong lead over former U.S. Rep. Campbell, 38% to 23%. State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore came in at 16%. A March poll had Campbell narrowly ahead.

Still, the latest poll showed that Campbell appears to have the best chance of defeating Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in November. In a Campbell-Boxer matchup, Campbell came out seven points ahead, but in a Fiorina-Boxer matchup, Boxer led by six points.

The poll offered good and bad news for Republican Meg Whitman, who is running for governor. Whitman, the former eBay CEO, leads her GOP primary opponent, Steve Poizner, a businessman and California's insurance commissioner, 53% to 29%.

The two have been fighting relentlessly in recent weeks, with Poizner disparaging Whitman's ties to Goldman Sachs and her stance on illegal immigration. Whitman has hit back with ads saying Poizner is a liberal who once supported abortion rights and supported tax increases.

The poll indicated the Whitman-Poizner battle appears to be taking a toll: Whitman, who once was running ahead of Democratic candidate Jerry Brown, now trails him 44%-38%. Brown, a former California governor and current Attorney General, has stepped up his campaign in recent weeks, hitting a number of college campuses.

The poll was conducted Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a Democratic polling firm, and American Viewpoint, a Republican firm. The error margin was 2.6 points for the overall sample and 3.6% for partial groups.

BP Seeks to Catch Most Oil as U.S. Exerts Spill Role
Editing and quoting the part I want to emphasize
The company encountered "too much flow" and the "top kill" using 30,000 barrels of mud was abandoned in favor of placing a cap over the well, Managing Director Robert Dudley said today on CNN's "State of the Union" program. "We believe we will get a majority of the oil and gas," Dudley said.

U.S. engineers, led by Energy Secretary Steven Chu, yesterday told BP of "grave concerns" about drilling mud, and the company halted the process, White House energy and climate adviser Carol Browner said on CBS's "Face the Nation" broadcast. "At the end of the day, the government tells BP what to do," Browner said on NBC's "Meet the Press."
So basically the main advisors to the government effort are the politicized "scientists" who have been wanting to shut down oil drilling in this country for a long long while... and we wonder why the spill's not being contained.
BP had put the chances of the top kill succeeding at 60 percent to 70 percent. The company made three attempts before giving up last night.

"We failed to wrestle this beast to the ground," Dudley said on "Fox News Sunday." Containment has "no certainty" of success, he said on Fox. "The percentages are better" than forcing mud into the well, he said.

Chu met BP engineers yesterday and told them "it was too dangerous" to continue forcing mud into the well, Browner said on CBS's "Face the Nation" broadcast. After the scientists met and "we told them of our very, very grave concerns," the company abandoned the process, Browner said.

BP didn't provide an estimate of when the flow might be stopped with the new method. Installing the cap should take about four to seven days, and after that the company will begin installing a new blowout preventer, a series of valves designed to cut off the flow from the well, Doug Suttles, chief operating officer of BP America Inc., said yesterday.
The rest of the piece is just politicans emoting.

#1  I am guessing that they want to cap the well and come back later to install another BOP in series with the one they mangled in their hurry to meet their Holy Drilling Schedule.

Are they planning on this being some kind of permanent fix? Is this cap supposed to completely seal off the well?

#3  The cap will have to be a temporary fix, and it won't seal the leak in, but hopefully channel it to where it can be safely captured without spilling into the gulf, at least until the relief wells can be drilled into the bore and the bore plugged with cement.

In the long term, any exploitation of that particular pocket of oil is going to have to involve a new undamaged wellbore separate from both the old damaged one and the relief wells. So if in the future anyone suddenly needs the oil there anyway, they're going to have to start from scratch in order to get a controllable well.

#4  This hasn't stopped the rest of the world from drilling (including the Gulf). Norway just started a new drill sight off their deep water shelf.

#10  "U.S. engineers, led by Energy Secretary Steven Chu, yesterday told BP of "grave concerns" about drilling mud, and the company halted the process, White House energy and climate adviser Carol Browner said on CBS's "Face the Nation" broadcast."

And just what the hell do you politicians know about oil drilling? NOTHING.

""At the end of the day, the government tells BP what to do," Browner said on NBC's "Meet the Press.""

So if you didn't own this mess before, you own it NOW, a**hole.

Where's Bambi? Why can't The Won™ magically stop the oil from flowing? Too busy "slowing the rise of the oceans"?

Idiots, the lot of 'em. >:-(

Science & Technology
Scientists Develop Possible Tularemia And Other Bioweapons Vaccine
A team of scientists from government, academia and private industry has developed a novel treatment that protects mice from infection with the bacterium that causes tularemia, a highly infectious disease of rodents, sometimes transmitted to people, and also known as rabbit fever.

In additional experiments with human immune cells, the treatment also demonstrated protection against three other types of disease-causing bacteria that, like the tularemia bacteria, occur naturally, can be highly virulent, and are considered possible agents of bioterrorism.

The experimental therapeutic works by stimulating the host immune system to destroy invading microbes. In contrast, antibiotics work by directly attacking invading bacteria, which often develop resistance to these medications. The therapeutic has the potential to enhance the action of antibiotics and provide an alternative to them.

“A therapeutic that protects against a wide array of bacterial pathogens would have enormous medical and public health implications for naturally occurring infections and potential agents of bioterrorism,' says Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health.

Sixty percent of mice in the study survived lethal pulmonary infection with virulent F. tularensis when treated with the therapeutic intravenously three days before the bacterial challenge.

No mice survived when given the bacterial components or the adjuvant alone, demonstrating the importance of combining both to maximize protection in mouse and human cells.

The treatment also showed broad usage, protecting human immune cells from bacteria that cause plague, melioidosis and brucellosis as well as tularemia.

Melioidosis is primarily a tropical disease spread to humans and animals through contaminated soil and water.

Brucellosis is a disease that primarily affects animals, including humans who come in contact with infected animals or animal products, such as contaminated milk.
