Monday was Chicago's worst day in more than a decade for homicides, 9 people fatally shot
[WAPO] Michael Lucas, 61, was sitting on his front stoop in Chicago’s Burnside neighborhood, watching his 3-year-old great-nephew play in the afternoon sun, when without warning two men ran toward the house and opened fire on him.

One shot struck Lucas. As the men advanced up the sidewalk, they pushed Lucas’s great-nephew out of the way and shot Lucas three more times, family members said. The attackers fled in a red SUV, and Lucas died on the stoop from gunshot wounds to the neck and head.

Lucas was one of 19 people shot on Monday -- nine of them fatally -- in what the Chicago Tribune has called the city’s deadliest day in more than a decade.

Chicago has experienced a surge in violence in the past year, much of it concentrated on the city’s South Side, where Lucas lived. A staggering 2,500 people have been shot in the city since the beginning of the year, more than in any year at this point since the 1990s. There have been at least 426 homicides in 2016, far more than in New York, which has three times Chicago’s population.

Monday marked the most homicides Chicago has seen in a single day since July 5, 2003, when 10 people were killed, according to the Tribune.

#1  Wait a minute.

These were cops shooting innocent blacks, right?
I mean civilians aren't allowed to have guns in Chicago, right?

How could this happen?

Did murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich leak 20,000 party emails ?
[The Mail] Wikileaks is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the death of a Democratic National Committee staffer, reigniting rumors he fed the organization thousands of party emails.

Seth Conrad Rich, 27, was gunned down in the affluent Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington D.C. last month while he was on the phone to his girlfriend.

Wikileaks' announcement Tuesday has added fuel to the flames of conspiracy theories claiming Rich leaked the 20,000 DNC emails that were released at the start of the party's convention.

Rich's body was found covered in bruises on the 2100 block of Flagler Place NW, but he still had his watch, cell phone and wallet on him. So far, police have uncovered no clues to help solve his murder despite offering a $25,000 reward.

D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier said previously that Rich may have been killed in an attempted robbery, but his family insist nothing was taken from him. The trail seems to have gone cold following his death on July 10.

A police report seen by DailyMail.com also states the circumstances surrounding Rich's homicide are 'unknown'. The mystery has sparked a flurry of theories posted online, including claims he leaked DNC emails or that he was on his way to speak to the FBI when he was shot.

Reddit user The_Donald also constructed a timeline that links Rich to the Clintons, as pointed out by Heat Street.

WikiLeaks offers $20,000 for information about killing of DNC staffer
[Wash Times] WikiLeaks announced Tuesday it will provide a $20,000 reward for information that helps police solve the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old D.C. man who worked for the Democratic National Committee.

In an announcement made on Twitter, the organization known for publishing secret information offered the reward in exchange for information leading to the conviction of the person who killed Seth Conrad Rich.

Rich was fatally shot in the early morning hours of July 10 while walking to his Bloomingdale apartment in Northwest D.C.

Metropolitan Police Department officials said Rich was shot multiple times and while investigators have not established a motive in the case, they were looking into the possibility that his death could have been related to several recent robberies in the area.

"We are looking into some robberies that have occurred in that area and we will match the lookouts to see if that has anything to do with this murder," acting Capt. Anthony Haythe said at a press conference the day after Rich’s death.

Baltimore police routinely violated rights: U.S. Justice Department
[Reuters] The Baltimore Police Department has routinely violated the constitutional rights of residents, according to a U.S. Justice Department investigation stemming from the death of black detainee Freddie Gray last year.

The Justice Department probe, which will be officially released at a news conference in Baltimore on Wednesday morning, was launched shortly after Gray's death in April 2015.

Police had arrested Gray, 25, for fleeing unprovoked in a high-crime area. He suffered a neck injury in a police wagon while shackled and handcuffed, and died a week later.

