#1  Sounds like the neighbors complained, and the cops obliged, but found nothing.

Of course there's NO apologies,"We were just doing our duty". (And oping for action, Ummm nothing here)

As far as the neighbors, ((Unnamed, of course.) They've gotten off scot free.

And it'll happen again, and again, until the cops give up, SUE there's reason.

#3  Day late, dollar short, off topic, factually challenged... story of my life. Fair warning.

When first I came to Gotham
In the year two thousand nine
I used to like to cook a lot
And my meals were mighty fine
But the keyhole kops got nosey
And they soon gave me a swat
I was charged with being the owner
Of a stainless pressure pot

Oh next morning down by Chambers Street
I caused no little stir
The IRS were busy
And the nonesuch eggs concurred
Said the judge "I never could charge you
With the waving of the green,
But you can bet your ass I'll charge you
With the possession of this machine"

Now says I "Hey, Judgie-Wudgie,
If you'll give me half a chance,
I'll show you how me small machine
Can make the split-peas dance
It cooks away politely
Till you get an awful swat
As it softens up the legumes
In me stainless pressure pot"

Said the judge "This paper here, my man,
Is a super-secret writ
For you and all your Bill of Rights
I do not give a s---
But I think I'll let you off this once
Next time you vill be shot
If you're ever again caught cooking
With a stainless pressure pot"

Now this stylish urban kitchen
Is a less efficient place
I often burn me kidney beans
And dinner's often late
Sure I'd long ago have said me grace
If I had only got
A couple of pounds of musical fruit
And me stainless pressure pot

Africa North
Champ cancels Joint Military Exercise BRIGHT STAR.
[Wash Examiner] President Champ on Thursday broke his silence on the widespread violence in Egypt, canceling a joint military exercise planned with the longtime U.S. ally next month. However, the president did not outline any efforts to cut off aid to the Egyptian government in the wake of more than 500 deaths in the streets of Cairo.

"Our traditional cooperation cannot continue as usual while civilians are being killed in the streets," Obama said from his vacation retreat on Martha's Vineyard, announcing the cancellation of the military exercise.
Perhaps he'll be cutting off federal financial support to Chicago soon.
The president added that U.S. officials were reviewing possible further steps but stopped short of linking $1.3 billion in annual U.S. aid to the violence in Egypt. The White House is facing pressure to halt financial support for the Egyptian government as long as the bloodshed there continues.
Live fire exercises generally take priority over training events.

U.N. Says Central African Republic Poses 'Serious Threat'
[An Nahar] The U.N. Security Council warned Wednesday that turmoil in the Central African Republic poses a "serious threat" to the country and the region, and urged new measures to restore stability.

A unanimous declaration of the 15 council members did not specify what these new options could be, but a recent report by U.N. Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
recommended sanctions against officials from the Seleka coalition suspected of committing atrocities.

According to U.N. Special Representative Babacar Gaye, the threat of sanctions is a form of pressure to improve the human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
situation in the Central African Republic.

The Central African Republic has been sliding into chaos since Seleka rebels took over in March, with reports of executions, looting and epidemics.

U.N. Calls for $98 Million in Emergency Aid for N. Korea
[An Nahar] The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
is in urgent need of $98 million to finance emergency aid for the people of North Korea, the U.N. coordinator for the impoverished country said Thursday.

Of the $150 million needed to maintain food, health and sanitation programs by five U.N. agencies in the country for 2013, $98 million is still needed, the world body said.

"External assistance continues to play a vital role in safeguarding the lives of millions," U.N. resident coordinator Ghulam Isaczai said in a statement.

North Korea faces chronic food shortages and suffered from famine in the mid-1990s that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths.

"Without sustained humanitarian support, the gains made the past 10 years in improving food security and the overall health and nutrition of the most vulnerable" could be reversed, Isaczai said.

International aid, particularly from the United States and South Korea, has dried up in recent years amid tension over Pyongyang's nuclear program.

Nearly 2.4 million North Koreans need regular food assistance and 28 percent of children under five suffer chronic malnutrition.

"While the overall humanitarian situation has improved slightly over the last 12 months, the structural causes of people's vulnerability persist," Isaczai said.

India-Pakistan
Police in Stand-Off with Armed Lunatic in Islamabad
There are lunatics everywhere, it seems.
[An Nahar] Police in Islamabad are locked in a stand-off with a man armed with two automatic guns who was randomly firing in the air in the Pak capital Thursday.

The gunman, who had been travelling in a car with a woman and two young children, was stopped for a traffic violation, police said.

He then began to fire into the air in the busy commercial Jinnah Avenue neighborhood -- which is a high-security area as the road leads to the presidency and parliament house.

