Afghanistan
8-year-old girl gang-raped, brutally killed in Uruzgan province of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A maiden was gang-raped and brutally killed by unknown gunnies in southern Uruzgan province of Afghanistan, the local officials said Sunday.

The incident took place in the vicinity of Gezab district, involving several gunnies, repeated raping the 8-year-old victim and hanging her to death.

The district police chief Lalai Achekzai confirmed the girl was gang-raped by a group of individuals in Dara-e-Syedan area of Gezab district.

He said it is yet not clear who were involved in the rape of the minor girl and her brutal murder.

Achekzai further added that an investigation is underway in this regard and more information will be released later.

This comes as rape incidents involving armed individuals against the minor children are on the rise in the remote parts of the country amid rampant violence against the women.

Africa Subsaharan
Nigerian Noble Savages lambasted by Pope Francis
[Breitbart] In what is perhaps the most strongly worded address of the Francis pontificate, the Pope blasted a group of Nigerian priests who have rejected the papal appointment of their bishop to the diocese of Ahiara, comparing them to the "murderous tenants" spoken of by Jesus in the gospel.

The Pope goes on to describe the priests’ offense against the Church as a "mortal sin," demanding that each one write a personal letter of apology manifesting "total obedience to the Pope."

This act of rebellion goes beyond "tribalism," Francis said, and is rather "an attempted taking of the vineyard of the Lord."

The Ahiara diocese has been embroiled in controversy ever since 2012, when Pope Benedict XVI appointed Peter Okpaleke as its bishop, an appointment that was reportedly opposed by "lay people and priests of the diocese."

Members of the local church have demanded a bishop from the Mbaise region, like their former bishop, the late Victor Adibe Chikwe, who came from Mbaise and was accepted as a "son of the soil."

DR Congo: 11 dead and 900 escape in jail attack
[Al Jazeera] Eleven people were killed and more than 900 inmates have escaped after person or persons unknown attacked a jail in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
's restive east, an official said.

"The Kangwayi prison in Beni was attacked at 3:30 pm by assailants whose identity is not yet known," Julien Paluku, governor of North Kivu province, told news hounds on Sunday.

"In the exchange of fire between security forces and the attackers, authorities have [counted] 11 dead, including eight members of the security forces," AFP news agency quoted Paluku as saying.

"For the moment, out of 966 prisoners, there are only 30 left in the prison."

The Beni area and the neighbouring town of Butembo had been put under curfew from 6:30 pm, according to Paluku.

"Only coppers and soldiers should be out from this time," he said.

Puerto Rico Votes For U.S. Statehood
PR has three political camps: Statehood camp. Nationhood camp. Do nothing and continue to suck off of the U.S. taxpayer camp. Everyone in PR is a member of one of these camps.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- A large majority of voters in Puerto Rico supported U.S. statehood for their island in a referendum on Sunday, according to partial results, but a low turnout and a boycott by several opposition parties called into question the validity of the non-binding vote.

More than 480,000 votes were cast for statehood, more than 7,500 for free association/independence and more than 6,500 for independence, with roughly half of polling centers reporting. The participation rate was nearly 23 percent with roughly 2.26 million registered voters.
U.S. Congress Has The Final Say:
U.S. Congress has final say on any changes to the U.S. territory's political status, regardless of the referendum's final outcome. And three Puerto Rican political parties that favor other options than statehood boycotted the vote, which took place amid an economic crisis that has triggered an exodus of islanders to the U.S. mainland.