The incident triggered rioting and protests in Baltimore, a majority-black city of about 620,000 people. It fueled a national debate on police tactics and stoked the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Justice Department's 163-page report found that the Baltimore Police Department has routinely made unconstitutional stops, searches and arrests, and these illegal practices have disproportionately affected the city's black residents.

Police have also engaged in a pattern of using excessive force and retaliated against people engaging in constitutionally protected expression, the investigation found.

"This pattern or practice is driven by systemic deficiencies in BPD's policies, training, supervision, and accountability structures that fail to equip officers with the tools they need to police effectively and within the bounds of the federal law," the report said.

A spokesman for the Baltimore Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Six officers were charged in Gray's death, but four trials ended without a conviction. Prosecutors dropped the remaining charges last month.
Nothing at all to do with acquittals and dropped charges of the officers involved in the Freddie Gray case, nothing at all. Why do you ask ?

Solar physicist sees global cooling ahead
Via the GWPF: Recent research by Professor Valentina Zharkova (Northumbria University) and colleagues has shed new light on the inner workings of the Sun. If correct, this new discovery means that future solar cycles and variations in the Sun’s activity can be predicted more accurately.

The research suggests that the next three solar cycles will see solar activity reduce significantly into the middle of the century, producing conditions similar to those last seen in the 1600s - during the Maunder Minimum. This may have implications for temperatures here on Earth. Future solar cycles will serve as a test of the astrophysicists' work, but some climate scientists have not welcomed the research and even tried to suppress the new findings.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Putin and the Persians Plan to Compete with Suez Canal
Russia and Iran agreed to strengthen transport connections, including a potential railway link through Azerbaijan that would aim to grab a share of the cargo now being shipped through the Suez Canal.
Always got something cooking, Putin does.
The only country bordering both Russia and Iran, Azerbaijan is seeking to position itself as a major transportation hub. The former Soviet Union’s third-largest crude producer is using oil revenue to build the Caspian region’s biggest seaport 70 kilometers (44 miles) south of the capital. It’s also funding the construction of a railway link that will connect central Asia with Europe via Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
The Russian used a 5'-0" track gage to discourage invasions. Will the Azeri be as clever?
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, discussed the plan during a rare joint visit to Azerbaijan on Monday. The fight against terrorism and maritime boundaries in the Caspian Sea were also among the topics of discussion, according to a statement distributed to journalists in the Azeri capital, Baku.
Boundaries of the Caspian Sea? I wonder what Putin has up his sleeve?
"If the rail link to Iran is built, it can take some share of the cargo that’s being transported via Suez," Russian Transport minister Maxim Sokolov said in an interview. Plans for the railroad may be completed next year, he said.
Then somebody will have to fund it. Maybe the Clinton Foundation?

Vietnam moves new rocket launchers into disputed S.China Sea
[Reuters] Vietnam has discreetly fortified several of its islands in the disputed South China Sea with new mobile rocket launchers capable of striking China's runways and military installations across the vital trade route, according to Western officials.

Diplomats and military officers told Reuters that intelligence shows Hanoi has shipped the launchers from the Vietnamese mainland into position on five bases in the Spratly islands in recent months, a move likely to raise tensions with Beijing.

The launchers have been hidden from aerial surveillance and they have yet to be armed, but could be made operational with rocket artillery rounds within two or three days, according to the three sources.

Vietnam's Foreign Ministry said the information was "inaccurate", without elaborating.

Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh, told Reuters in Singapore in June that Hanoi had no such launchers or weapons ready in the Spratlys but reserved the right to take any such measures.

"It is within our legitimate right to self-defense to move any of our weapons to any area at any time within our sovereign territory," he said.

The move is designed to counter China's build-up on its seven reclaimed islands in the Spratlys archipelago. Vietnam's military strategists fear the building runways, radars and other military installations on those holdings have left Vietnam's southern and island defenses increasingly vulnerable.

Military analysts say it is the most significant defensive move Vietnam has made on its holdings in the South China Sea in decades.