An Agence La Belle France Presse photographer at the scene said the man in his 50s was holding a submachine gun and a Kalashnikov in each hand and officers were negotiating with both him and the woman, reported to be his wife, to convince the gunman to lay down his weapons.

State-run Pakistain television PTV said the man, identified as Sikandar from central Punjab province, had refused to put down the weapons even after a police brass hat talked to the him several times.

The stand-off, which began at 5.30pm (1230 GMT) was still continuing more than five hours later with the man, woman and children sitting in the car.

The area has been evacuated with markets and shops shut down, and the road where the black Toyota Corolla car is parked has been blocked by police, who have surrounded the gunman.

Police said the motives of the man were unknown but he is demanding a safe passage and protection for his family.

#2  It's over: "As public impatience with the situation grew, Zamarud Khan, a former lawmaker and politician from the Pakistan Peoples Party, walked up to the couple apparently to try to negotiate with them.

Mr. Khan, a tall, heavyset man, leaned down to shake hands with the children as Mr. Sikandar stood nearby, his guns pointing toward the ground. All of a sudden, Mr. Khan lunged at the gunman, catching him off guard, but he managed to free himself from the grip of his would-be captor, who slipped on the asphalt.

At that point, police sharpshooters opened fire, narrowly missing Mr. Khan. As he and Mr. Mr. Sikandar’s family ran for cover, the police shot Mr. Sikandar in the leg and chest. He fell to the ground and within seconds, was surrounded by the police. Two officers were also wounded in the shootout, officials said.

Mr. Sikandar was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Islamabad, where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition, said Waseem Khawaja, a hospital spokesman.

Talking with reporters later, Mr. Khan, who was given a hero’s ovation by the bystanders and other politicians, said he had grown exasperated at one man holding the capital hostage and tarnishing Pakistan’s image.

“I had planned that either I will sacrifice my life or catch this man,” he said."

Spoon in underwear saving girls from forced marriage
As Britain puts airport staff on alert to spot potential victims of forced marriage, one campaigning group says the trick of putting a spoon in their underwear has saved some youngsters from a forced union in their South Asian ancestral homelands.
The word 'muslim' doesn't appear in article, neither does the word 'islam' but since its from Al Arabiya and they use the word 'ramadan' I think we can get a hint
The concealed spoon sets off the metal detector at the airport in Britain and the teenagers can be taken away from their parents to be searched -- a last chance to escape a largely hidden practice wrecking the lives of unknown thousands of British youths.
Clever, simple, and effective. Good for them.

20,000 Palestinians Working In Settlements, Survey Finds
[Jpost] Survey finds comparatively high unemployment rate in the West Bank and Gazoo Strip; rates higher for men than women.

Unemployment in the West Bank and the Gazoo Strip remains relatively high, according to a survey published by the Paleostinian Central Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.

The survey also showed an increase in the number of Paleostinians working in Israel and settlements.

The survey also found that the number of Paleostinians employed in Israel and settlements increased from 93,000 in the first quarter of this year to 96,000 in the second quarter.
The survey showed that the unemployment rate in the Gazoo Strip was 27.9 percent compared with 16.8% in the West Bank in the second quarter of 2013.

In both areas, the unemployment rate for women was 33.6% and 17.6% for men, the survey showed.

The public sector employed 22.5% of those in employment: 36.2% in the Gazoo Strip and 16.4% in the West Bank.

According to the survey, the average daily wage for employees in the West Bank stood at NIS 88.6 compared with NIS 63.2 in the Gazoo Strip.

The survey found that Paleostinians working in Israel and the settlements are paid more than twice the salary than what they receive from Paleostinian employers.
The survey also found that the number of Paleostinians employed in Israel and settlements increased from 93,000 in the first quarter of this year to 96,000 in the second quarter.

Of these, almost half of the Paleostinians had a work permit, while 34,000 worked without a permit.

The number of Paleostinian workers employed in settlements increased from 16,000 in the first quarter of this year to 20,000 in the second quarter.

Most of the Paleostinians employed in Israel and the settlements work in the construction sector, according to the survey.

Norway to run giant gas compressor on ocean bottom, enviros complain
A structure the size of a soccer pitch has been sent plunging to the bottom of the ocean 125 miles off Norway.

It will house a giant compressor claimed to be the world’s biggest offshore machine.

The Statoil equipment has been designed to pump some $30bn worth of gas from a depleted gas field.

It’s a technological leap for Statoil to place the compressor on the sea bed instead of on a typical platform perched above the waves.

This megaproject is a gamble. Statoil say for the same price as a compressor on a platform - $2bn - they can retrieve more gas using 30-50% less energy with a compressor on the sea floor, nearer to the gas deposit.

But environmentalists say as a state-owned enterprise, Statoil should concentrate on saving carbon emissions rather than seeking more hydrocarbons.

There appears little international will to force carbon capture into the mainstream and the technology is years behind schedule.

Frank Ellingsen directs the experimental Mongstat technology centre where a consortium of firms led by Statoil is testing two types of carbon capture equipment on two types of exhaust.

One of Frank’s colleagues at the technology centre put it in a nutshell: “There’s a clear commercial logic to the underwater compressor,” he told me. “We can make tens of billions of dollars."

“We’re an oil and gas company – of course people are excited by a massive operation like that on the sea bed. Do you see that level of excitement about capturing the CO2 that’s emitted? Of course you don’t.”

Bully in a skirt charged with two felonies
Blues/soul singer Lester Chambers dedicated a song in a live set to the late Trayvon Martin and then sang a heart felt rendition of his hit "People Get Ready" only to be attacked by a female bully for his efforts:

From TFA:

The woman who brazenly attacked funkadellic soul music legend Lester Chambers on-stage during his July performance at Hayward Russell City Blues Festival has officially been charged with felonies, including Assault by Means Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury and Elder Abuse, according to the Hayward and Alameda County's District Attorney's office.

The 73 year old former member of The Chambers Brothers and the singer of influential hits, "People Get Ready", "Uptown", "I Can't Turn You Loose", and many more, was just revitalizing his career before allegedly being assaulted in front of a crowd of hundreds by 43-year-old Dinalynn Andrews-Potter on-stage after he dedicated "People Get Ready" to Trayvon Martin while the jury was in deliberations.

Just a day after his attack, the acclaimed singer spoke with American Blues Scene, and true to a decades-long career professing peace, continued to have nothing but love in his heart -- though it was clear the attack would have a lasting impact on him as he talked about his feelings of not wanting to perform any more after the attack, and the nightmares he's always had about things going wrong on stage, though he's quick to add that this is one nightmare he never expected -- but is now haunted by.

#2  You know I have looked deep into my heart concerning Trayvon and after long consideration I have to admit there is absolutely nothing there.
Bye, Trayvon.

And people singing weepy songs about Trayvon, hey, I have even forgotten the words to Kumbaya...and I never was much good at humming.

Admit it, you don't miss Trayvon either. Be hoinest.
Posted by: Threater Flusoper9823 || 08/16/2013 6:52 Comments || Top||

#3  I never said Trayvon didn't have it coming. He was drug addled, ignorant, violent young man who made a series of bad decisions that ended his life. He was going to die young, in a gang related crime of some kind. Zimmerman got to him first.

That does not mean an artist, an elderly man whose music and political views were steeped in a long forgotten albeit fantastical environment of peace and love, cannot express his personal sorrow at the loss of a human life through art or song, nor does it means that a fan of the blues cannot express the sorrow that a young man, Trayvon, was led down a road that ended with his early death.

I think that Lester Chambers understood that, but if he didn't, it seems to me the only way he could deal with that was to dedicate the song to Trayvon Martin. I won't fault him for that.

#4  This site has more info:

Chambers and his family had asked that Andrews-Potter be charged with a hate crime, but authorities said Andrews-Potter's motives were unclear and she might not even have been in a position to hear Chambers' dedication of the song.

Andrews-Potter told police she had a stress disorder and that a repetitive part of the song caused her to snap. It wasn't clear if she had hired an attorney.

"It is a hate crime. There's no other reason for it," Chambers said. "She had hate in her face like a demon. Oh, God, it was ugly."

#5  Alcohol was involved.

A lot of his fans are saying the attacker was a tea party type, ignoring she was apparently drunk at the time.

The demands for a hate crime charge owe more to the fact that Chambers has no health insurance, and is out of pocket his medical bills.

What makes the demand silly is that the attacker is probably indigent, with not much in the way of resources.

#5  Threater Flusoper9823: ....like TW said...., although I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that your statement was more good-natured inter-service rivalry than anything else....

#7  And now we have 'Thought Police'.

Disagreeing with homosexual marriage is not discrimination. - Neither is saying you disagree.

It may be against the policy - but it is not discrimination.

Now refusing something based on this disagreement might be discrimination.

#9  It doesn't matter how the people in the states vote in any kind of a referendum. The people, the voters, have no standing in the Supreme Court. They're just the people, doncha know. They have no standing.

#11  Question: "Sgt. Monk, I need to know if you can, as my first sergeant, if you can see discrimination if somebody says that they don't agree with homosexual marriage"

Answer: "Just as much as there is if somebody says says that they don't agree with heterosexual marriage'"
